As Kwame’s World Turns
Most of us who don’t live in Detroit first became aware of Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick’s legal troubles after his affair with his Chief of Staff was exposed in the Detroit Free Press. Like me, some of you probably don’t know the entire sordid soap opera that is Kwame Kilpatrick’s life.
So JBaker over at Parlourmagazine.com wrote a condensed time line of the events leading up to Kilpatrick’s eventual downfall.
- The Life & Times of Kwame Kilpatrick!
2002
- Kwame is elected mayor of Detroit to much acclaim and fanfare (we admit it, we loved him).
- After being elected mayor of Detroit, Kwame allegedly throws a party, with strippers, at his state-owned official residence, the Manoogian Mansion. According to former members of his Executive Protection Unit (EPU), his wife Carlita comes home to find Kwame with the strippers and attacks one of the girls.
- Kilpatrick is found out to have charged over $210,000 in credit card bills. What was he buying? Spa massages, Moët, etc. He ended up paying the city back $9,000.
2003
- Detroit Officer Harold C. Nelthrope contacts the internal affairs unit of the Detroit Police, about the party and other abuses committed by Kilpatricks’s EPU members.
- Kilpatrick denies all allegations and dismisses the party as a rumor. He went on to say that he does not have”‘lewd parties,” “I don’t whore around on my wife” and “I want people to understand that I would never disrespect my God, my wife or my children”.
- Nelthrope and Gary A. Brown, head of the internal affairs unit are fired. They allege they got the axe for their participation in Kilpatrick’s investigation. Then the pair sue the city of Detroit, in what is known as the Whistleblower Trial, eventually winning an $8.4 million settlement.
- Two additional officers come forth with claims of retaliation: Walt Harris and Alvin Bowman. Harris was a former EPU member who was identified as cooperating with the Manoogian investigation, which resulted in Harris suffering a smear campaign by Kilpatrick administration.
- Tamara “Strawberry” Greene, 27, an exotic dancer who claims to have been a performer at the Manoogian Mansion party is found dead after being shot 18 times. Witnesses describe it as a targeted hit. The bullets are found to have belonged to the same types of guns issued by the Detroit Police Department. Bowman, (listed above) who was working this case, was transferred out of the homicide unit after discovering these facts and attempting to connect the dots. The Greene family is currently suing the city of Detroit for about $150 million. READ MORE…

okay…i just read the entire post…also what’s posted on the other website. so he’s been using his power for years…and a ladies life was taken because of it. reminds me when eddie murphy was caught with that tranny and before the court date she ended up shot to death execution style. coincidence?? i think not. he deserves to be put under the d*mn jail.

if anyone is from detroit, how did a WHOLE PARTY just vanish into thin air? what was ultimately determined about the stripper shooting? this reminds me of the new orleans [police officer] shooting of a witness that d*mn near brought the whole police department down.
He also leased a Navigator for his wife and charged it to the city and has hired life long homies to high ranking city positions whether they were qualified for the job or not and granted other homies lucrative city contracts, including hardened criminals. Christine Beaty is one of his homies from high school and when she resigned he replaced her with yet another homie in the middle of this whole scandal without giving a damn how it looked. I don’t know if he was corrupt before the power, but he has been openly corrupt since taking office.

The tranny in the Eddie Murphy case was not shot. He died in an extremely bizarre accident. To my best recollection he somehow got locked out of his apartment with a bathrobe on and nothing else. He tried to scale the building to climb in his window and fell to his death. I might have some of the details wrong, but I’m pretty sure his death was the result of a fall from a building.
Ok,this is really like some kind of movie. WTF? I don’t think this man knows how serious this is right now. Then he had the nerve to try to play the victim–please. His wife’s heart is on a **** stained floor and his kids have to face shame and humiliation everyday. Meanwhile, he’s busted at least 100 nuts off his stick thin chief of staff. They’re only sorry now cause they got caught. Both of them truly deserve the lynching they’re going to get–and they WILL get it, believe me…lol! I just feel so bad for his wife and kids. God bless them all.

if his wife beat the stripper (therefore kicking off this whole mess) than i am not sorry for her either. she is supposed to be a first lady and she is fighting strippers? she also is complicit with covering it up by not admitting that the party happened. if that party really happened, both he and his wife are shady as h*ll.

I have never felt sorry for his wife. Kwame cheats openly and she seems cool with that. Not to mention she has conspired with him to steal city funds for her families benefit. I read yesterday that even during this whole fiasco they have continued to take luxury trips and the like. She is down with him on this whole thing.
This is far better than As the World Turns lol. Kwame is a kid from the hood that scammed his way into the good life. Every good thug has their day and now it is his turn. As far as the stripper I read somewhere that they had questioned the wife recently. I am not sure of the outcome.

