Usher Rehires His Mom As His Manager

    EDITED:
On 8/6/08 I posted a statement that Usher fired his publicist Patti Webster. That statement was incorrect. Click here for the correction.

Not that it’s going to do any good, but Usher has officially rehired his mother, Jonetta Patton, as his manager.

Patton was unceremoniously fired on Mother’s Day last year – allegedly on orders of Usher’s wife Tameka Foster-Raymond.

Usher laughably told the press he “retired” his mother so she could become a glorified babysitter to his and Tameka’s son Usher Raymond V.

According tp Jawn Murray of AOL Black Voices blog and BV Buzz, Usher officially ended his business relationship with manager Benny Medina, whose other clients include Mariah Carey.

Ush also dumped his longtime publicist Patti Webster, owner of W&W PR firm. (click here for correction) But she’ll press on with her other high-powered clients such as Janet Jackson, Jermaine Dupri, Alicia Keys and Ludacris, among others.

Industry insiders speculated that Usher’s failed album and low ratings for the BET Awards – for which he was the opener – spurred him to rehire his mama.

“His core audience is black women and honestly, no black woman wants to support a man who treats his mother badly,” an industry insider told Murray.

The truth is Usher’s stank attitude is what sank his ship. By flaunting his marriage to a woman his female fans considered a barracuda — he killed any chances of his fans supporting his album. The fact that the album was wack didn’t help any.

Usher acknowledged his fans’ disapproval of his wife by being an even bigger jerk than he already was. He took every opportunity to tell his fans to leave his wife alone which made him seem soft and whipped.

His career virtually in shambles, Usher was forced to crawl back to his mama on his hands and knees. We seriously doubt Jonetta can resurrect Usher’s career, but we’re sure she’ll give it the old college try.

I’m glad she’s back, and I think his career can be resurrected; he IS talented.

Other than that, amazingly, I agree with everything else you said. I’d like to add that Usher has always seemed to be in his own, clueless, little world. He has poor judgement when it comes to appeasing the fans. Luckily, he had talent enough to make us overlook “In the Mix”, the whole dissing Chili thing, and his over confident confidence (lol).

    Usher says:

“..I lost my way, she said she’d stay
And lately I’ve been sleeping with a [old ass] ghost
My stock is down and out [and so are my record sales], I used to be worth my weight in gold [Did 'Here I Stand' even go GOLD?]
That was before the great depression [aka Tamika] kicked in and rocked us
And that was before the hurricane [aka Tamika] came in and stopped us
I told you to leave, but you lied to me
When you said that, baby no worries I promise to get us back…”

She can ressurect his career by: 1) getting a DNA test on that baby and finding out that it belongs to MANeka’s baby 2) Choreograph the biggest, nastiest, most public divorce in the history of R&B complete with pictures of him looking lonely, confused and broken-hearted 3)Have him to write/record songs about his heartbreak, the search for a new chic, and how he is grown and sexy now. He would be back on top! he would be back in the game!

(I wouldn’t be surprised if all this was the plan from the beginning by either all of them or just Ush and his mom. Controversy sells records.)

ok..now if we can get the REST of the team then we are on a roll..I figured we was listening to someone since you see him out and about more by himself now then what he was before. As for his album it’s ok..the issue is you don’t spring GROWTH like that on your fans..you do it gradually..and the ode to his wife songs did not help matters.. what they need to do is reconstruct the album with some new music that his fans will actually like, he doesn’t have to get rid of all the material, but his fans pay his bills..he needs to cater to them..unfortunately he figured that out the hard way

His career is DEAD! Just about as dead as Britney spears’, Micheal, Janet, oh hell THe Jacksons and soon to be Soulja Boi careers. He rode the ride quite well until he married a man and tried to pass his dusty draws off as panties instead of boxers! Then had the nerve enought to act like WE the fans who put money in his pockets since before he even realized he was gay were wrong for being outraged at his farce of a relationship! The nerve, but ya’ll know how “those” types of guys do!

    I don’t think that Usher’s attitude was stank…

And while his fans might not have agreed with his marriage choice…it did buy him publicity that he couldn’t begin to pay for…

His album just wasn’t up to snuff…that’s all…especially when you compare it to previous ones…

He’s doing the right thing by going back to what worked before…

    heavn_sent says:

I’m inclined to agree that it’s going to take more than his Mommy to bring him back. That’s like the Redskins bringing Joe Gibbs back (DC Stand-up) thinking that he was going to immediately get us back to a Superbowl! It takes more than one person. And WHO (Black) FIRES THEIR MOTHER!! That’s soe Lindsay Lohan/b. spears mess.
Not only didn’t I buy Usher’s album, I didn’t even listen to it. He lost me some time ago. He got waaaaaay to arrogant. The BET Thing..helloooo?? He came back doing the same wack steps from when he left..Is he serious? Has he been watching? Does the name Chris Brown ring any bells? If you’re so grown, be grown and leave that kiddy stuff to the kids! There was no orginality, the lip-singing was the worst!
Then we have to see and here him professing his love for this woman every chance he gets (Thou doth protest too much). Am I the only one who remembers Kobe’s MTV special where he was flaunting his ring and talking about how much he looooooves his wife? This was before the $4m, I’m sorry ring! My point, exactly. I don’t know Tamika, have nothing against her, never met Usher. But I’ve read little to nothing positive about her and that’s not a good look for him.

