It began with one post on Oprah Winfrey’s popular website Oprah.com. A of Hillary Clinton’s supporter blowing off steam following Barack Obama’s upset victory over Hillary in the Iowa Caucuses, criticized Oprah for backing Obama over Clinton.
“I cannot believe that women all over this country are not up in arms over Oprah’s backing of Obama,” Hillary’s campaign supporter wrote. “For the first time in history we actually have a shot at putting a woman in the White House and Oprah backs the black MAN. She’s choosing her race over her gender.” That post prompted hundreds of abusive comments from angry white women who consider Oprah a traitor for turning against another white woman.
Well, welcome to the club ladies. For the first time in Oprah’s history she puts her own race over YOU and the black community is rejoicing! We will never forget the scenes from Forsyth County, Georgia 18 years ago of Oprah hugging and kissing racist whites who had earlier hurled racial epithets and stones at our black men.
Oprah’s popularity took a hit in the black community but she continued to focus on issues that were relevant to her white female audience. Her predominantly white female audience made Oprah a billionaire - and she returned the favor many times over. Instead of filling her audience with needy minority families when she gave away millions of dollars worth of her favorite things, the recipients were mostly affluent white women who afford their own favorite things.
Oprah is widely credited with helping Obama in Iowa. But Oprah, dubbed the Queen of All Media, has not campaigned for him since. While Obama’s aides suggest Oprah may return to the campaign trail, her critics believe she is running scared. Isn’t it ironic that the same women who put Oprah in power are now denying her right to support the candidate she believes in?

Interesting, especially when political analysts felt that her support of Obama would steer white women to vote for Barack instead of Hillary. Hillary mentioned on Tyra Banks last Friday that Maya Angelou supports her.
Every point made in this post is SO TRUE. She’s made her money…and I am quite sure she thought about her audience base, before publicly supporting Obama. But she really does not need their approval anymore.
Oprah is considered to be the MODERN DAY MAMMY OF AMERICA. Of course those WW’s will be mad at her. What do you expect?
I agree with 2Unruly. She doesn’t need their support anymore. She has a ton of money and has other investments. They always feel like they have to have you right under their thumbs. F— them.
Well I’m pretty sure Oprah doesn’t care, she counting her billions or how much money she has.
And they’re voting for Hillary strictly because she’s a woman. Because it damn sure ain’t because she’s qualified.
Black people can be so ignorant sometimes, the same people who watch Maury and Jerry Springer faithfully are always complaining about Oprah. Get a clue!

And why shouldn’t she choose her race first? If she was some ordinary woman on the street, she would be a victim of RACIAL profiling not GENDER profiling. As Black people, we’re always black first. I still haven’t made a decision on who I’m going to vote for, but I can appreciate a woman of Oprah’s calibur being true to her convictions regardless of the fact that white woman are the people who are her main supporters.
O was destined to be black BEFORE her parents knew her gender. Think about it………………………
I continuously fail to understand why black people think Oprah caters to white women. Is it because she talks about issues black people deem unimportant like education, and the benefits of taking care of yourself physically, emotionally, and financially? We call Oprah a sellout but say nothing about Maury, who continues to exploit our community. Oprah’s responsible for many of the movies based on books authored by black women or movies chronicling our history. And guess what, overwhelming, we don’t go see those movies, take the Great Debaters for example. And why should Oprah fill her audience with low income families who aren’t instilling into their children the importance of education? They are looking for a handout, not a hand up. Oprah stated when she opened her school in South Africa that those kids walk to school and are happy to receive a book. You give most children a book here and you might get it thrown back at you.

I’m with you. Oprah is a credit to our race and some of us still come up with reasons to attack her. I’m pray she takes it with a grain of salt.

I personally can understand and agree with a lot of what you are saying. But, if you give a black child a book and he/she throws it back to you, that means that, that child has been spoiled in this country. But that’s not just black kids- that’s white kids, native american kids, etc. I mean look at the whole situation. Oprah is on one of the most popular networks around. These same advertisers that are supporting her show, are the same one’s spoiling your kids. Look at the advertisements!!!! They promote
X-Boxes, Playstations, WII’s, etc. So that’s not fair to generalize black children. I’m sure OTHER kids would throw books right back at you as well. Those kids in South Africa, don’t have much over there to begin with, so of course they won’t take Oprah’s school for granted! Americanize that part of South Africa, spoil those kids with video games, and iPods and such (like they do here in America) and see how much they’ll appreciate education after that.
Oprah knows this.

I agree w/you wholeheartedly on this one. This is going to be a tough race based on the fact that everything we’ve wanted for years is happening at one time. I would love to see a woman in the white house I’d also like to see a black man in there too. I just hope that the most qualified candidate is chosen based on what they can do and not based on their race or gender.

Well Tamel, I think that a lot of our people might think that about Oprah by taking a look at her audience……they are mostly white women…the majority of guests on her shows…white…and, more than likely, none of her audience is from the Chicago area…..then there is her view on hip hop….
I personally don’t consider Oprah a sellout…..I think it’s just that people….yeah they mostly white…find her to be influential in their lives.
Now as far as Maury goes…LOL LOL…..he ain’t got no gun to these women’s heads, making them call him to find out which of the 9 dudes they slept with is the baby’s daddy…..we doin it to ourselves….
