Lil’ Mama’s new single L.I.F.E., an ode to teenage angst, teen pregnancy, domestic abuse and hopelessness in the hood.
L is for the liars that had surrounded me
I, insecurity. My head down in these streets
F, my future: there isn’t one
E-ternal hope - and this is my life
L.I.F.E. is the first single from Lil’ Mama’s upcoming CD VYP: Voice Of The Young People. Every woman who has a young daughter should urge her to watch this video. It’s very serious out there.
I love message rap. Remember back in the day when rap was… nevermind.

I’ll finish that sentence for you, Sandra.
Remember when rap was worth listening to & made u feel good? Like Fresh Prince’s “SummerTime.” or MC Lyte’s “Lite As A Rock.” Thank God Lil [old] Mama isnt afraid to speak up & address issues going on in our community. Lord knows I’m tired of Souljah Boy & his f*ckery
I’m about to tell my age here..but I had the album it takes a million to hold us back..PE was the truth and their message was heard and uncensored..grandmaster flash the message..white lines..I could go on and on with this..it was more than a new dance step and a cute hook..it was a way of life..i’m not the biggest Lil Mama fan but i applaud her for standing up and speaking out to our youth..there is a responsibility here just like it was then..the children are listening
Sandra you know this is like the 4th single and 4th video lol. Good message nonetheless.
I watched it on Access Granted last night and when it was time for the video to come on I called my 16 year old in to watch it. Neither of us were crazy about the video. I think I could barely hear the lyrics which I think are supposed to be important. Anyway, I really like Lil Mama a lot and plan to buy her CD. I didn’t now she sang. She’s pretty good.
This isn’t the first single… this is the third that I know of.
Her album been pushed back since last year.
I have mad respect for this lady. She’s out there doing her and not trying to conform to the sex image that some how sells music now.
all i want to know is how old is that lady (lil mama)? jah knows she’s damn near thirty so she need to the fukrey.
lil mama is all of 29. what’s her real name? ima do a background search and get back to yall on this…
proud of her. it’s true that music needs such reality and substance. and it’s awesome that she is not selling out to sexism yet.
but her nose makes her look much older…i think she is young in real life though. oh well sometimes it’s like that.
This is very beautiful!!!!
Finally got to see the vid. Not a fan of rap. I think rap is wack, this vid is on point and too bad that Mothers( I say mothers because in black homes 80% of black woman are single moms). Mothers do need to tell their children that they are worthy. They matter and also what is wrong with setting an example for our kids to look up to us as their “super heros”. Money only makes one rich. Raising kids without money only makes them more humble, wiser and more dertermined to achieve. Of course you have to throw in morals, values and disapline. I know my kids love rap but this video I will email to them. Lil Mama I see on different web sites but I never got a chance to listen to her music.(until now). I too like a song with a messege. “Mamas don’t let your babys grow up to be anything but winners. Money does not make a winner. The measure of a person does.
On the real Sandra thanks for the post of her new video this is so reminiscent of Nas’ single 1 Mic and his single he had with Quan I love this type of message within music this is what Hip Hop was all about and should be now…..I’m loving the song!!!
