In Georgia, political tees are prohibited at the polls (happy now?)

According to a Georgia statute regarding “electioneering”, it is prohibited to wear a political tee within 150 feet of a polling office. Happy now?
I clearly said in my earlier post that different states had different rules regarding this.
This is no big deal: if you choose to wear your Obama shirt when you go to the polls on Nov. 4, you may or may not have to turn your shirt inside out before casting your vote. The decision rests entirely with the individual poll workers manning the door and whether they are Obama supporters or not.
This has never been an issue in Georgia before — a few of my friends wore “Vote or Die” tees to the polls in 2004 without incident. This has only become an issue because the leading candidate is biracial.
Ironically, Barack Obama has no chance of winning Georgia anyway. Yesterday, a leading advertising network sent out an email to publishers requesting more impressions for Obama political ads for the month of October.
The email included a list of regions that Obama felt he could win. Georgia is not on that list. The states are listed as follows:
- North Dakota
- Iowa
- Montana
- New Mexico
- Nevada
- Colorado
- Indiana
- North Carolina
- Virginia
- Missouri
- Ohio
- Michigan
- Pennsylvania
- Florida

Why is a T-shirt so offensive. I mean really why?

Why is a black man so feared?

^ Well, for one, I can guarantee that is because #1, it’s Georgia’s history.I believe GA has somewhat always been a Rep. state.I believe whoever sent out those Obama Blue Day had to be a republican.
I think it is a big deal, when the consequence of wearing a particular shirt could result in being denied the right to vote; even if it’s only temporarily!! Vote or Die tee-shirts weren’t candidate specific, so I don’t think there can be a comparison. Lastly, I hope we can change the perceived outcome of GA; hopefully we can all get out there and Barack the vote!
Vote Obama 08!!
Good morning SR folks,
I don’t really care about this i just wanted to post.
You people in Georgia need a credible source, notice she didn’t include links to any reputable news sources.
Decisions like that do not rest with the poll workers. It’s either a law or it’s not. Poll workers do not have that kind of power, to tell people they can’t vote, based on the poll workers individual beliefs.
This is also not something new that has sprung up just because Obama is the candidate – rules like this have been in affect for years. You also can’t have signs within X amount of feet of a polling place, which is why in local elections (judges, etc…) I am solicited in the parking lot of my polling place by those running and not at the door to the polling location. Like BabySoft said, a “Vote or Die” shirt is not candidate specific.
And there is truth to this. A few years ago, we had to vote on whether the Cowboys stadium was ok to build in Arlington, TX. My husband, an extreme Cowboys fan, wore a Cowboys shirt to the poll and was not allowed to go in and vote – he had to go home and change or turn the shirt inside out. It was considered “campaigning” in favor of the new stadium, despite the fact that my husband is no politician.
Ok Sandra. You can not wear shirts that endorses a candidate or law. Wearing a shirt that states “Vote or Die” is not considered endorsing a candidate so you will be allowed to vote. You can wear any shirt as long as it does not have any name associated with a candidate on the ballot.
I agree with the above comments…Vote or Die is not saying anything other than Vote or you will Die. It does not say VOTE BARACK OR DIE.
Sidenote: What exactly is going on in the picture with Chris Tucker and that female? Her outfit is giving me some type of impression but I’m not sure what it is yet.
Chicago has a law similar ….you cannot wear a t shirt of any specific politican while voting….that is like telling voters who to vote for…..it’s a name for it as well….campaigners are not supposed to be standing in front of the voting places, handing out literature.
I think somebody’s in Georgia government is taking subliminal messaging too far with the “Vote or Die” tee….ask yourself….Whose face was at the front of that campaign with it first came out?
Sean Combs…..they are probably looking at it as an endorsement for Obama or something, thinking young voters will follow suit w/P. Diddy, or their favorite celeb wearing that shirt….like Chris Tucker…wasn’t he supposed to be coming out with a movie about him being the first black president?
typo, “when”
Whose face was at the front of that campaign with it first came out?
I live in Missouri and so far they’ve allowed electioneering at a distance of 25 feet from the outer entrance. ( Which I think is silly, I always already know who I’m voting for so someone giving me a pamphlet on a candidate at he voting site does nothing for me.) I’ve just been telling people that if they go to vote and feel they must wear a pin or shirt to just remove the item, take it off , turn it inside out or cover it up. Please don’t make a HUGE scene and end up getting arrested or doing something that will cause you to miss you chance to vote. If you feel you must “go off” please vote first and get an attitude later.
HOW ABOUT WE WEAR WHATEVER WE NORMALLY WEAR…..
GIMME A BREAK…
OBAMA 08
I CANT WAIT TO VOTE!!!!
I’m excited about this election. I plan on voting early October 16!
see Miss Sandra… you should have believed me!!
Did I not say this yesterday? Electioneering- I posted that word yesterday.
You stealing my sh!t, Sandra?
Anna black men are feared because it was stated long ago. They are the finest men in the world. Behold their beauty in all its glory.
I just want to put my arms around Chris Tucker……….and that crackhead that’s all up in his face.
What I wouldn’t do to be that crackhead in that picture.
Yeah I heart me some Chris Tucker in a major way!
The last time I went to the polls, I was told that we couldn’t wear anything that endorsed any candidates either, so I don’t think it has anything to do with him being biracial…..THIS TIME
Whatever!!!
OBAMA 08 BABY!!!!
I did notice that I haven’t seen any Obama messages down her on TV. All is see is that dam McOld and Palin ad’s. I know the KKK is mad down here in the south!!!!:)

I’m pretty sure Sandra knows this. She’s just being ignorant or trying to spark a discussion. As usual, it worked.
I need to see that email with the states Obama can win. Sounds like pure D BS to me, just because Illinois is not on that list. Obama is going to rock IL because he is from here, and we almost always vote Dem anyway.
