Just yesterday I received an email from a loyal reader asking me if I thought Kelly Rowland was a lesbon since she’s never seen out with a man. Well, I guess not.
Kelly and Eve were spotted out recently accompanied by men who may or may not be their boyfriends. It certainly looks that way though.
I can’t say I blame the ladies for stepping over to the other side where the grass looks greener. The current crop of available black men are a sorry lot indeed.
If they aren’t undercover fags, they’re creeping with your best friend, they can’t pull their pants up, smoke too much damn weed, refuse to get a job, or won’t pay their child support.
I know industry women right here in the A who stack plenty cheese but refuse to date brothas because they’re so triflin’.
We have to do better with raising our boys to be men.

This is the answer. I don’t care what n e one says but i believe the way a person turns out is fro how they were raised at home. yes, some cases are exceptional when a child does a whole 180, but if you raise that boy right he will turn into a fine young man.
And now and days we don’t need no father so don’t make that as an excuse, if you choose to lay day with a no good black/white guy, you face the consequences of your child not having a father. You just have to work harder to ensure YOUR child is raised right. Once babies stop having babies we can work on these problems.

I agree Lovely it is sad. But you attract people that are like you. So if they cant find good brothas then they need to evaluate themselves to see why they attract aint shyt brothas. Ladyrazor, I agree. You attract yourself. And I didn’t believe that with my husband because we are exact opposites personality-wise, but our values, goals and needs are just the same. There are good men out there, but like LovelyLady said, you have to look at yourself, what you want and your surroundings.

I think that everyone is correct with their statements. It’s always two sides to a story. I believe part of the problem is due to the focus places on rappers because women look at them as “accomplished” but they have bad behavior. The idea takes away from the good men who work regular job any salary range.
I also believe that Black women Raise Black Men and its up to the Black Women to instill values in thier young Black Boys. If the case is babies having babies then Grandma should help instill values but sometimes Grandma is still recaputuring her youth. The black family is in shambles and its going to take generations to close the gap of ignorance that surronds our race. The process will be long and slow. The problem with the black man is that he does not respect his woman and is very sloppy with his game. The white dude usually does his thing on the low unless he wants to get caught in the act. They have problems too what may look good on the outside is sick on the inside they hide it better for the family. I dont know which one is worse but it makes us as black females and males look bad to other people.

You took the words right out of my mouth. We have to evaluate ourselves as black women. We say we want a man that is sensitive, but quick to call him gay if he shows his emotional side. We say we want a strong black brother, but refuse to let him lead due to our independence. We say we want a brother with good credit and money in the bank but we don’t have A1 credit and some don’t even have a bank account. I’m just saying.

Girl I feel you. These brothas our out there. My husband and I are high school sweethearts. He is my best friend and we are so much alike it scares me..lol he knows things before I even say them. I’m 23yrs old and was blesed to find my better half at an early age. If you know yourself and understand you as a person then you would be able to separate the real from the fake man out here. I for one know what I want and I got him.

as a black man i am insulted, lord this this is a mess, but since 80% of black households are headed by single women, you should accuse black women of raising the men you choose to date. as i tell my niece, if you want man who wants nothing out of life then you are going to get nothing out of life. there are millions of black men on collage campus who are about living the good life pursue them. if i said the same thing about the crop of black women out here i’d get attitude and put in my place.

I for one agree that the pool of available dateable black men is shallow-would I date outside my race-no at least I haven’t and don’t see that changing anytime soon
but please don’t act like that this situation is only unique to some black women-I know many of you viewed the statistics of black women that marry 48% which very low compared to whites, and did any of you see “black in america” and they addressed this very same issue
my sisters, I don’t come on here to be contrary but if the situation was only about black women doing self-reflection or raising their standards of the men they date-trust me sisters would do just that…..
why is it that so many of us, blame sisters so quickly for their lack of baby daddies or husbands, and those of you who are “blessed” to have a good man, husband, baby daddy etc. keep it real it wouldn’t be considered rare if it were common right? So it’s obvious there is growing issue with black men and it’s easier for many of us to sleep at night if we place the blame on ourselves because we only have the power to change ourselves and it’s apparent we don’t want to look at the real issues with black men because we lack very little power or influence over them & they know hence they continue a long “as is” because they know many women will tolerate them and accept them just as they are-because of the so called black man crisis

