Barack Obama has yet to attend church since winning the election on Nov. 4.

On the three Sundays since his election, Obama has instead used his free time to get in workouts at a Chicago gym.

Asked about the president-elect's decision to not attend church, a transition aide noted that the Obamas valued their faith experience in Chicago but were concerned about the impact their large retinue may have on other parishioners.

"Because they have a great deal of respect for places of worship, they do not want to draw unwelcome or inappropriate attention to a church not used to the attention their attendance would draw," said the aide.

Both President-elect George W. Bush and President-elect Bill Clinton managed to attend church in the weeks after they were elected. Source

Rumor has it that Obama very rarely attended Rev. Wright's church either, which would explain why he never heard Wright make any controversial statements.

  • KaraZ

MZN, Imma need you not to drool over him, Michelle looks like she won't hesitate to cut someone...

I guess I better stop worshipping at bedside baptist lest I be mistaken for an atheist or worse...

  • carmelita79

i skip church because i refuse to listen to a MAN tell me that God said it is wrong for two people to get married of the same sex and that what they do is wrong but then sits there and tells me to love my neighbor has God loves ALL his children. thats why i skip. he hypocrisy is outrageous in church so i take my own Bible, read my Pslams and pray. does that make me any less of a christian? NO!

  • Mspeng

I can see the point of him not going. He is now in a different category than he was before. Imagine him showing up to sunday church. Unless it's a church with all celebrities, you're gonna have the people gawking, and asking for pics, and asking for autographs. Taking fully away from the service and it would be uncomfortable for all. Same reason Beyonce said she stopped going to church.

  • MZN

    lol @ Karaz...

Gotdamn that fine azz Obama! With respect to the first lady of course...

  • http://myspace.com/erikamagaly Hermosa

    @ blogger

OHHHHHHH, Imma go check President Obama out!

  • Fenix6376

ummmmm..... And? I idn't go to church Sunday either.. Oh well... Not going to church does not equal "going straight to hell". This is the most hilarious post today.. Whoo-hoo Sandra.. Keep the jokes coming.. its better than SNL on this blog!! ;-)

  • KaraZ

MZN, you can't say you weren't warned, protect ya neck.

I don't know why Sandrs stays acting brand new, he can't go most places anymore, he is the president elect with the most assasination threats to date and she still wants him taking unnecessary risks, when she knows good and well he can get the CD of the sermon like 5 mins after service ends.

  • KaraZ

Hermosa... Michelle will get you too.

  • terika83

I'm going to follow suit of some of the others from the other Obama post and say....no comment.

  • coaretained

So what? I skip church for laundry day and lounging. I prefer to do my worship at home and not around a bunch of people I really know nothing about.

    Next story puhlease...

    THE LORD KNOWS HIS HEART!....NEXT

  • stlbabygirl

What's your point...did he say I never miss church or something? Church is just a building you worship in, it does not define your relationship with GOD! I go because hearing the word feeds my soul and the choir singing heals my heart, but to each is own and that's why I never judge those that don't go!

  • hellava10

....going to the Church don't make/not make you a Christian. When 2 or more are gathered in His name.....let me stop. Hi peeps!

  • Oracle

    Your point is??????????

  • http://myspace.com/iyonah iyonah

What point were youtrying to make Sandra?

YOu totallydid not acheive it -it doesn'tmatter if you go ornot. How many faithfully attend and faithfully sin?

  • babysoft15

What does this man's religious dealing have to do with him being the President! Seriously....you really need to get out there and find some real news; stop reporting this non-sense! You were better off talking about Bey's shoes!!

  • BK2ATLMAN

haha, must be a slow gossip day, cause this was a waste of time typing this story and posting it...

I can just imagine them rolling up in church with a dozen secret service guys and snipers on the roof and personal assistants. Who could pay attention to The Word under those circumstances? Would the secret service guys get nervous when someone gets the Holy Ghost? Will Sister Hattie Mae get a cap bust in her ass for dancing in the isle too close to the First Family Elect? If/when they do decide to go to church they will have to have their own private section out of view of the rest of the congregation and the church would have to be hush hush about their attendance until after service is over. I don't blame them for not going.

