Grieving Jennifer Hudson Won’t Sing at Inauguration
Well, we now know who won’t be singing at one of 10 “official” inauguration balls in D.C. come Jan. 20:
Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson won’t sing at Barack Obama’s inauguration, according to her rep who says the actress is still grieving the loss of her mother, brother and nephew.
American actress/singer Jennifer Hudson will not be singing at U.S. President-elect Barack Obama’s inauguration, says her representative.Rumours that the 27-year-old Hudson would be singing ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ at Obama’s inauguration have been dispelled by her representative.
“There is no truth to this,” Contactmusic quoted Hudson’s rep as saying. (LINK)
Stars who did receive an invite to perform at one of the special events in D.C. the week of the 20th include Rihanna, Stevie Wonder, Barbra Streisand, and Bruce Springsteen.
Other celebs who haven’t yet received invites are said to be unhappy. We still don’t know exactly which inauguration event Barack Obama will be attending. But we’re guessing it’s the one Rihanna will be performing at. (LINK)

I hope not. I wish she would use this as inspiration to blow us away on the beautiful song that is her life. But then again my mom is still here with me so I cant fathom.
I am sure she is honored she was considered. We all understand. I just hope who ever they get, they don’t say that “so and so” replaced Jennifer at the last minute. Whoever they choose will never compare to her voice for that song.
Wow this was a chance of a lifetime, but I definitely understand her decision. I hope things get better for her.

I think it is understandable that she needs time to heal. One is more than enough family members to lose and she lost 3 including her mother whom she was very tight with. Hopefully Hollywood and the music industry will still be there for her when she’s ready.

I dont think Jeezy was expecting to be there. I feel every lyric in that song so if it wasnt a good look, the truth hurts sometimes.
My heart goes out to her… I can only imagine how she feels, she will never heal from this, in my opinion. I spent New Years with my mom and each time I spend it with her, I just pray that we will be able to spend the next one together. But as MaryKay put it best “Life has many sad moments, but living must always go on”. Jennifer will always be in my prayers!!

@Heart God is awesome and powerful and he can heal a broken heart like nobody else. She will heal and recover. She will always miss her mother and loved ones but God can restore her.

awwwww jennifer…..:( i couldn’t imagine though…losing my mother, brother and nephew all at once. hell, it was a year that my grandma passed away last month and i’m still mourning her, so bless jennifer’s heart. time will heal all wounds though.

Nobody was ready for Whitney the day she sang the anthem in her warm up suit sweating like a fat pig but she stood there and deliverd like nobody’s business and nobody has out done her yet no matter how hard they may try.
Is she going to give up her career? I understand her lost but life must go on. The next tragedy will come along & people will be like Jennifer who? As hungry as ppl are to sing @ this event, I hope she’s not because it was rumored that Obama asked her and not because she actually turned him down.

Sorry Daisy she USED to sang. Maybe all the hollering damaged her vocal cords but her back up singers and pre-taped live performances hold her down these days. I loved her in her vision of love days, but Leona’s cords are still new and fresh. MC cant hang wit her now.

Just cause your a good singer don’t make you good for the Star Spangled Banner. The ENTIRE world will be watching this and some singers (like Patti) would go and make the song stretch for 30 minutes with all they dayum skatting and carrying on. Some would be up there doin those “I’m trying my best not to get happy/ catch the spirit” moves.

@ 44iscream… I agree. I can’t image how she feel and won’t even pretend to. But I too had my mother taken away from me while she was still young and without much notice. She was the ONLY stability that I had in this world. I know other people who have lost their child and parent in a house fire.
You have to at least try. If Jennifer was invited, she should do it for her mom, do it for herself, and do it for the others who are grieving along side her and need something good in their life right now.

daisy as much as i love mariah( some might say i am a bit of a stan lol) , i have to agree with alot of what keely said. back in the day mariah could cut the hell up, but now she’s barely holding those famous notes and singing LIVE like she’s known for. although i know she will never be able to sing like she did back then, i believe there is hope for her .if she just sang with the voice she has now and stopped trying to sing songs that are impossible for her to sing with the shape her voice is in she’d be ok.
the only thing that puzzles me is why so many people compare leona to mariah ( in her prime) when to me they sound so different.they kind of look alike , but that’s the only comparison i can make.
back to the topic. i am sad that j. hud won’t be performing , but i wish her the bestand i pray she is able to pull through this.
@Licia MC just sang on some Christmas special last mth and sounded just fine to me. Everybody is entitled to an off day here and there. I agree 1000% that Leona is NO MC no matter how ppl try to slice it.
daisy i agree she did alot better on that performance than on a couple before that . on toya’s world they have video of mariah singing hero and i actually like the new version even though she doesnt have the pipes she used to. she actually sang it in a way that was comfortable for the voice she has now. of course alot of her fans were PO’d because she doesn’t sound the same , but she sounded good to me. i would rather her try to sing it than punk out and lipsync all the time.
don’t get me wrong i think leona has a beautiful voice. better in time is my jam . she just doesn’t sound like the old mariah IMO.