I swear we as black women make too many excuses for black men. The ones that are successful in the eyes of the world know the worth, and they usually cheat and have jacked up attitudes cause they recognize there are a shortage of black men of their caliber.
The hustler/gang banger/thug/jail inmate wants to be accepted on the basis of his heart, and not on his deed..and he still considers himself a good man and will yell at you not to judge him.
The nerds with no style, no game, no fuc/kin nothing think they deserve a woman too, and yet don’t feel the woman should be shallow and be naturally attracted to them. Instead they feel like “so what i’m a nerd and ugly, i’m a good man.” Okay, but they need to raise their game a bit and meet the woman halfway…they know majority of black women are stylish and that shyt aint flying.
I can go on and on regarding this topic, but bottom line, i think black men make a bunch of excuses, and don’t try as hard as they can to be good men….The number that enter college is proportionately lower than many other races (damn shame in 2008), and even though some enter, they don’t graduate and stick it out.
Black women long ago raised the bar for ourselves…we understood no one was taking care of us, and we knew we would marginally be responsible for our households…that’s why so many of us enter and complete college no matter what obstacles come along; we have never been able to depend on the black man. Yet, we are the least revered in terms of women on the earth, especially by our own men. I think it’s a shame when white men or men of other races find more beauty in our race than we do…and though black women are now straying outside the color line, i have to say this, black men need to suck it up, cause yall started this shyt, dating all them white women.

Word up intense mocha! There are some women who date ir because of self hate issues. Not a good look.
His biggest test came when I went natural. I cut all my hair off. Left less than an inch of natural hair. He was worried but when he saw me he loved it. I am still natural. But longer. When I pressed it for an event last saturday he kept bugging me to wash it out and get my fro back. He loves that fro. The bigger the better in his eyes.
That’s when I knew he was on the level. Any man who can take a sister natural is worth keeping.
I did have a problem with interracial dating at first, but as I am trying to grow and make it to another place, I just realize we all are god’s children and if someone makes you happy then go for it. but i will say that their are good men in all colors and shapes and sizes I have uncle’s and grandfathers that were good men, and their are bad men just like in all cultures white woman, asian woman, chinese woman, italian women, all go thru the same things with men.I am almost thirty and I have learned a lot and one of those things being that, it is important not to go looking for men especially in the wrong places which is also huge. My kids go to a predominantly white school and now their liking the little white girls and I was mainly sending them their for a better education but now I had to realize that now i could be dealing with white girls, and trying to live a better life I had to just come to grips with everything, if the person treats you right then it shouldn’t matter what skin type they have, everybody is allowed happiness and preference, I prefer black men, and I would love for my kids to marry a black woman which i do talk to them about but not pressure them or make them think their doing something wrong. I do have a problem with people dating outside of the race and then dogging black men!
I understand what you sayin Seattle Slim cuz I know I would love regardless of color…If you look good and you treat me right, then it doesnt matter to me what color you are. But it also depends on where you are and what your surroundings are. In reality, my surroundings never allowed me the opportunity to date outside my race. For example, I went to an all black high school so I never had the chance to date outside my race. I have only dated black men but I wouldn’t rule out any other races AND I defintely wouldn’t put down the entire race of black men either. My last 2 relationships were with black men that were college educated and they always made sure I was taken care of (and to this day they still do)
So we need to be careful about putting down ALL black men just because we can’t seem to find the right one. If you’re preference is to date white men or spanish men then that’s fine, but it shouldnt be because you think all black men are bad or worthless.
I dont think anything is wrong with dating out of race. I’ve done it before. He moved and that’s when we parted ways. But still friends to this day. Do for my son just like it was his.

I have high standards and I won’t compromise them just to have a man. I like FINE and GOOD. I definitely prefer Black men, and haven’t strayed to the swirl yet, BUT I’m keeping my options open…in the meantime I’m comfortable being on my own.

