‘Kelly Bundy’ diagnosed with breast cancer
A nursing friend of mine once joked that the best prevention for breast cancer was breast implants. But this is no laughing matter: more black women are diagnosed every year with a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer than our white counterparts. Yet white women receive better quality oncology care than we do.
Actress Christina Applegate, who is best known for her role as the ditsy Kelly Bundy on Married With Children, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 36-year-old producer and star of TV’s Samantha Who?, is currently undergoing treatment for breast cancer, according to E! News.
Applegate’s rep released a statement saying:
“Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening. Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery.”

Awareness and early dection. Black folks tend to ignore things more. Especiallay when it comes down to taking care of themselves.
I’m so glad it was caught early. I hate cancer like it was a person who killed someone in my family and in fact it has. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. God bless her and everyone effected by this horrible illness.

I don’t know about all that, but her mother died from breast cancer when she was fairly young. So I’m sure Christina got more screenings than the average woman (Black or White).
I don’t think it’s a Black or White issue more than a poor/middle class/rich issue.
your nursing friends sounds stupid…although there’s nothing wrong w/ implants, it’s sometimes harder to detect lumps…and this is her idea for a solution (whether intended for a joke or not)…
My cousin who is black is battling breast cancer .. she got routine screening did the monthly self exams when she found a lump on tues .. and had a masectomy on Fri .. it was THAT agressive …

Wow when I saw this I just was really shocked.
She’s only a year older than me and she has breast cancer? I know people can get it younger, I had a benign breast mass at 15.
It just makes me realize that I’m getting older and the older you get the less indestructable you become. That’s what it is. You spend your 20′s thinking Ahh not me that won’t happen to me I’m only in my 20′s. Then in your 30′s you start thinking Oh **** that could happen to me.

I hope she gets well.
But the truth is, black people do not go to the doctor. We don’t, especially our black men. I read that christina’s mother had breast cancer so she knew there was a chance, so I guess she did regular check up. I hope she gets well.
You’re right Starr I have to force my husband to go for check ups. Other than that he only goes when something is bothering him.
I hope she has a full recovery!!
