Is Lauren London typical of today’s black woman?

A guy named Sergeant Willie Pete breaks down Lauren London’s responses in a recent King magazine interview. I couldn’t stop laughing at his raw analysis of black women who love them some thug men. But after the laughter, the cold reality is that this is how our young black women think.

Here’s an excerpt from the article that the sergeant most objected to:

KING: So you want a man who’s both honest and thug?

London: An authentic gangsta—that deletes about half the rap game off your list. I love guys who are street. I won’t even give soft guys a chance. Menace II Society is my shit! Caine was like my first crush. Actually, O-Dog was my true dream guy. I was in love with him, from that opening scene where he pops the convenience-store worker. He had me from that gunshot [laughs]. He was ’hood, and I loved that.

In retrospect, I never knew London, who played Nu Nu in the movie ATL, was so dumb. But maybe this is God’s plan: to take the dumbest of our women and put them together with the dumbest men (thugs) and hope that they don’t procreate thus canceling each other out.

Okay what lauren said was not so bright (if she really wasn’t misquoted by the writer of the article like she said she was). Actually sweety I have no kids whatsoever. And I just don’t settle for any nigga please believe I’m far from ignorant don’t let the pretty face and model body fool you hun. Lauren is still young, so she might not have thought out what she way saying when she made that comment. On the other hand, I agree with the other few posts in here! For Lauren to make that statement was dumb, but real at the same time. I feel like you choose the men you are around the most. Alot of young black females grow up in the hood and if you have grown up in the hood all of your life and you are around a thugs and see no positive role models except maybe in school or church, don’t have a father around or have no sense of what a decent man is…..Guess what you go for that guy you are use to. It is what it is. I think all woman want a educated, smart, not a punk with a little hood in them. But life doesn’t always give you that opportunity to meet the educated guy. You choose you own destiny in life and if you feel like selling dope is what you want to do than that is your decision nobody else. Don’t blame black woman for that cause when he gets caught who is the first person he trying to call to make sure his straight in jail his baby mama, his Ho, or his mother. All wihich are females. This Sgt character is a trip off the side of the world. He is talking about how Lauren is setting black women back 300 years and then he says that he puts a bitch on the 3 day rule. This dude doesn’t speak to the character of all black women. I have never been in a video so the 400 videos he has as evidence still doesn’t include me. Lauren was being really ignorant in the interview but this Sgt Willie is just as ignorant. I don’t ask a man to provide me with anything more than I can do for myself. Ms. Sandra, I’ll have to agree with the ladies who called you bias. I love me some Monica..and I too like a man with an edge who isnt soft..I always say I want a “corporate man with street smarts”. There are men out there who have street smarts but at the same time they don’t wear their pants sagging off their azz, talking like they’ve never had English 101. They have been to school and they are doing big things. These brothers own companies and/or have jobs in corporate america and know how to act out in public. When in danger, these men aren’t caught like a dog with his tail between his legs, if they need to DEAL with somebody, they know how to handle their business.

But back to the matter at hand…if Lauren did say this..this is no different from the numerous interviews where our beloved Monica has stated what kind of man she wants. So be mindful of those you preceive as “dumb” for wanting a hood brother when a lot of the industry chicks you big up are the same — Monica, Tiny, Keyshia Cole and the list goes on.

Lauryn is young and that might be the kind of man she’s interested in NOW. When a thug pops her across the head her taste will change. I’m 36 and I like a real dude, myself. By that I mean I like a man who wears his pants a little low SOMETIMES, keeps a fresh cut, and makes me laugh. But then, he also has to have a legal job which allows him to EMAIL or IM during the day, and he has to treat me and others around him with respect — unless he’s challenged. (A nice dude who can’t be walked over.) I have just described my husband and I think most women want a touch of n!gga mixed with gentleman. The problem is that you either find JUST a n!gga with no gentleman in him or vice versa. The mix is what a lot of black women want.

