Photo of the Day: Beyoncé channels Wendy Williams and Eve
Staying true to form, Beyonce has not yet responded to criticism from Etta James who questioned the choice of Bee to play the legendary singer in a new biopic.
But we are questioning Bee’s choice in lacefront wigs. Beyoncé was spotted by the paps during an outing with her man Jay Z in NY last night. Beyoncé is said to be anxious to begin filming “Cadillac Records”, in which she plays Etta James.

I don’t see it as Miss James criticizing Beyonce. From what I ready she just felt that the actress isn’t much like she was. It’s not even made yet so it remains to be seen. AND I like that B doesn’t respond to criticism.
Beyonce is way too pretty to play Etta James. This is almost as funny as when Aretha Franklin wanted Halle Berry to play the role of her life.

@negrito and @mia: first of all please read more than blogs and watch video’s and black gossip magazines…watch public tv or the history channel…or try reading about the “chitlin circuit era”…I bet you don’t even know who Baby Washington was…but I can guarantee you know who beyonce is……Etta James is a true star..the era and music she represents is from the soul….she does not want someone is is a marketing barbie to play her she wanted a real woman to play her..personally Faith Evans -fullfigured-and who can actually sing the etta james ballads is a better fit…Also aretha can admire halle and give her a compliment..Queen latifah is a better fit for etta james and aretha—but all you guys can do is insult somebody because of their weight…maybe they didnt want to take steroids like maryj or timbaland…go read a book…and stay off myspace

Oh please…calm down!! No need to get so emotional. Thanks for the history lesson but I do know who the legendary Etta James is, and I’ve heard pretty much all of her songs. She was a very good soulartist in her prime with a great voice and she got plenty of great classic songs. I have to say that “Pushover” is her best song. Anyway, you obviously don’t like Beyonce for whatever reason could you please explain why?

*Etta James, the legendary soul singer to be portrayed by Beyonce in the upcoming film “Cadillac Records,” recently spoke about how pleased she is with the casting choice.
“It’s a privilege and an honor to have somebody like that girl. I don’t think she looks like me, but that’s all right. They can fix that up,” Etta told PageSix.com.
But moving beyond looks, James warns: “Oh my god, she’s going to have a hill to climb, because Etta James ain’t been no angel!”
For one, James says Beyonce will have to make some changes to her singing style.
“I have my own way of putting those songs over, and I was just wondering if Beyoncé could, and my son said, ‘They’re thinking about how she looks, but Mama, she can really sing.’”
“I kinda have a man’s voice. It’s a contralto, more bluesy, religious. I would really like to work with her on that,” the 70-year-old songstress adds.
Etta, who battled heroin addiction for many years, says, “I can tell Beyoncé some things; some of the things I might not tell her.
“I wasn’t as bougie as she is, she’s bourgeois. She knows how to be a lady, she’s like a model. I wasn’t like that… I smoked in the bathroom in school, I was kinda arrogant, so those are some of the things I would want to tell her.”
As previously reported, “Cadillac Records” will star Adrien Brody in the role of music exec Leonard Chess, as well as Cedric the Entertainer and Jeffrey Wright. Shooting is scheduled to start on March 10 in New Jersey, with two days on location in Mississippi.

I like her but I think she is stepping way out of her league by doing Etta. I think that role should go to a good actress like Tisha Campbell who kind of favors Etta in a way plus w/ her acting ability it would come across as real and not over the top. Also she can sing too! I think Beyonce is the wrong choice to do such a great singers life story. That’s just my two cents.

Ia Faith Evans would’ve been a much better choice for Etta James. Shoot I would’ve rather them worked magic and let J Hud take the damn roll. Beyonce’s singing ability is open for debate, personally I can’t get past the screaming to know if she is capable of actually singing. I do know for one thing everyone knows beyonce CAN’T act. So the movie is already shot to hell in my opinion.
On the wig, I don’t know who hates her telling her that thing was cute. She needs to check her team out!
P.S I think its trifling saying Beyonce is too pretty to pay Etta James. I think Etta james is an attractive woman especially in her youth. Disrespecting a legend just to big up B is tacky as hell. All in all, Beyonce being so damn beautiful is still up for debate. Some people including myself see Beyonce as an attractive woman, but no more attractive then some of the women who walk down the street. Sorry I don’t see the gates of heaven open when she hits my screen.
