Marion Jones gets 6 months

It was a sad spectacle in a White Plains, NY courtroom today as disgraced track star Marion Jones tearfully pleaded with a judge not to separate her from her two sons. But the judge sentenced the 31-year-old to 6 months in prison for lying about her steroid use and a check fraud scheme.

“I absolutely realize the gravity of the offenses I’ve committed. I want to apologize,” Jones told the court as she began to cry, according to ABC News. “I plead with you,” she said, to not separate “me from my boys even for a short while.”

Jones’ attorneys also pleaded for leniency, but U.S. District Judge Kenneth Karas handed down the sentence plus two years probation during which Jones will be required to perform 800 hours of community service.

Damn thats sad, I didn’t even know anything about the check fraud!! I just thought this whole thing was about her using steroids, & she pleaded not to be seperated from her kids thats the worst part. I guess in 08 they aren’t even playing anymore they are gonna start making examples outta people just like they did Lil Kim, Remy Ma better wise up!!

I feel sorry for her family & what they have to endure [from the public] during this time. I’m sure everyone will have opinions about her situation, but we’re in no position to judge. I hope she has a strong support system to help her thru this…

Yet a white woman who is an employed educator…Whom we should feel safe and secure having our children around gets no time in jail because she’s too pretty.lol. A matter of opinion of course, I didn’t find her that attractive. But hey she only committed statutory rape. So what if she violated her parole and still did no jail time! She’s pretty dammit.lol. Oh well too bad so sad for Marion. Cheaters bring a dark cloud over the world of sports. She deserves to be punished.

oh and ms peaches…. the whole case really had very little to do with steroids. she confessed because she had this whole check fraud thing over her head and wanted some leniency. The govt really wants her coach Trevor Graham, so they’re gettin everybody thats associated with him.

That’s sad. You do a crime I do think you should do the time. She won’t do the whole 6 months though. She’ll be home before the Summer.

I’m over the whole issue with Steroids. Maybe I don’t get it, because whether you take medications or not, your STILL a good athlete!

YOU can still run fast, u can still throw a fast ball and you can still make a powerful tackle.

Can somebody please explain WHY steriods are so BAD other than they endanger YOUR health…. Hell, if you want to risk your life than that’s on you, but why does the Sports Franchise consider it a CRIME???

Her ex had a serious check writing scheme going on and I guess she benefitted from it so she has to pay like the rest of the people involved.

Athletes take steroids to enhance their performance. They would not be as good without them. Barry Bonds was at the end of his career and took steroids to get it back in his 40s. So the answer would be no they don’t perform as well without the steroids and steroid abusers have an advantage over their non steroid using peers.

Sports franchises don’t consider steroids a “crime”. You don’t go to jail for using steroids, although you can go to jail for SELLING them. Because it is against the team/sport rules, you can get suspended from the team/sport. Marion Jones isn’t going to jail for TAKING steroids, she is being jailed for LYING TO A FEDERAL GRAND JURY (and for the check fraud scam). Sports teams prohibit steroids because 1. They are dangerous and when a team invests lots of $$$ in an athlete, they don’t want him/her dropping dead (like track star Flo Jo), and 2. They give players unfair, artificial advantages. Should the best player be the one with the best chemist? If so, the Heisman/MVP/All-Star should go to the scientist that “created” the biggest, strongest player.

^^correct al natural I couldn’t have said it better.it’s unfortuante she has to be separated from her children but i doubt strongly that 6 mos will be served..an example has to be made but she isn’t a threat..u’ll hear about her again more sooner than later

She needs to use those 6 months a reference tool to her kids. Show them that she’s a woman of honor who owning up to her wrongdoings, and paying the price. Six months aint shit for lying and letting down so many people.

I can’t believe out of all the athletes to use steroids, she’s the one going to jail. So sad for her kids; especially the one she’s still nursing. MArion seems to have made a lot of bad choices- and all of them seem to go back to the questionable men she’s hooked up with.

It’s sad that she has to do jail time but she did committ a crime. I hope that she does get out for good behavior early.