Threats & intimidation made the party disappear. I know of many police officers who were at the party, and talked about it that night.
I find it interesting that, after investigating rumours of a ‘wild party at the mansion’ - Attorney General Mike Cox deemed the party ‘urban legend’. Yet, after Kwame’s 5-minute,tirade at the end of his State of the City address (which I’m sure was meant to whip Black Detroiters into the old ‘them vs. us’ frenzy) - Cox publicly stated “Kilpatrick is unfit to run the city”, and he should resign.

first of all..this story is soooo much deeper than the condensed version posted!! The party has been an urban legend since 2003 or so when it was alleged that it happened. When the DA went to investigate it, there was a total cover up…Kwames protection unit (aka DPD) claim that they knew nothing about it, Kwame denied it, and everyone that may have been involved! He concoluded the investigation without ever questioning his wife to find out if she even had a fight with the girl in the first place (very suspicious)
SO, when the 2 cops went on to investigate on their own, they were blocked at all angles…Kwame demanded that they cease the investigation, and that’s when they were fired (demoted)
Also, another very important part of the story just developed recently becuase after all these years…a former retired clerk and 10 year employee for the police dept. that is aboout 70yrs old or so, claims that she recalls the police report coming across her desk about the assault to the stripper Strawberry, however it has since disappeared into thin air…in addition, another police officer that worked for the police for over 20 years and was on Kwames protection unit came forth and said that the party DID happen, and that there were many more parties!
They will be testifying at the civil trial that the stripper Strawberry aka Tamara Greene’s son has filed against the City for something like $40 Million (can’t rem exact amount)..
As I mentioned in a previous post on this if you want to really know what is going on I recommend u go to freep.com…that is the best source becuase there is soooo much more going on with this case.
Also, Kwame and Beatty went to court yesterday and had a $75,000 bond, and their trial starts in June. The crazy thing is that he won’t resign, and is holding the CIty hostage…it’s sooo bad!!
What the hell….this is some crazy sh*t! This dude totally took this prestigious position and turned it into a BET reality show. How the hell are you an elected official carrying on like a damn RAPPER? Shooting strippers, f*cking h*es, stealing!!! This sh*t is embarrassing.

My friend works for the Detroit zoo, she said that Kwame shut the zoo down from the public, so that he can have a red carpet event for all of his homies including all of 20 strippers, my friend was so pissed because she had to serve drinks until the end of the party. His mom is a state representative that how come he had some type of head start into the mayor office. And while he was running for office he would go to the strips club and buy everybody drinks and to/or maniuplate the younger crowds. I couldnt believe that these Detroit residence especially black people fall for his Hustling ways. Bye the way my friend donot vote for this fool!
so after reading further into this situation i have come to a conclusion that Kwame Kilpatrick is the ghetto version of THE KING OF SCOTLAND minus the white doctor of course. Plus the KING had h*es but they were considered wives?

Just so much drama. Then you wonder why white folks and others probably think/say “can’t ever give a n199@ power, they pop Moet and get the strippers to hook the party up”. Are you serious?! I had hope with Kwame but he is just another man who got beside himself. No one is perfect but he got real sloppy like he can’t be touched…
Let’s just hope it doesn’t get uglier and they make an example out of him with that jail time. He better get to talking to the lawyers who helped Linday Lohan and the rest of Hollywood get away with their crap.

I remember that New Orleans case. The police Chief was Richard Pennington. He wasn’t playing. A lot of cops lost their jobs and went to jail over that murder. Pennington eventually became Chief of police in Atlanta.
I can’t believe this story!! How could so many people keep voting for this horrible, classless man??? This just makes black men in power look suspicious and bad. I couldn’t believe what I was reading! On another note, Cris’ wife is very attractive. The chick he cheated with..not so hot…
Love reading all the comments. I do feel bad for Kwame because I go to Detroit often and he did bring much more to the city. Yes his wrong doing did cost the city over 8.mill in hush money. He did bring lots of investers, into the city. Detroit even hosted the super bowl a few years ago. The only thing I feel the most pain about is the hushness of Tamara Green. I am so glad her son is suing the city. No amount of money will ever bring back his mom but justice needs to be served. Tamara’s son was on tv and he is I think 14 now and he is very handsome and well spoken and he deserves answers. And Kwame was not brought up in the hood he was born privilleged and thinks that he can get away with anything. I too can not believe that the good people of Detroit re elected this fool. Give a black man power and he does this. On the other hand white men do this but are not under the microscope. Give a white man your money and they will not invest it for your future but their own bank account. Where do they go. Federal Prison. Sorry got of track, but u all get the idea.
