There are plenty of women, men & couples (however you want to put it) having babies that JUST DON'T NEED to be having them at the time they do. You have a slip-up, a mistake, ONE, okay. I had one myself just out of college at 25 (I am a man). It was NOT the best thing for me financially, and while I knew it before, I REALLY decided that it was NOT the time for me to be doing that. I needed to be building myself and my future, and I have had NO MORE since then. And however this or any other situation turns out, Obama being president isn't going to magically change anything. Like he himself already said, people need to stand up and take care of themselves - which basically means get off your a** and stop waiting on a check. One job ain't enough? GET TWO - I did....and now my FICO is 701.... Well, I might be in the minority, but I agree PAHairston. We all know that our laundry is washed in the media everyday. We know we head nearly every negative list ever compiled. Let's see: diabetes, obesity, heart problems, HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy, high school dropout, unemployment, I'm sure I left out a few maladies. Do I sound negative? Look around you. 400 killed in Chicago, not to mention DC, our nation's capital, once dubbed the murder capital of the world. My words can be ignored, these statistics can't. What I'm trying to say is we can control how many children we have and again, if you can afford them and want them, more power to you, have a church full of children, as Tupac once rapped. I'm probably older than most of you on this board, perhaps this is why my passions run so deep. I have one son and he's 21. I felt he didn't need his no-good Dad when I was raising him alone, but now he's full of hate and bitterness towards his father. He's a great young man but he feels he's missing something in life, a relationship with his dad and yes, I am also to blame. Many black women feel that they don't need a man to raise children and true, it can be done but that man will ALWAYS be their father, period. I remember back in the day, especially in the south, single women who had 3,4,5, babies usually had them by one man, thus the nucleus of the family was in tack. Today, some young women will have a man's baby and hardly know his last name. Then she's bitter 'cause he don't want nothing to do with the child and the end result, the child suffers. I know I'm making you all mad but I can't help it. I'll stand on my soapbox to the day I die, til Jesus takes me home shouting: Children don't ask to be born, it's the choices that we make in life. And believe it or not, this is all relative to this conversation. I'm outta here, I feel my blood pressure rising and is it worth it? Yes, for all the little beautiful, nappy-headed children of the world! Somebody gots to say it besides Bill Cosby. Peace.
