Dre’ 3K launches new men’s clothing line: Benjamin Bixby
Rap artist Andre 3000 recently launched his new men’s clothing line Benjamin Bixby at Barney’s New York during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.
The new line named after a cartoon character in Dre’s head, is inspired by the 1930s letter sweaters and Varsity jackets worn by Aristocrats while they watched leisure sports such as Polo and Lawn tennis that nobody is really into these days outside of the monied Country club set.
Dre has come a long way from that skinny kid writing rhymes in a dank Southwest Atlanta dungeon to now being out of touch with his humble beginnings and designing clothes that no one in East Point would be caught dead in.
The premiere took place last Friday during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week kick-off. It was hosted by actress Charlize Theron and many celeb guests stopped by to see what Andre 3000 had in store.His Fall 08/ Spring 09 collection consists of 70 pieces inspired by college football documentaries of the 1930’s. When asked about referencing the 1930’s, he says, “You had rough guys who played football, but they were impeccably dressed. So now, if a guy wants to wash his face, they call him a metrosexual or whatever. So my thing is, cut all that out. People feel like just because you like to dress well … that don’t mean you’re gay! I don’t know where that came from! You know? It’s clothes!” (Source)

Good luck to him with his clothing line. Does he hate music now? Does he ever plan to put out another CD? I’d hate to see him waste that gift.

That’s what I am saying. I would much prefer to hear some of his MUSIC as talented as he is … when is the next OUTKAST album coming .. diamond and they deserved it, ould love to see it happen again.

Dre been on some other chit every since his relationship with Badu and she had him backstage at one of her concerts eating raw cabbage. I actually like the clothing line.

I so dig Dre………………and his line. I think it’s kinda fly. I wish men would clean up more. I get tired of seeing the same dirty, dusty, lint filled braids, du-rags, saggy jeans, Jordans, A1’s, white T’s, Timberland boots and Cincinnati’s fitted caps…….everytime I turn around.
I’m glad they enforce the dress codes at the clubs. That way the thugs can’t get in because they don’t own a nice button down shirt and a pair of decent Kenneth Cole hard bottom shoes.

Umm I wonder if the demographic the line is supposed to appeal to will actually purchase it. Are they ready to depart from Ralph Lauren, Lacoste, Burberry and the like to support this line? Barney bought some of his collection, so maybe he can count on the new hollywood set for revenue for now, but their attentuion span is worse than a two year olds. *shrug* best of luck to him, nothing wrong with diversifying your income sources.

Some of these comments are straight ignorant. If you don’t like the clothes, then fine, but to suggest that he isn’t black enough or gay because he doesn’t choose to wear **** that hangs off of him is the biggest load of BS ever.
Some of ya’ll do the same **** white people do and peg our own. When can black people finally be indiviuals and not seen as a whole?? My guess is never because god forbid a brother break the mold and not follow the herd.
If what he’s wearing is part of the line, it might as well be called ‘Plantation Gear’ because the shirt looks an awful lot like the Confederate flag and the suspenders and hat are NOT helping.
Some of the top peices look fine, on some Ralph Lauren, Purple Label vibe…like the jackets and vests, the varsity sweaters are doable…but the knickers?! I just can’t see ANYONE wearing that, besides Andre and Farnsworth Bentley. Oh, and maybe Kanye on one of his weird days. In any case, still love Andre!
