Certain bloggers are going loony over this pic of Rihanna performing in the Bahamas over the weekend. One melanin-challenged blogger wrote, “Rihanna keeps it classy at the Atlantis Paradise Island last night, working her perfectly toned ass on stage during a sultry performance.”

Now y’all know Rihanna is one of my favorites in music right now, but in this case, “perfectly toned ass” is a stretch by anyone’s imagination.

Here in Atlanta we have strip clubs that cater to men who prefer mixed women with “perfectly toned” asses, so I can see why that particular blogger would write that. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that Rihanna is still the #1 star in the world. Assets or no assets.

So it makes perfect sense that black blogs showed this pic with titles like, “Where is Rihanna’s a$$?” while white sites might have titles like “Rihanna, the best buns in the business”. Rihanna is getting alot of attention, she always has more comments on every post. If people don’t like her don’t look at her. I just think this is all funny. To be honest, I don’t like Rihanna music, never brought any of her cd’s. I don’t like Beyonce never brought any of her cd’s. I don’t like half the artist out right now. I think the old school music has way more meaning, then the crap people put out now. But I think people need to lay off Rihanna. It’s okay for Beyonce to bounce around like a slut and people just thinks she is the best thing to happen. Keysia Cole attitude is ugly, put people glorify her. This speaks volumes in the way the world thinks. I am an E = everyone out is basically garbage. I may be telling my age but (who cares), but I think most of ‘us’ here came up when female entertainers had a package deal. They didn’t dress like sluts and could actually sing. How many of todays artist that we critize drop back to back albums FULL of songs? When you bought an album, you knew EVERY song. I expect more that 2 so-so jams for $16.99. I fullu agree with you – -Let’s fly back a few years to Anita Baker, Cherrelle, Tina Marie, uncrackish Whitney, Shade, I could go on. I can put in any tape (yep, I said it) and sing side A and B. Getting on stage borderline naked is not entertaining, you said yourself Beyonce has some slutish qualities about her-how is Rihanna any different? Maybe if Rihanna saw what people think of her image she will get a vocal coach (Roberta Flack is available) and do something besides twirl umbrellas all day.

By the way – we have to look at her, Sandra makes us

Rihanna isn’t different. But I think people need to give her a brake. All of them need vocal coaches. Beyonce sounds like she is crying all the time, Rihanna sings through her nose, Keysia Cole (flat out cant sing and is always hollering). Their are a few like Fantasia even though she will run a song through the roof, Jennifer Hudson(talk about over doing a song), but they can actually sing. Hey Hellava10, what happen to the time when people would just sing a song, and sing it with passion and sing it just right like Sade, Anita, the old Whitney, we don’t have that anymore. Everybody is so commerical now. I personally think music sucks right now, and that’s why sells are down. I did forget about Alicia she is good too. To be honest, I don’t even listen to the radio, or watch music video’s. There is nothing that just holds my attention.

The commercialization of music has nothing to do with record sales. Record sales are low because people are downloading instead of actually purchasing albums. If people are looking for good music you have to search instead of waiting to be force fed some good shit. BET, MTV, VH1 and other big companies are putting out whats HOT but not necessarily good…You want good music? Stop looking at mainstream and go for underground!

I agree with you to an extent. I think people don’t but cd’s anymore because of a combination of the two things bootleggers & no good music. I ain’t going to lie if the music is good enough. I will buy the cd and not get it bootleg. It’s nothing like having a classic cd that’s legit of some of your favorite artist. I mean look at Alicia Keys fans, they are still buying her album, that’s because she puts out quailty music. So people will buy quality. I don’t listen to mainstream, I stated that I don’t. I don’t really go for some on the underground either. I am a old school head. Sade, Anita, The O’jay’s, The Temptations, The Dells, Johnnie Taylor. I tend to take to that music more, and maybe that’s because that’s what I grew up listen to. I like some artist out there, like Talib Kweli, Common, Lela James, Angie Stone, Jill Scott, Erika Badu, but mostly I love old school.

I never said that commercialization had anything to do with record sales, I just said that everybody was commerical nowadays.