Another problem is that women don’t give men a chance to show who they are. Women tend to make snap decisions based on what they see on the outside. A lot of real guys get passed over b/c chicken heads don’t understand that a REAL man doesn’t put it all out there on day one. They pass up nice guys thinking that they are weak, but often times if they’d give the nice guy a minute they’d realize that the nice guys can kick azz too. But the guy who is talking about Lauryn isn’t a nice guy. He’s a bitter guy who needs some snatch asap.

Also, … Its not just a “black woman” way of thinking. There are plenty of young MINDED white girls/women who are the same way. Some of them like white dudes who have a lot of money, drive a BMW, ….are hooked on some crazy drug (Meth), probably kick their ass every once in awhile…. all of that and then some or a combo of a few(you get it). To say you agree with London but you also like men like Barack Obama and Hill Harper…almost sounds contradictory. I’m sad to say that alot (NOT ALL. BUT ALOT) of what that guy had to say is true, but like others on here have said, it’s not just black women! Let me just say this as a man and as one the lived the street life for a long time, for me it wasn’t choice it was circumstance, I did what I had to do to eat, survive and support family.

HOWEVER… I watched the Cosby show, I watched a Different World and in my thug years I always dreamed of living a life as what I saw on TV, I watched shows of people living well, having a nice family, wife and kids, etc.. So it was my motiviation to achieve it, to see more than just my hood because pissy elevators, trash in the hallways wasn’t my flavor ever. Just because you are in the hood, you are not cut off from the outside world. That excuse is such a cop out for everything. If you want a better life you can attain it, you just have to want it. Majority of these dudes come from decent households, they may have not been rich but they had school clothes, food everyday and a roof over their head. They simply do it for the show, males do it for the females simple and plain. The females make a huge part of the contribution to where ish is today. Just like Banner said if the women wouldn’t give these dudes the time of the day, I bet there wouldn’t be a lot of thugs in this world. Part of the thug ritual is to have a lot of women, you may be the main one but in the code of being a thug is do f**k a lot of women. I haven’t met one that said I am faithful to my girl and they never will. Just listen to Plies song I don’t even know the title “where he said I know i did you wrong but can I f**k you one more time before you go”. Thanks for sharing your comment. For some it is survival, do or die. No one has to stay in that way of life because, there are choices. I want a man who knows how to kick ass, but not mine. I want a man with a backbone and who knows how to stick up for himself. I don’t want a thug, I want a man. All these woman who purposely get pregnant by a thug and he is able to buy cribs, play pens and diapers, so what. What is the baby going to get when his ass gets shot and dies or shot and lives. If he did not pay anything into social security there is no future money. He can’t get a accidental death or injury (while on the job)policy. You have to have a real job to qualify. So sad that so many young woman think so little of themselves that they don’t know that looking foward to the future is not in their dreams. Now the groupies that like the thugs with movie and record deals, they may get paid but how many thugs stick around to help raise the child(ren)?

Someone needs to define what it means to be real and hard. There is absolutely nothing real about a guy who wears his pants low, carries a pistol, there’s nothing hard about any of that. Makes these guys a look like a turd.

That is my point exactly. The only choice you have to follow a crowd of people because the offer is right in your face. Of course I can try to work for McDonalds for $7 per hour after taxes, working 40 hrs. You still don’t have enough to survive. Plus you have to go fill out applications, interviews, etc. at a young age for me I didn’t know what to say or how to present myself outside the hood at the time. Even though I say it was circumstance but it was still a choice I made. Make $7 per hr x40 = $280 per week – taxes = 200 take home. Still not enough to make ends meet. Your homies present you with opportunities to make that in a day maybe just a few hours. To me at the time it was a no brainer, but was I being comfortable doing it. Never. I was afraid having a girlfriend because in the real “Gangsta” world majority of the time they don’t hurt you they hurt the ones close to you because the pain is much more.

Anyways if anybody claims they make millions in the street, you have more than opportunity to get out. Prodigy from Mobb Deep said in one of this songs “No matter how much money I get, I am staying in the projects” but yet when True Life robbed them in the studio they wonder why? Plus P is doing time now. Thats that for their rap career because they won’t make it again.