Not sure where you’re at, but I’m in the A, and it seems like here there is much less diversity…it’s either Blacks, Whites, Asians or Mexicans…that’s it. I think if I lived somewhere like NY I would have been happily swirled by now! LOL!! I mean, where the fine Puerto Ricans at?! I could definitely get down with that! =) Very rare that I see any in these parts. Maybe some Italian…Spanish…hmmmm….

@purepisces I live in NYC and even though its a melting Pot the swirl rate is not high. Most cultures live in seprate sections of each borough. The “Hood” being made up of mostly Black and Hispanic.. Change is coming in Harlem more white people moving into the “hood” (buying Brown Stones). Spanish people generally don’t date black its never said out loud but they don’t want their daughter or sons dating black.

Really?! I’ve got a few folks that live up there who’ve been swirlin for a minute. I HAVE heard about the segregation in the boroughs though. At least there is SOME opportunity though, you just don’t seen all the colors of the racial rainbow here at all. That said, I do love the A!! I guess not for dating, but for the city itself. I just in my ignorance thought ATL was country due to the southern accent I have heard from visitors and co-workers who relocated. But, none the less I would love to visit to broaden my visions. LOL!! Yeah, folks like to get their party on around here, specially now with the huge music scene. Not to mention all the freakin strip clubs. Partying here is definitely different than NY in two main respects…NY is the city that never sleeps AND ya’ll have no smoking in bars. Within the Atlanta city limits, except for a few exceptions, clubs have a 2am shut down…WHICH SUCKS!! Plus I would KILL for the no smoking part, one of the major reasons I don’t go out much. I always end up stinking of weed, Black & Milds and cigarettes, and dehydrated as all hell…as soon as I get home have to put my clothes in a plastic bag or have a stanky apartment. Ick. I’ve been to NY several times and LOVE it, but can’t see living there…
Oh, and I don’t have a southern accent! I’m not actually from here, been here a long time though. Did pick up a bit of southern slang which my mom hates. =) Couldn’t help it!
Ok… Yes, NY has changed with the no smoking rules and yes I like that smoking has been banned. After 2 AM are there any after parties to attend? NY always has the spots that are open 24 hours for parting. I went to a few and did not know I was leaving at 4PM because it was so dark inside it still felt like 3am.
I really like being able to take the subway because if my car goes on the spritz I can get on the train and go anywhere at any time from any location.
I see pictures of the parties in ATL and they look like so much fun. I have to go

They like to party here, but it’s all getting so celebrity-driven. People ain’t tryin to come out and have a good time unless some celeb is there, then they just wanna stand around and pose for each other. There’s other places to party outside the city limits, usually to around 4am or later. Thing here is we’re so spread out, the metro area is huge. We have mass transit here too (MARTA) but it’s not near as extensive as the subway there, plus hardly anyone uses it. Here you really need a car, hard to get by without one.
I am originally from Sacramento (born and raised) but I have been living in Georgia for 4 years and I must say this isn’t a good dating State. The men are either married, DL, fake wanna-be’s, or feel like they don’t have to commit because the women out weigh the men. I was fortunate to meet a man another State and we have been doing pretty good. I get hit on by Mexican, White, Indian and Asian men but I can’t do it. I see plenty of black women with white men in the A but me personally I couldn’t do it.

I won’t say there aren’t any eligible good Black men here, but my standards rule out the ones I have met. Shyt, what do I know? I don’t anywhere to meet anyone, basically just work, home and the stores. Kinda hard to meet anyone that way!! =) I guess if I ever make having a mate a priority, I’ll have to step my game up!!

With all the damage already done within the Black community, the last thing we need is these ole double agents who really dont like BM or BW eventually getting with one and having Black babies. Cause Lord knows they end up raising more lil self haters…
But I have to relay something I’ve seen at least 5 times in the recent months, I’ve been out and about shopping and whatnot and ran across several bw with white dudes and I’m not fronting but in every instance these women couldn’t break their stares at your dude. Real talk, it’s like they see 6′3″ of chocolate and forget where they at!!! One dude was looking right at ole girl while she was staring at me and he wuddent too happy. I find it comical on many levels.
Man at the end of the day, yall all know God made man in his image, and the first man was in AFRICA = Black, so end game, all women are wired towards Black men. Hey I’m just stating fact, but anyways, all these IR folk can just keep it moving cause us real Black people have very serious work to do…
