Reader’s Photo of the Day

Loyal reader Cyndie is still doing it up in NYC. You may recall Cyndie bumped into Kim Kardashian last week while shopping at the Christian Louboutin boutique at Barney’s.

Cyndie must be a celebrity magnet because she ran into Supermodel Chanel Imani just a few minutes ago while having lunch at the Blue Fin in Times Square. Cyndie said Chanel is the “baddest bitch on the runway” right now.

Chanel is allegedly dating Ryan Leslie who is the producer behind one-hit-wonder Cassie’s only hit.

Cyndie said she got a bite to eat at the Blue Finn after having her hair done by the Dominicans in Harlem for only $30. I told her that’s a great price because beauticians here in Atlanta charge a car note for that same service! :)

Chanel Iman is beautiful. She needs to reconsider Ryan Leslie, though!!! LOL!!! Cyndie’s hair is HOT!!!! The dominican salon here (Max Doobie Salon on Jimmy Carter) will do a doobie, dominican hot oil, and steam for $20!!! IT just takes all day but it’s definitely worth it!!!!! Your hair will feel like silk!

$18 at Muneca’s on Audobon & 172nd St in Washington Heights…$30 is outrageous. They smelled her out of town money coming…they cannot get that extra $12 from locals lol

@carmeldrop……… I’m in GA. What they do is deep condition or hot oil your hair and then sit you under this dryer that has steam coming out of it. When I left the salon, my hair was flowing in the wind. They use air heat- no curling irons. And the blow out lasts a while. Without the hot oil/deep condition, the cost is $10 short hair/ $15 long hair. …. reminds me I need to go visit them real soon :-)

all day is like 10am-3pm/4pm. Mostly under the dryer/ steamer. Trust me, though, it’s worth it. They don’t take appointments, it’s walk in only. And if you go on a Saturday, plan on spending your entire day there.

The salon at 4165 Jimmy Carter in Norcross. Here is their myspace http://www.myspace.com/maxsunisexdoobiesalon

    Candi Apple says:

Yeah, The deep conditioning and Hot oil treatments are good for the hair. Like Styrazzi said its an all day process. The salon I visit has special hair dryer for the process. Its like filled with water and it steams the hair while the conditoner or hot oil heats. Really nice.. Your hair will look healthy as all get out

    @ stylerazzi

Thank you sooo much. My hair is really long I think like (16 inches last check) but its damaged from flat ironing EVERYDAY. I grease it; i wrap it(sometimes) I keep my ends clipped; i wash it in egg once a month and I give myself a hot oil treatment before perms but i still have hella dead ends and breakage. I’m going to look for some of these Dominicans here in Dallas to get on these naps!

    stylerazzi says:

@carmeldrop…. good luck with finding them. it’s definitely worth it. they will trim your ends and with them only using air heat and rollers and not curling irons/flat irons, it should help your hair grow healthier!!!

Don’t know who Cyndi is, but at first quick glance, she looked like an extra Jackson sister.

Man, I want to get to ATL to check out Urbanella. We have some natural stylists here in Dallas, but I love the Urbanella website and what they seem to be able to do with curly/textured hair like mine. I’m sure they charge a grip though. lol

@ Caramel Drop – look on Craiglist – I’ve seen people offering blowouts for hair on there.

Well everyone knows in NYC roller sets from the mommies are 15 dollars and on Wednesdays the price is 12 dollars and that is for shoulder length hair. I use alto ego garlic hot oil deep conditioner on my daughter hair.(it does not smell like garlic and it works) It cost 10 dollars if you buy it from the mommies so i send niya with the jar i buy for about 30 dollars. And i tell her don’t forget my **** when she is finish getting her wrap done. Oh and don’t forget the hair pins they now charge 2 dollars if you use their stuff. So i went to the Chinese and got a pack of 100 large pins for 2 dollars. When she needs a touch up i send her with a jar of Affirm that cost 6 dollars that the chinese keeps behind the
counter like we are going to steal it. After niya got her hair done with it i see why they stash it that relaxer is the ****.
Hey is it me or do some of you guys notice that some of the Dominican salons don’t let you see the products they are using on your hair. everything is covered up or put in another container.

I heard they use a lot of cheap products and hide the labels and what not. I’m willing to give them broads a chance, though, for those prices. I wear my hair natural and I have to pay $65 to get my hair pressed…

CHANEL is no D-LISTER sweetie. You need to stop hating….. I’d rather be in NYC with Kim & Chanel than be here with you haters. Cyndi do you girl! I love to see a sistah doing it. I think she looks great good or bad hair day.

I have natural hair and have always been afraid to go to dominican salons. On the one hand, I hear they do great blow outs, on the other, Dominicans (and I am speaking generally) are not big fans of natural, non-curly hair. So, most people I know who rave about Dominicans have naturally straight or relaxed hair. I’ve never encountered people with natural hair going.

Anyone have a different view? I could be 100% wrong on this (and I hope I am!).

    crystal says:

The Dominicans hair can get just like ours. They use relaxers and rock a afro but you can not tell them they are not part black. They are right next door to Haiti so they range from medium light to dark brown in color. I get mistaken for Dominican all the time. Im like el don’t speako el espanol me dunno. Yo no dominicano they ask and i say hello no! I am part Indian not the alli babah bah kind but if i have any other mixture in me my mother got a lot of explaining to do!