I know plenty of females that dated drug dealers and bragged about it as if it gives them street cred or something. One had a baby by this dude she told me that he gave $50K in case something happens, she drove all the latest benzes, gucci, prada all the shit. But one day the feds kicked their door down, took his ass in on a fed charge. They froze all of their assets even her $50K he gave her for the in “case something happens” took all of their ish. They put the pressure on her to say what ever she knew, she was under constant surveillance, nobody wanted her around because she was “hot”. She had leave her place of residence and had nowhere to go but her Moms house. This girl was bad but within 1 year she looked like ish because of all the stress she lost like 40 lbs. Her boyfriend threatened her is she said anythign he would come for her then the feds told her if doesn’t she will face hard time and baby will have no parents, etc.. I didn’t feel sorry for at all, she got what she deserved. She was warned plenty of times, she taught it was funny! Well ask her now.

You should be on the governments payroll to go across america and speak in the schools. If a kid hears something first hand they are able to make different decisions. Actually I don’t really care on being a the governments payroll. Me and my partner have a foundation that caters towards the inner city youth. We are doing free football camps where we have several NFL Players and coaches (this year we had 15) come in and teach them not only football but what it takes to become a successful part in society. We also give away scholarships right now its 2 per year for $2500 but our goal is to give one away every month and this year we are implementing a program with Deon Grant where he will sponsor all the kids that attend the camp ACT or SATs tests if they want to take it. Our objective is to offer opportunities for these kids that don’t have any and if we can’t provide it we will offer the resources so they can find someone that will. The website will be the access point for all the kids and the foundation. We have been doing this 5 years now. this year in May we were able to raise almost $30,000. So we try to do our part

I am one who reads in between the lines. I knew you were a person who gives back. We need more like you. I would love to know your website address and do you take samll charitable donations. One reason I love Obama is because he was not coming at you(us) asking for big time donations. He had a website and if you could only give $1 or $5 it added up to millions for him to be able to contiune his campaign debt free. You keep doing what you do my brother. Your positvie attitude shines through your comments. You need to write a book. For me to take the time to read all the comments is not out of boredom(I have enough in my life to do). Taking the time to read each comment gives me an idea about the person behind the words. We had a huge apartment complex fire in my city due to a fire cracker. The damage is 120 homeless souls. Not one person died and only one minor injury. The fire victims left with only the clothes on their back. Cars caught on fire or exploded. There were 15 different fire trucks there and 85 fire fighters. Looking at the pics on the news, it looks like Beruit. Many ppl may not have a home to go to but I am sure they still have to go to work come Monday morning. I am taking a break from cleaning out my closet of things I don’t wear and things I do wear. I work in a office and have plenty of office clothes for someone who can’t take time off and “the man” still expects them to show up for to work. Purses that I collect but don’t use, high heel shoes that you have to look professional at work to wear. You can make your own circumstances by choice but sometimes, shit happens and you have to humble yourself and accept help from others. People who lived through Katrina(which happened 3 years ago next month) are still struggling. My point is. I can feel their pain but don’t live it. I can pray for them but unless I do something I am selfish. Through all my empathy and hurt for others, reading your comments made me smile. I needed to smile after hearing about some jackasss who thought it was ok to light a fire cracker on a balcony and it ended up on a roof top and caused homelessness to so many ppl. In my state anything that has to be lit to celebrate the 4th is illegal, only thing that is ok is sparklers. I know I am blessed. I know GOD is good all the time.