I heard Usher was a little upset because “Hear I Stand” didn’t have the explosive first week sales that his last album did, But hiring his mom back is not going to help his numbers..I personally think his last album was way overrated, the first single “Yeah” with Lil Jon and Ludacris took is album a long way..Usher has to realize that every album is not going to sell 1 million copies in in he first week, he sold around 400,000 copies which is damn good in an era where most people aren’t selling albums.

With this economy are ppl even buying CD’s? With that said, yes Usher’s sales did fine. I am glad he hired his mom back but can’t understand why his wife does what she does. A wife should never come between her husband and his mother, even if it is a unhealthly realtionship. That is up to the man to figure out.

    Bird says:

Unless Benny and the publicist told Usher to scream on fans for dissing his wife every chance he got and hand selected the wack songs on his album, it is not their fault the album flopped. Under those same circumstances the album would have flopped even if Jonetta was his manager. He needs to stop worrying about what people say about his wife and he needs better music.

Well first off all, Usher needs to come harder than what he’s been doing because honestly when I heard he was gonna open up the BET awards, I was like oh shoot, he gon bring it. Well I was disappointed when I saw the show. Lip-synching? Stiff dance moves?? Are you serious Usher? We could have had Beyonce open the show again, at least she woulda brought more energy.

And to top it off, you kept sounding like a straight beeech defending your wife every 10 seconds. I can understand you defending her one good time but every time dude?? Come on now, we want to know about the music, not about you defending your marriage. And I have purchased every Usher album but not this one because none of the songs sparked my interest. But good luck to Ursh!!

@Kymystry…”flying roach”?!?! LMBAO!! I’m dying over here!! =D

As for Usher, I think he’s talented, but he always struck me as being conceited and way over confident. I don’t own one Usher CD. But it seems to me that as long as he’s married to that thing Tameka, he will continue to miss his fans. Let’s face it, his main audience is young women and gay boys…neither of which would be happy about him getting married to ANYONE, let alone THAT.

I think AKAtastrophy has the right idea!!

I agree with you 100 on the next single should not have been Moving Mountains. The album was actually very good to me. But you can’t come out with Love in this club and then have a basically slow tempo album. But I am glad his mom is his manager again.

    is this the reason:

Although Usher’s new album, “Here I Stand,” debuted at the top of the charts when it was released in May and has resulted in a No. 1 smash with “Love in This Club,” it has yet to pass the 1 million mark in sales (it has sold about 948,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.) In comparison, his last album, “Confessions,” sold 1.1 million copies in its first week when it was released in 2004 on its way to more than 8 million copies sold in the United States alone.

His stank fake attitude, and outrageous behavior is what sunk his boat. He’s one arrogant a-hole!

I agree with what the insider said. His behavior toward his mama, and his loyalty to a woman who clearly detests his mother is hard to swallow. We all knew that was a dumb move to fire your own mother, the woman who made your narrow as/s, and the one virtually responsible for your career success. That manly lookin dude he married can’t compare to that. Welfare money stealing tramp.

Bottom line, he has lost me as a fan, and i will never come back cause the lord has revealed his true spirit. I hope he enjoyed the success while it lasted, because this stain will forever be noticeable. He will never again enjoy a year like 2004.

remember…the abum was “allegedly” downloaded 1 million times when it leaked..confessions was leaked like crazy too but he still took home a diamond..is it the economy..maybe, but it’s also the artist and his interaction with his fans..and let’s face it mr. heart on his sleeve dropped the ball too many times to count…his “fans” did the final fcuk u

Uhhh… Sandra, Usher will be fine career wise. He just needs the right people around him to help him stay focused so he can get back to the top of his game…. *cough..cough and lose Tameka while he’s in the firing mood… *cough did I say that??

Anyway, when Ms Patton was on board as manager, Usher was on point!! and she had his best interest at heart. Nobody can save the day like momma can! Usher without Ms. Patton is like the rice without the gravy. Ms. Patton is the gravy! LOL Usher will be fine! Mary J and Mariah went through the same thing and people said they were done, finished, over, it’s a wrap…then they both came back big and blew everybody ot the water. Usher can do it to if he gets his mind right.
