What’s that old saying, “when in Rome, do as the Romans do”? Solange was in London, England this week and she apparently did her homework on the native styles and trends.
In London (where I’m from, by the way) hats are huge business. It’s always been that way, really. But the style got a little attention from the American media when Fergie’s daughters Princesses Eugenie and Beatrice, wore their hats to the Kentucky Derby in June.
People stateside don’t get the whole hat thing, but the Princesses hat wear caused quite a stir back in England. Many Brits saying they loved the choices the Princesses made.
Anyway, I’m happy to see Solange acknowledging the British fashionableness of wearing hats and head pieces. She is fast becoming one of my favorite artists.

I like the hat … and I must agree .. Hats are nothing new in the Black Church … just don’t sit behind one .. you’ll never see what happens(ed) in the Pulpit … lol

I’m so sorry I didn’t know about the hat tradition at the Kentucky Derby during my mother’s time on earth. She was THE hat queen. She even made her own hats. I would have sent her to the Kentucky Derby to show all those ladies what’s up!

I think Rhianna AND Solange have that SAME “I’m trying to prove something” style. Rhianna’s trying to be “edgy” and Solange is trying to be “NOT Beyonce.”

Err your average Britain doesn’t walk around wearing that foolishness on their heads…. well that is unless they’ve been lucky enough to snag a ticket to Ascot, where women are encouraged to wear outrageous creations. But other than that nah……

OK, let’s be clear here. THE ONLY REASON SANDRA IS HYPING SOLANGE IS BECAUSE SHE’s NOT BEYONCE!!!!! Seriously. Yes her singing voice is listenable and her style is creative, but if she were just Kim Smith, would anyone really care??? As usual Sandra is trying to be messy.
