Erykah Badu and Janet Jackson neck & neck for #1

According to industry estimates: Erykah Badu and Janet Jackson are neck and neck for the #1 spot next week. Janet is expected to do 180k in sales while Erykah’s Amerykah is expected to push 160k - give or take 10k.
The amazing part of all this is Erykah contends for the top spot with virtually no promotion. Janet, on the other hand, has promoted the hell out of her 10th studio album Discipline.
Last night, Erykah threw herself an album release and birthday party in Chicago. Dave Chapelle, and Billy McNamara attended. And tonight, Janet makes a rare appearance on CNN’s Larry King Live where she plans to discuss her music and her love life. Frankly, we don’t understand what her love life has to do with selling albums. But, we’ll still tune in.
Larry King Live airs at 9 PM eastern time on CNN.

Erykah Badu aka APPLES is definitely THE TRUTH! New Amerykah is a great album and i cant wait for the other parts that are set to be released later this year!
I think people are thirsting for some real music with an original sound and some real lyrics…She has a fan base I mean we listen to Bee and Dem but in the end we want to hear some real music..I am not surprised. Jill Scott was just the first course now we get the second course in Erykah.
I love Erykah as well & was hoping she would be showed some love casue she did lack promotion but people know good music when they hear it!!
I looove Erykah Badu, but I am not feeling this new CD just yet. It’s very beat driven and her words aren’t the focus at all. Her CD sounds like an ode to J. Dilla or something. I will listen some more, but for now I’m really upset with this CD.
Finally some news about a classy lady. I am so proud for Erykah, she is one artist who makes music with a deep meaning. She is very talented and beautiful. Now, when are we going to get a tour?
Erykah and classy are in the same sentence. Wow, it is a new year.
I’m probably not buying either album, gas is about to be $4 in a minute, let me hold on to the little devalued dollars I have for now.
As much as I would love for Janet to do well, I have to say that she can’t do anything with Erykah. I haven’t heard either CD and I probably won’t be hearing Janet’s. But I wish her the best. It’s really time for Janet to sit down or find a new career path.

I can’t get any work done today, Erykah is so serious! I’m loving it. Haven’t heard Janet other than that one single.
Janet’s last two albums had first week sales of 381,000 (Damita Jo) and 297000 (20 y.o.). If her latest sells only 180,000 in it’s first week, it’s not a good trend.

The more I look at those pics of EB I see how different she is & I think thats what alot of folks like about her!! I mean look at the coat in the first pic & the glasses in the second only she can pull that off(LOL) she has an ol skool soul & I love it, she probaby wasn’t even trippin about the promoting of her CD cause she’s just doing what she loves!!
I haven’t heard Erykah’s full CD but I don’t need to. The 4 songs I heard are really good. That’s worth the price of the CD right there.

Erica is real! Gotta love her! She is the model for Tom Ford’s new perfume/cologne. That is really good look for her cause the camera loves her
never really been a fan of most of ehr music, i enjoy some of ehr singles but thats about it. i like the new single and the video is different and refreshing to see. i know she look a hot mess n those pics. she has a different style but at times they dnt work.
I have to say that I do not like New Amerykah AT ALL….I put the CD in looking for the woman I fell in love with years ago and I still haven’t found her. I am very disappointed at this CD, I’ll use it as a Coaster for my soda.
I knew Erikah would do well and really couldn’t call it between her and Janet initially, but after Janet’s media blitz I just don’t see Erikah messing with Janet’s first week sales. I started to pick up Erikah today, but because I had to pay full price for Janet and Mary and my daughter was eyeying the Barbie convertable Erikah had to stay on the shelf. I only liked 2 songs on her last CD so I’m weary to spend $15 on this one.

I am a fan of both, but I have been jonesing for Erykah for a minute. I have a love/hate relationship with alot of music today and Erykah is a breath of fresh air that would make me more forgiving of the b.s because of a few slips in the cracks..
I really haven’t been feeling Erykah for some time now…but I do think she stands a good chance of coming in @ #2. I mean if Jill Scott’s album can move 250k units in the first week I’m sure Erykah will have no problem

I purchased both CD’s and Janet’s is fiyah!!!! I love Erykah but this CD is not good at all. I thought she was going to come better. The tracks are mostly beats,mixes and talking. I only like two songs. Janet has really stepped her game up but I supported both ladies so good luck girls!
OK, I am a die heart Erykah fan. I was sitting on pins and needles awaiting her new release. I ripped off the plastic befor I even got out of the store. All of this just to get stuck in the a$$ with those pins and needles. Everyone was saying she is coming hard you will fall in-love with her all over again. NOT!!!!! I was hoping for an updated version of the old. Not what I got at all. Its alot of talking over heavy bass I could barely understand what the hell she was saying. Only two songs was the Erykah I remember and HONEY isn’t even on the CD. I’m so upset that I want my money back!!! Jill Scott and Emily King will remain heavy in rotation. It won’t prevent me from buying future stuff from, I just now know to go to FYE or one of the major book stores and listen first.
Erykah I will love you til’ the end of time but, just give us the ‘you’ back!!!!!!

@ #25 if you you’re a fan like you say you are then you would know that the Neo-Soul Erykah that you were hoping for was never what she wanted to be. She never claimed to be “neo-soul” that term was made up to categorize artists and profit off of it.
You must be stupid to think that Erykah will outsell Janet. I like Erykah and all but her new album is not that good. Janet on the other hand did an amazing job on Discipline. If you buy the album make sure you listen to the title track called Discipline which is track #20. That track alone crushes all the R&B competition. Just take a listen.
@ Abhor its not about the category of music its what I like and this new CD is not it for me. I listen to them all from 3 Doors Down to Curtis Mayfield to John Coltrane (my favorite jazz musician) to Faith Hill back to Erykah. I am an equal opportunity listener. I just don’t like this CD.

I had a WTF? moment when I listened to my Erykah CD, too.
Her “Worldwide Underground” in all it’s rawness was more put together than this record. I listened to it and it’s BAD. “Honey” which I bet wasn’t even supposed to be on the album, is like a Godsend, because the rest of the LP are tracks that have that “UNFINISHED” feeling to them.
It’s like she got high (and she mentions smoking trees in one of the songs…actually two) she got high and just let the loop/reel record. It’s TOO out there, beyond me. Hardly structured at all. Or it sounds that way to me. Still, I love her, but I’m not really feeling this 9.99 purchase, nor am I wholly feeling Janet’s album. There’s about 3/4 tracks that I like…the rest I can take it or leave it.
