Jermaine Dupri’s Buckhead restaurant, Cafe Dupri, closed its doors for good last week. According to WSB-TV, the restaurant’s employees were left without paychecks or jobs. Workers had complained for weeks about bounced checks and bank notices of insufficient funds.
Some employees came to work even after utilities were shut off recently. Jermaine Dupri’s mother, Tina Mauldin, told Channel 2 Actions News the restaurant closing was a “business decision”. She also took a swipe at her former employees, saying maybe if the employees had worked harder, Cafe Dupri would still be open.

I went there not too long ago and the waitress was on point. I don’t think I ever had bad service.

I’ve been there a couple of times, and the employees couldn’t have been more professional. They shouldn’t be unemployed too long.

I never went there … I was scared I was gonna see JD and my appetite would have been ruined … All I wanted to order would be corn niblets everytime I say his teeth.

When I visited JD’s cafe the service was terrible. It took over an hour for us to get our food and the bathrooms looked like we were at a truck stop or something. Hate to see people out of a job but that restaurant was garbage!
It does probably have a little to do with the employees. No one wants to go to a place where the workers are horrible at customer service. No customers = no profit = no paychecks.. Its not always easy to say hire good staff especially in the ATL because everyone is in the closet somewhere trying to be a rapper or something. Or not coming to work because of “studio time”..Employees really do make a business and I can somewhat understand her comment.

I agree this is probably a lawsuit in the making,ployees were bad they could have always hired new staff. I am sure they are not the only reason the business is closing. Bounced checks & unpaid wages equal more to the story people.

and we didn’t see this coming when they first opened? here’s the deal with these fly by night celebrity ventures, especially these locals….they tend to think whatever business they throw out there will be successful because of their name. not the case.
this dude really needs to stick to making music. he’s doing too much and it’s getting tired. wow @ his mom making that comment. JD is too busy. i get the impression he’s the type investor with a portfolio that never flourishes because when things get tough, he pulls out; he’s not a risk taker. JD seems to only stick around when things are good.

well…i went there for a birthday party a co-worker had and it was terrible. the food was disgusting..and it was hella small in there.
tina is bogus…how the hell u gone blame the employees?! the BS starts from the top and tickles down…jd should’ve been more involved or selected someone who was capable of holding it down…if she was so concerned she should’ve had her a$$ over there…

JD’s mother needs to just shut up. This is no way to treat employees. These employees are entitled to receive compensation for their work. Rest assured, you’re going to see all types of lawsuits pop up behind this.
JD’s mother was wrong for the cheap shot @ the employees, saying it would have stayed open if they worked. Umm..why didnt you fire them and hire worthy staff if you felt their performance was less than desired?
I can’t believe JD hasn’t responded to this yet! How do you make a business decision such as “closing” and not inform your employees! JD needs to explain this and why his momma is going around giving explanations that make no sense!LOL
actually the food was very good i used to eat there often nothing like the fried collard greens they had. i can say the very last time i went like a month ago it was somewhat lacking. the food i wanted was there but the person i went with seems like they where out of everything they wanted. and the service was extremely slow even though the waiter was nice it wasnt like the normal experiences i had there. but food i did enjoy hopes he comes back with a better location and better restaurant because it was tiny
i had no idea he had a restaurant and even if i did i wouldn’t have gone, lol.
