LL Cool J ‘stunned’ by low CD sales

Rap legend LL Cool J is reportedly ‘baffled’ and ‘stunned’ by the low sales of his latest musical offering titled Exit 13.

He is also said to be ‘shocked’ that Jessica Simpson’s album charted higher than his did. LL’s ’13’ came in at number 9 on the Billboard charts while Simpson’s debut country LP, Do You Know, entered the charts at #4.

“He is stunned. He simply can’t believe what’s happened,” a source tells British newspaper the News of the World.

He really shouldn’t be stunned … these young kids don’t want to hear them .. and only the old heads who are LL fans are buying his music …

i like LL and all but I’m not sure why he thought is album would be #1. no offense, but he’s been in the game for a minute so he should be grateful that he’s been able to last for what 3 decades or so. alot of rappers aren’t able to do that. but look at the bright side, at least he came in at #9. Cheri Dennis’ album came in at #50 something and barely sold any copies. so smile LL!!

Even though I don’t listen to half of the rap garbage that’s out today I honestly don’t recall LL album being promoted very well, I new he had a Cd about to drop but I didn’t hear or see a lot of publicity generated around him.

Sorry LL you’ve been in the game almost 20 years it’s time to give it up, move on and do something else and I mean someting else besides a freaking clothing line..Why do black celebrities keep investing in these whack ass clothing ventures instead of getting into real estate, construction, franchising or technology..That’s why Magic Johnson has been so successful he tapped into the franchising market TGY Friday’s, Starbucks, and movie theatures..It’s like all these rappers have a one track mind when it comes to making money outside of music.

@stefany – I don’t think it was promoted well either, I listened to it onine and its good … I don’t see me purchasing it for more than $10 though … I liked 6 songs … that wasn’t 70%

hmmmmm…..maybe he should have stuck with the album him and 50 did together. at least people would have brought it just to hear if he sound like 50, in which he didn’t wantto be labeled as sounding like 50. i don’t think he would of sound like 50, but may have had some of 50 aggressiveness in his music.

im sure it’s already been said, but he shouldn’t be surprised. no matter how many appearances you do on trl or 106 and park, the young bucks look at us like we’re their parents, so no, they’re not buyin ya cd.

i suggest ll and janet etc, stop blowing their budgets on marketing. you have a fan base. pocket that marketing money, do shows in small venues for your fan base and call it a day. ur not picking up any new fans. accept it. we have.

he missed the memo obviously. but hip hop is dead uncle L. it died a slow long death. it lingered for many years. but it is officially gone now. it is sad but we all have to move on.

It’s not that it wasn’t well promoted, it just wasn’t good. If people liked it, it would have had more rotation on the radio and they would have bought it. He needs to get over himself and stick to acting. . .do a Will Smith, LL!