  • http://myspace.com/thegameoncw Bird

Oh yeah, and Barack looks good as hell in that pic.

  • pointhimout

same bat channel, same bat time...they all saying the same thing anyway. "pay your tithes or burn in hell; let the church say amen." and ya know collection plates be flyin at you from every direction.

he can turn to any channel and hear church. hell, that's what i do, and dont feel bad when it goes off. i feel great, considering i still have all my money in my pocket....

@ Charles (#4 & 7) - Just curious, do you have an inside line with God on who is heaven/hellbound? If not, are you not trying to predict the future, which would also be a sin since no one knows the heart and mind of God? Wouldn't that make you a demon? Just curious?

@ Carmelita (#11)- I was just wondering if your Pastor asctually preaches that you should not love people who are in relationships with others of the same sex? I have heard that so many times, and even though I personally don't agree with same sex marriage or homosexuality in gerneral, I found myself arguing with the pastor about loving the sinner but hating the sin. I believe that God loves all of us all of the time, however he does not love everything that we do all of the time. We will all be judged on our own merits which include loving one another as we love ourselves, regardless of sexual orientation. ^5 to you for standing up for your beliefs!

My grandfather was a Methodist preacher and actually founded the chirch that me and my family are currently members of. I consider myself Christian, I believe strongly in God and I pray everyday, not at a certain time or ritualistically. I call on the Lord when I need Him,, no matter where I am, who I'm with, where I'm going, what I'm wearing, what I'm doing, etc. I believe that organized religion has become one of the biggest jokes of our time. I have actually not been to church since July. The last time I went I heard the pastor in a heated argument with a parishoner when we walked in the door. We had service and at fellowship meeting planned afterwards, we once again found ourselves greeting the pastor who was once again in a heated discussion with yet another longterm church member. It was thwn that I realized that I needed to seek a better way to approach my religion and still practice what has been instilled in me by biblical teachings. Now on our Sabbath, we prefer to spend it donating our times to charitable causes that we feel God would want us to do. We donate clothing to the homeless, read to the elderly, give our tithes to people we know are struggling to pay a bill or put food on the table. my children assist in making blankets to pass out to the homeless during the winter months, we have adopted families at Thanksgiving and Christmas and try our best to make it to shelters for battered women and homeless to make sure they have eaten before we open presents on Christmas or eat at Thanksgiving. We do this quietly, and for the love of God and our fellow man, not for accolades or reward. We know where our rewards lie. God and Christianity do not live in any certain building or with one group more so than another on any day of the week. True Christians know that the Lord lives in your heart and mind, and you must conduct yourself as such, not just on Saturdays or Sundays or whatever day you choose for worship, you must live it and make it a part of your everyday lifestyle. I may never set foot in the fashion show (our pastor actually put cards in the tithe envelopes telling us how we should dress, which would have made my grandpapa roll in his grave) building, that has fronted as a church for my family since the day I was born again, but I know in my heart that the Lord knows that I am trying to train up my children in the way that they should go, according to the commandments that he set out before me, and I do not believe that he will hold against me the fact that I did not follow the traditional idealistic forms of religion. We do not know what the Obamas do for the sake of others in the name of Christ, so I would say in this instance, judge not lest ye be judged. Look in the mirror and ask yourself if you are doing what God would want you to do. Are you working for the Lord, or for the almighty dollar which is the root of all evil? You really don't need a man to stand before you to tell you the word of God, get out the book and read it for yourself.

  • WeezysBaby

I was always told where few or more were gathered.. meaning he doesn't have to go to the building to have church Sandy.

  • ecstracy

(Stepping down off my soapbox with a bit of a feeling of satisfaction) I just get kinda heated when peolpe assume to know what others are doing in their private lives to serve God. No one knows what others are doing to serve Christ outside of going to church. Going to church does not make you a Christian, or a believer - it just gives others a perception that you are!
