Obama Signs Controversial Executive Order

Late Friday afternoon POTUS Barack Obama signed an executive order sending hundreds of millions in federal dollars overseas to pay for foreign abortions (LINK).
In case you don’t know, an executive order signed by a president does not require the approval of Congress which is troubling to some.
Another troubling aspect of this is the way Obama signed the decree. According to a White House spokesman, Obama signed the executive order late Friday afternoon without any media present, and while no one was paying attention.
I am pro-abortion and I’m all for a woman’s right to choose. However, in this time of economic turmoil with Americans losing their homes and jobs, is it prudent for Obama to send millions overseas to pay for foreign abortions?
Maybe someone can answer this question for me: how does spending millions on foreign abortions help to stimulate this economy?

If I didn’t know any better I would think this blog has turned into the Obama website, it used to be fun logging into sandrarose, we already know what Obama is doing because everybody else is also reporting it.
As usual Sandra is not giving the whole story on her blog, but she has provided us with a link and I suggest that anyone who is actually interested in this read it. This whole thing was started by Ronald Reagan who didn’t want to give aid to the Agency for International Development because they offer abortion and abortion education in some countries. When Clinton came into office he struck down Reagan’s order. When Bush got into office he put it back into effect. Now Barack is just striking it down again. It’s no big deal. It is just a reflective of the fact that the GOP are mostly pro-life and Dems are pro-choice. It is not what Sandra is making it out to be.
@ Bird…
=============
THANK YOU DARLING!!!
^^ ty for clarification bird. i wasn’t sure i would get the FULL story from clicking on the link either. i guess i can go and read it .
Thank you Bird
Awww what happened to the Smileys Sandra??
Is Sandra a US citizen?
Thank you Bird!!!!
No Naima she is not a US citizen she is from London and does not have US citizenship, and thanks Bird for the full explanation. If you go to USAgov it will give you the actual executive order that he signed and it will be word for word.
thanks bird! i was too lazy to check myself!
@ Bird: no matter how you try to mask it, it still means sending millions in aide for abortions to foreign countries. I guess that’s more important than helping Americans stay in their homes.
@ Sandra
Is your problem with the millions that we’re sending over there or the abortions?
You should get your panties in a twist about the BILLIONS we send over to Israel.
I don’t know about you, I’m more irate about the billions we lose every year to Israel then the funding to the other countries regarding abortion.
Hmm…if Bush was against it, and banned, and supposedly that saved money (because it wasn’t going in foreign aid), then why are we in a deficit?
I understand Sandra’s view as well. But I would say overall it was the right thing to do.
The money is going to groups that teach various forms of reproductive health and abortion is included. I don’t see the problem.

EXACTLY — That’s why I asked her to provide the details of the document, I read the actual article and the bottom line is that it solidified the point SR was trying to make. Bird did her best at trying to summarize it for folk that won’t do their own research. Based on other articles there is indeed more to it then what SR put out — but as always she is not going to provide the facts just here slanted VIEW.
@Naima
No she is not a US citizen.
Oh now you want to hear our opinions!! I thought we weren’t allowed to comment when you have something to say about Obama!
Thanks to Bird for the clarification. Sandra, you act like they are spending millions to perform abortions, which is not the case. If Obama HADN’T reinstated the order, he’d be wrong for that in your eyes somehow. The man can’t win on this blog, so let’s just keep it to entertainment and shouting out brands (like LV) who could care less which black celeb with some new money is carrying their ish…
It was a good move on his part.
Also this is old news.
I have to look into this more. However, I don’t believe in abortion.
But it seems that he is giving them money to help their clinics and help educate them about health.
He is not giving money to have the abortions abroad, he giving money to international organizations that perform abortions here.
Hello All. Here is the complete executive order:
FOR
THE SECRETARY OF STATE
THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE UNITED STATES AGENCY FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
SUBJECT: Mexico City Policy and Assistance for Voluntary Population Planning
The Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 (22 U.S.C. 2151b(f)(1)), prohibits nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) that receive Federal funds from using those funds “to pay for the performance of abortions as a method of family planning, or to motivate or coerce any person to practice abortions.” The August 1984 announcement by President Reagan of what has become known as the “Mexico City Policy” directed the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to expand this limitation and withhold USAID funds from NGOs that use non-USAID funds to engage in a wide range of activities, including providing advice, counseling, or information regarding abortion, or lobbying a foreign government to legalize or make abortion available. The Mexico City Policy was in effect from 1985 until 1993, when it was rescinded by President Clinton. President George W. Bush reinstated the policy in 2001, implementing it through conditions in USAID grant awards, and subsequently extended the policy to “voluntary population planning” assistance provided by the Department of State.
These excessively broad conditions on grants and assistance awards are unwarranted. Moreover, they have undermined efforts to promote safe and effective voluntary family planning programs in foreign nations. Accordingly, I hereby revoke the Presidential memorandum of January 22, 2001, for the Administrator of USAID (Restoration of the Mexico City Policy), the Presidential memorandum of March 28, 2001, for the Administrator of USAID (Restoration of the Mexico City Policy), and the Presidential memorandum of August 29, 2003, for the Secretary of State (Assistance for Voluntary Population Planning). In addition, I direct the Secretary of State and the Administrator of USAID to take the following actions with respect to conditions in voluntary population planning assistance and USAID grants that were imposed pursuant to either the 2001 or 2003 memoranda and that are not required by the Foreign Assistance Act or any other law: (1) immediately waive such conditions in any current grants, and (2) notify current grantees, as soon as possible, that these conditions have been waived. I further direct that the Department of State and USAID immediately cease imposing these conditions in any future grants.
This memorandum is not intended to, and does not, create any right or benefit, substantive or procedural, enforceable at law or in equity by any party against the United States, its departments, agencies, or entities, its officers, employees, or agents, or any other person.
The Secretary of State is authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register.
BARACK OBAMA
THE WHITE HOUSE, January 23, 2009.
The truth of the matter is…there’s wide range genocide in those foreign countries and alot of the woman and children are raped by those militia forces in Africa, Ghana, Sudan, Darfur. They say…if you want to hide something from blacks, put it in a book because we don’t read and Sandra is proving that because she can post anything that’s not actually true and you got dummys that respond…geez ..read people do your research.
I have to say this…
Its WONDERFUL to see people not drinking the media’s “kool-aid”…and going out and getting the TRUTH themselves!!!
You know what…
I just realized something…
Since Auntie is posting story after bogus story regarding our President and keeping the comments off…and hardly NO entertainment news, per se…
The thrill I used to get coming here…has alas, faded away…
