Wesley Snipes Sentenced to 3 years at Club Fed
A judge has sentenced actor Wesley Snipes to 3 years in a federal penitentiary for tax evasion.
The feds don’t play when it comes to cheating Uncle Sam out of his loot! They don’t care who you are, the main goal is to send out a loud and clear message. Never mind that the biggest tax cheats work for the federal government:
Nathan J. Hochman, Assistant Attorney General of the Justice Department’s Tax Division, said, “Snipes’ long prison sentence should send a loud and crystal clear message to all tax defiers that if they engage in similar tax defier conduct, they face joining him and his co-defendants … as inmates in prison.”Snipes was convicted in February on three misdemeanor charges for not filing his taxes. The government claimed he owed $2.7 mil — but Snipes’ attorneys argued it was just $228,000. No fine was imposed, but the three-year sentence was the max he could have gotten.
Snipes didn’t have to turn himself in immediately. The judge ruled he could surrender at a later date. Maybe the judge forgot about the time Snipes fled to Africa last year to avoid capture by the feds. (Source)

I don’t know. I don’t think such long jail sentences for tax evasion are in order. how can he have roughly the same time as a robber…or someone who committed assault. It seems a little harsh to me. I don’t agree and think it’s sad that he’s going even though I’m not a fan of his.
I don’t get it, how does he get jail time, but no FINE from the IRS? That don’t even sound right!
And, I may be totally wrong, but something tells me, Wes ain’t walking in to no H&R Block to every year! Wouldn’t he have an accountant to do his taxes for him? And if so, are they being charged as well!?
I mean, I have no problem getting my back a$$ on Turbo Tax; I ain’t quite made it to the 6-figure salary (YET- lol). But trust and believe, if I had some millions, Horowitz & Horowitz would be on the J-O-B!

Wesley got 3 years. Couldn’t they have given him restituion and community service with a few years probation? You know America is trying to hang the black folks. Now that he is convicted he can’t vote and will not have influence for others to vote for Obama. It’s a black conspiracy I say. Remember our last election when celebs were traveling for “Rock the Vote, Vote or Die”. Who the hell goes to jail for not paying taxes? Even if it is deliberate the sentence for Wesley does not fit the so called crime. I say give him a chance to pay and let him be with his wife and children. Wake up ppl. America needs a change! Didn’t he say “Black Women smell funny and that’s why I don’t date them”……Well I guess that is besides the point. 3 years is a long @ss time. I guess you can get caught on tape with underage girls in this country and go free, but if you steal from this country- you may find yourself locked up and smelly funny;-)
So the government sentenced Wesley to a strict sentence so he wouldn’t be able to influence people to vote for Obama? That’s a conspiracy theory if I ever heard one. People do go to jail for tax evasion.
My taxes are paid and I won’t be visiting the pokey. AND I’m getting a rebate check in 2 weeks. How bout that Wesley?

@ Mia, yes ppl do go to jail for tax evasion. Leona Helmsley said “paying taxes is for the little ppl”. She did go to jail and isn’t she also the woman who passed away and left her bad ass dog 12 million dollars. If you defy and ignore taxes I say yes send them to jail. Why not give someone who is a now a C list celeb due time to repay it? If he goes to jail does it erase his debt?

Wesley doesn’t believe in paying taxes. Where he thinks the money is supposed to come from for the multitude of government programs our tax dollars pay for I don’t know. But if he doesn’t believe in taxes he shouldn’t be worrying about voting. As for who goes to jail for tax evasion just ask Ron Isley who is languishing in federal prison right now for getting slick with the I.R.S. This might be your first exposure to it, but the I.R.S. ain’t never played with folks.

@ Anna ~ I’m not trying to argue with you or anything, I just found your statement so far out there. People (regular people & celebs) go to jail for this stuff. Like someone mentioned, the government does not mess when money is concerned. Why should someone who is now a C-lister catch a break? I’m sure Wesley knew this day was coming. I don’t believe he was sentenced to jail as part of a larger conspiracy to keep Obama out of office though.
Bird, girl – that is so serious. They should send the IRS to find Osama – they WILL FIND IT down to the penny and they WILL get their money or time. Wes is C list (if that) actor. Even if he spent the rest of his life making movies, he won’t make enough to live the way he wants AND pay the IRS.

You don’t get a rebate or stimulis check if you don’t file on time. And also I never qualified for the “earned income credit. I am the “working married poor”. Gas and food prices are so high. Am I to wonder that the “Great Depression” is now, not what I read in my history books but a life that I feel I am living. Cosco and Wall Mart are limiting the sale of rice. I am not Mexican or Mexican American but have tickets to go to a Cinco De Mayo event on May 5th. Because of the economy am I going to be over charged for a true Mexican meal? I am just a woman who likes to absorb the surroundings around me. I think that as a person it is important to extend my being to other cultures. Beans and rice are not just a mexican thing. Me who wonders if I can afford to go out and get my grub on. lol

Oops, my bad. I just read that he paid 5M at sentencing of the 41M he owes. Furthermore I believe you can’t make more than 75k a year to receive the rebate.

Don’t feel bad. I am a working poor single mom of two and I don’t qualify for earned income credit either. That is so odd to me because I’d kill for some food stamps or something. They can call me middle class all they want. That just means middle class = broke.
Maybe Wesley watched and listened to that Michael Moore or was it Zeigist? Either way they did an interview with several IRS workers who all proclaimed to haven’t paid taxes since being employed with the IRS. They said that there is no law or rule that says people have to pay taxes. They were like they have asked the highest ranks at the IRS to show them where it says people HAVE to pay taxes. Each time they asked, no one could find or give them an answer.

When black folks do things to attract the attention from the Law/IRS its not a conspiracy sometimes these things are just done out of our own ignorance or blatant disregard for the law. Everyone knows it does matter what color you are when it comes to the IRS they don’t play.
I don’t have sympathy for him he should paid his taxes shoot I have to and don’t have a choice in the matter.

Off topic….The cops in the Sean Bell case up in NYC were found not guilty….Today is a sad day..Justice for that young man that was killed on his wedding day was not served at all..
