Well, Day 26 has done the impossible: the group’s debut album “Day 26” is the #1 album in the country with about 190,000 units sold. How did that happen? How does a manufactured group sell more units in its first week than the legend Janet Jackson?

How does Janet hold her head up after this? These are the signs of the times. The music industry is in its darkest days. But congrats to the guys. I can imagine how their heads are swelling right about now.

And by “manufactured group,” I mean a group that was put together in a short period of time for a specific purpose such as a TV show. En Vogue and other groups worked together for years before they made it big.

WWell I am happy for the guys. The cd is FIREEEEEEE. I think the fact that they are on TV is waht does it because we get to see them in the studio putting the album together. I know when i hear certain songs on the cd that i watch them record on the show just makes me feel aprat of the process and to know some of them was strugglin in the studio but in the end they puilled together and put out a fire cd. For me watchinmg them record on TV was great and I could not WAIT to hear the finish product and it was well worth the wait and the money

Well Sandra I am going to have disagree with you on this one. These guys are very talented. They can not help it that they were fortunate to be established by P.Diddy through a tv show. Give credit for when credit is do. I know usually do anyway.They desrve to be #1 and any others that holds that same status. Now as far as Janet, she is TIRED yes TIRED. Her days are pretty much over, Sorry. I am a big fan of DAY 26 and DANITY KANE. I love music period. And it does not matter how they were established if they got it they just got it. I love your page Sandra and keep up the good work.

I catch what you are saying by manufactured but EnVogue is not a good example because they were put together the exact same way except without TV. Unlike say a New Edition who were homies who liked to perform and did school talent shows. The members of EnVogue had to try out for the group for producers Foster and McElroy who put them together for the purpose or manufacturing a super singing girl group. They are exactly like Day 26.

As for the boys, I’m happy for them, but thought they would do better. I bought the CD and am not crazy about it, but if Diddy allows them to do another album I know it will be better. This album was put out too soon.

I love the album,reminds me of the 90’s at least they can sing.The music is good and I don’t have to worry about the content.They are not singing about hitin it from the front& back etc.. Also I don’t see anything wrong with how they got in the music business.There are a lot of talented people in the world that need to be discovered by any means necessary.Janet didn’t have to work that hard when she first came out because we were waiting for someone in that age group and someone or than Madonna at that time.Janet messed up with those 2 stupid video’s she did.She need to get with 2008 and stop doing videos that looks like she’s stuck in the 90’s. Janet don’t need to hang her head she has done great and been in this business for over 20 years

The CD is NOWHERE NEAR FIRE but congrats to them hopefully Diddy will let them have a hand in the creative process of their next CD so we can get a real feel for them personally!!!

I love the cd too and all those boys can SANG to me they fill that r&b void that has been missing as far as a guy group is concerned. I think they cd turned out GREAT for how fast they had to put it together I am telling you you can pot it in and let it paly from start to finish and i agree with heynow it has that 90’s feel like a jodeci/silkk type of feel. I don’t think the cd is fire, it’s okay. I only like 3 songs on the whole cd. I think they shouldn’t have rushed the album because it could’ve came out a whole better with some time. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE Day 26. Watching them from day 1 is how they sold 190,000 in the first week. Congratulations!

I think it has alot to do with having good management and marketing. I mean the boys can sing so I can see why they pushed so many units.

Good question Sandra. Good music will never reign anymore. That day is over. Trash music has taken over. How? Because people dont require much of soulja boy and these other new artists/ groups, but they magically become so freakin picky when it comes to longevity artists. I mean Janet’s cd is hot, but people are still complaining. Day 26 release a ok cd, and they are the hottest thing. Black people aren’t loyal. We will switch you out in a second for the smallest thing. I think black people purchased day 26 cd, those record sales does not reflect caucasian sales i believe, cause if so, the numbers would have been higher.

Good artists might as well go sit down, cause trash is the in thing now. This is indeed the dark days of music. I’m truly saddened by this phenomenom.

I’m with you. That Janet CD is the most solid CD I have bought from any artist in YEARS yet it’s not selling. I also agree with the person who said both of her videos were not good. I’m glad she is reshooting Rock With U. I hope the next one is better. While I don’t like the Day 26 CD I was conflicted about saying that because I want them to be successful. I’m glad that many of the people who commented said they liked it. They will love the next one after the guys have learned to blend better and the producers figure out how to showcase their talent without having every dude sing lead on every track which I found to be extremely messy.

Well I hear what Sandra is saying. Whether envogue auditioned to be in the group or not they were singing together for a min before they made it big, before they released an album. And boy did they do it good. Those four voices were near perfection. They blended well. At times it was hard to tell who was singing what. If you watch the makingtheband4 show it seems like these guys were just thrown together. Evident by diddy removing them from the studio and making them go back to vocal prep. I’m not mad at them though. At least they can sing. Diddys other boy group not so much. The danity kane ladies can all sing as well. That’s all I ask for with todays music. Its one thing if the songs suck, but when the person behind the songs cant even sing, they just have “the look” that’s what ruffles my feathers.

Alana may be right. Danity kane said on the wendy williams show they havent seen a dime from their first album. They blamed it on poor management, or rather day26 blamed danity kanes money woes on poor management. They said the same would not happen to them. I guess well see.

I believe most people were just curious about their sound and the finished product. Even if you bought the album for one song you helped the numbers. Viewers got a chance to see their road to stardom and work being put into the group and making the music.

Also, I don’t know why folks were sleepin’ on Will on the show. He is the hottest one and he keeps his mouth shut and has an easy going personality. Everyone else either wants Danity Kane or have a “big head” already.
I’m waiting for a friend to buy it and let me listen for a few days before making a decision to purchase.

i LOVE my boyz…love ’em! but honestly…the reason why they sold more than janet is they had a whole reality tv show to promote them. diddy is smart and powerful in that way. mtv is his thrown and he sits like a king on it. janet didn’t have a show and janet is getting older but still tryna do the young thang. on top of that these boys are talented man. i never thot janet was a GREAT singer. fun, cute, a great dancer but she aint blowin’ like alicia keys or keyisha cole. now janet is like a legend and deserves respect but maybe her time has come. plus everyone is going digital and doing the whole itunes and download thing. cd’s don’t sell like they used to. to me even 190k units is not that good bcz it’s 5 guys. what ever happened to the days when artists sold 1 million copies!!! 50, Tip, and Kanyes do it. what’s the deal??

Newflash, ALICIA KEYS isn’t blowin’. She is a pianist FIRST and she sings a little bit. I’m so sick of her hoarse voice and out of range tunes. I came through a performing arts school and she isn’t the only black person ever who knew how to play the piano(classical), write a song and look cute with braids.

I think since there are so many lame performers out there we’re forced to settle for less than great.

Sandra – Janet is my girl and the whole nine but you know how the industry is…had CIARA or RHIANNA made that same song “Feedback” it would be eveywhere. It’s her AGE?

Janet should have taken a page out of Madonna’s book, less albums more producing/owning a quality record label (MAVERICK).

It never ceases to amaze me how people can have one album and all of sudden they have artist of their own. Get a few years in the business before you do that or else it will be a complete failure.

Now, as far as Day 26: They are new and the hype behind them made them more appealing, so people went and purchased the album. I listened to it online, and believe me, I was not impressed! On the other hand, Janet needs to pick better singles. Her cd is actually nice, but when you pick songs that are “fillers”, you’re not gonna generate sales.
