Tyra is beautiful and she is light skinned. Period. I love how we constantly put Beyonce and Halle on pedestals. We're just as WHACK as the white media!

Having said that, I think that her statement is not totally true. For instance, in the model world, she is not considered the most famous Black female model. That goes to either Naomi Campbell or Iman who are both beautiful dark skinned black women.

One last thought. Since Lil Kim is now a light-skinned-ed sister, perhaps SandraRose can find out if Kim’s making more money because of it? Getting more respect? More dark-skinned men worshiping her slutty ass?

Quick question: Why so much hate for Tyra? No matter how dilly she comes across sometimes, she’s probably the only black female with not one but TWO tv shows going at the same time. We should support her if for only this reason. Now Oprah, she’s become so white.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I don't like her because her talk show somehow always turns to her/about her. She is not a good interviewer. I like ANTM becase she is not on it for the entire 60 minutes. Yes she is successful, but with success comes hard work. I just think she tries to hard. If she is so beautiful why isn't she married. Even ugly ppl want someone to share their life with.
LMAO about Lil Kim!
More dark-skinned men worshiping her slutty ass? Just what ARE the advantages of being light-skinned in America? I'll tell you one thing for sure. We're all Negroes to the average white man!!!! We need to get our s*** together and concentrate on more important things, like surviving the next revolution, which WILL not be televised.
Tyra Banks is what you call "paper-sack brown", a term used decades ago by Howard U. students when attending certain frat and soro parties. You were not invited if you were not "paper-sack brown." Same goes doing the Harlem Renaissance. If you were not "light, bright damn near white" you were not part of the "in crowd", although folks like Zora Neale Hurston, a brown-skinned Diva, held her own back doing these innovative times because of her tremendous talents. (Stay in school younguns, knowledge is the key.)
Sad but true, Tyra Banks speaks nothing but the truth. My grandmother, who could almost past for white, once told me that her mother advised her at an early age to marry a dark-skinned black man because he would take care of her and idolize or worship her, which he did. He built her a house back in the 40s that most black folks then could only dream of. His nickname was "Ben Blackie."
Back to Hollywood standards. How many major black Hollywood male stars are "light, bright, damn near white" or even "paper-sack brown? Denzel? Eddie Murphy? Poitier? Martin Lawrence? Cosby? What color are they? Are their features black? Can we say the same for the few major female black stars? Halle? Beyonce? Hell, is that all I can name? Double standards anyone?
ugh! tyra gets under my skin...
thx for reppin' for us dark[er]-skinned women. i already have a positive self-image; i don't think any light-skinned or dark-skinned celebrity had anything to do with it...my family and my upbringing did and to be honest, my positive self-image has a lot to do with the things i accomplish/goals i set than the way i look (tyra needs to redirect the msg she's "trying" to send to kids...)
Damn my log in finally worked! I love Tyra and I think she is fucking gorgeous. But I think several of you are miscontruing her words. She's saying that she is trying to help kyds see that light skinned isn't the only beautiful black color by featuring darker women on her show. I'm sure there are some kyds that aren't watching "Girlfriends" or don't know who the hell Denzel's wife is...but they know Beyonce and Ashanti and they might be developing the misconception that their tones are the only beautiful black tones out there. You guys should read "The Bluest Eye." And stop hating on Tyra, she's fucking goregous.
first things first... Adam Rodriguez is BEAUTIFUL, that man is practically the only reason I watch CSI Miami. Pauletta is WORKING it! I've always thought she was a beautiful sister. she's getting better and better with time :)
as for Tyra... that broad is delusional. somehow she's convinced herself that she's this great "force" in the building of self esteem in young girls. SPARE ME. each time i hear her speak on the "plight" of black women, i want to spit. My thing is, if you have the brainpower of a flea, you may want to sit down and STFU. you have nothing of substance to say Tyra, stop trying to convince yourself otherwise.
I saw the show and I think Tyra meant well. The comment was kinda takin' out of context. I will say that it is getting old for us to hate on people about something they have no control over, like attractive looks or skin color. The reason I believe that I have never hated on any sister because of her looks or anything superficial is because she had nothing to do with it. Admire sisters because of their accomplishments or personality...THAT is something they actually had something to do with. I must say I am very thankful to my parents and God for the looks and skin color they gave me, but I have never been full of myself (even though people and their comments can blow your head up if you're not careful) and I have focused more on being more than an attractive woman. I want you to hate on me for that, not looks. (BTW, I am not light)It's stupid and oh so MINAH!
