R.I.P. Static Major

Noted producer Static Major, real name Stephen Garrett, passed away yesterday in a Louisville, KY hospital.

As a member of Playa, Static began his musical career under the tutelage of Jodeci’s DeVante Swing, and formed kinships with fellow members of DeVante’s Swing Mob such as Missy Elliott, Timbaland, and Ginuwine. No autopsy has been performed, but it is believed he died from a brain aneurysm.

Static’s most successful work was for Aaliyah, whose single “Try Again” from the 2000 film Romeo Must Die, rose to number 1 on the charts. In the mid-2000s, Static worked with R&B group Pretty Ricky, R&B singer Tank, and appeared on David Banner’s 2004 single “Crank It Up”.

Recently, Major Static collaborated with Lil’ Wayne on the single “I Got My.” Click image to listen to single.