This actually the first year that we started taking donations the past four years we just paid for everything out of pocket. We just want it to be bigger and better so that we can offer a lot more to under privileged kids. you don’t have to play football in order to qualify for the scholarship, you just have to proof that you work hard and want to get ahead. You can donate however much you like. We are definitely legit and we have been getting grants from the NFL for the past five years where they acutally wanted to integrate one of their programs with ours. thanks for your interest. I don’t know about writing a book. I just like to do what I do, we don’t have to be famous for it because it ain’t about us, it was us being blessed to be able to do what we do today (me and my career as well as my partners football career), if it wasn’t for certain people being behind us and believing in us we wouldn’t be here today. So this is just a way for us to pass the torch. We just dudes that found our way, we are not preachers in anyway, we are just like everybody else that go to the club every ones in awhile, get a little toasted, look at some booty in the strip club here and there but the difference is that we know what matter and what value life holds. I guess that is our message to the young boys, that you can still party and have fun, make a lot of money legitmate no matter where you come from all you need is a clear mind. You gotta have substance and values, know the price of your actions, if can’t afford or don’t want to pay the price for it, then just don’t do it! I been to jail and ever since I knew that was NOT the place for me in any shape or form. If any chick feels like that makes me soft than she can do the time because ain’t NO P**y good enough for me spend a day in that concrete block unless it is family that is being violated.

I am 41 years old and you just wow me. I appreicate how you express yourself. Thank you for giving me and the rest of the room your website address. I will sure check it out and hope there is a way that I can help. I can say that I am a sucker for a man with a passion, a man who not only has a dream but makes it happen. Your mother should be so proud. I don’t know how old you are but age is only a number. Keep doing what you are doing and it is nice to have a man on this site to chat with. A man with an opinion, but also a man making sense. We on this site are a family and we sometmes bash a woman for wearing the wrong shoes or a certain dress. We do it in fun(I hope). I don’t hide behind a keyboard and say things just to be mean or because I know how to type. I chat about the good the bad and the ugly, but I also chat about “reality”. It’s a cruel world out there and I know that I am the “get away from my parents” for teens who land on my door step. I do take the kids in, and call the parents and let them know where their child is. I keep them to “cool down” for a few days and find a way for them to reunite with their parent(s) on good terms. Why do I do what I do, I don’t know. It is just a natural thing for me that I got use to. I did not sign up for it but My husband and I are happy to help.
PS. My kids are the ones who have been bringing home stray kids with problems for many years now, everyone has problems but for my kids to step up and bring them home for us to meet, feed and go back home to their (blood) family is a blessing. The stray kids brought home are now older and stable. I am glad I get along with teens and pre teens. what would I do if my kids brought home stray animals? (insert smile). I would not be able to call their parents. LOL.

I am only being myself. I think it is important to have people of substance and people to take action. Too many people just like to run their mouth and express their opinion but don’t do a damn thing about it. And in my opinion the new generation is running around like wild animals without any guidelines. Everybody wants to be “somebody” and in the process they pimp themselves but not getting anything from it. Everything that is going on is a result of what we haven’t been doing for the past decades. The chicks hoeing around, guys wanna be thugs, everybody is in search to be somebody or make a name for themselves like they are starving for attention and it could be that because we have no family structure anymore. Females let these thugs get them pregnant, then they wind up in jail, dead or the chick was just a jump off. Now she has to raise the kids herself no father, she don’t know much of life, so the kids wind up being bad. Even though many black women feel they can raise their kids themselves but the reality they CAN’T. Half can’t control them by the age of 14. So you have a bunch of wild ass kids with no values and standards about anything because they haven’t been taught. I mean this is a topic that we can discuss for days.

The same way how being gay is becoming the everyday thing. I personally don’t care what people do. I just don’t agree with it and I don’t think it is ok to broadcast it like we do. The gay behavior has so increased and I just don’t believe that everybody was on the low all this time, I believe that a lot of them do it by choice because right now that is the thing to do with songs like “My girl gotta girlfriend”. I believe that many may be born that way, but I think that a lot of them just are influenced. I am making this a gay or not gay discussion but I strictly point that out that I believe that a broken home can influence kids in a lot of ways just like joining a gang and murdering for it. The only reason why this happens is because they are looking for role models or someone to turn too. 60% of parents suck ass in parenting. You have to be a friend to your kid and many black parents don’t feel that way. That is when they create the Nu Nu’s.

I also believe that there are ppl who were born gay. But then there are those who choose to be. Too many young kids are being left to take care of themselves. I am just glad that there are ppl like you that want to give them positive things to look forward to. I did view your website and was only able to donate $25 yesterday. Keep up the good work, these kids need to know there is hope.
