Police: Adair Freeman Died For His Fake Diamond Chain
Police have released surveillance video images of a white pick up truck seen leaving the scene of a fatal shooting early Saturday morning.
19-year-old Adair Freeman was shot to death outside his father’s recording studio on Jan. 24 at 1:50 a.m. as he returned to the studio from a Shell gas station at 14th and Spring streets.
Surveillance video shows a white late model Chevrolet pickup truck with a black bed liner pull past the pumps at the Shell station and park in the shadows near a chain link fence separating the property from the adjoining Hot Beats studio where Freeman worked with his father, Russell Freeman. Police believe two men inside the pickup truck targeted Freeman while he was inside the convenience store and waited for him to walk by.
What got their attention was the fake diamond chain dangling around Freeman’s neck. Surveillance video from inside the convenience store shows Freeman totally iced out with fake bling on his neck, wrists and fingers.
This type of jewelry called “Hip Hop ice” was popularized by rappers in music videos and is favored by so-called “ballers” in the Hip-Hop community who use the flashy baubles to entice thirsty females.
The trouble is the jewelry also entices thieves who are too dumb to know the difference between authentic diamond jewelry and the fake stuff these kids wear.
Police say the truck’s driver exited the vehicle and robbed Freeman of his chain, shooting him twice in the chest. The driver then got back into the truck on the passenger side. Someone else drove the truck away from the crime scene.
The iced out chain the thieves stole was probably worth $50 tops. The teenager died with $90 still in his jeans pocket.

@ Daisy, that’s right. Regardless of whether the chain was real or not, it’s just senseless to kill someone over jewelry. Do something with your life so you can get your own. This is really sad.

Did they not have alittle common sense to see a young kid walking and not driving that maybe the chain was fake. We always want to know the reason why someone was killed, even after finding out we just get more upset at the stupidy and senselessness.

Terrible, terrible story. Sandra, you do a great job mixing in stories like this that go uncovered or under-covered (this story, the personal trainer, Oscar Grant, etc..)
I know that intersection well, and I notice that the yellow hummer in seen in the surveillance pics is ALWAYS parked at that gas station. That is such a wide-open, away from the hood corner, it makes you wary to go anywhere out here.
There is really a recession, and people are stooping to lowest common denominator in terms of what they will do to ANYONE.

what a shame. an innocent young man has lost his life over a fake azz chain….even if the chain was real, that’s still some bullsh*t. get a damn job and get your own isht. that just pisses me off….someone has lost their life because some idiot wants to take something that don’t belong to them. *smh*

I feel you on that…. One of my friends bought her sons a some J’s just last week (true story) 3 days went bye her 12 yr old & 14 yr old end up getting jack for there J’s at gun point bye these older teenage boys thank god my friend boys had sense of enough to just take them off and give it them w/o any hesitations I just thank god those fools didnt harm them at ALL….. Its a sad world we live in…

He didn’t die because of his alleged fake chain, he died because of some fake ass thugs. Why blame the victim? I saw a video of 2 young dudes beating up an old woman and taking her purse. She was iced out as well. Pearls for days…A look popularized by the golden girls. I guess we can blame Sophia Patrillo for that attack. I should be able to walk around in what ever I want to walk around in without fear as long as it’s legal. If a woman who’s dressed provocatively gets groped by strangers is it her fault? Please believe they’d still grope her ass if she were in sweats.

Its a shame that you can’t have anything without your own (black) people trying to kill you for it. They even try to steal your joy at times. I hate that we are so materialistic. You rarely hear of any other race stealing and killing over chains and sneakers. It seems that some people think that those objects are more valuable than life. I wish people would steal a book and try to improve/build themselves inwardly rather than stealing other people’s worldly possessions.
How do we know his chain was fake? Did the family say so, or is Sandra drawing her own forensic/investigative reports?

1. crack babies – poor brain development
2. baby formula (i.e. look what happened in China)
3. lack of prenatal care – poor brain development
4. learning all of the wrong things before learning the right things- poor brain development
5. poverty due to lack of education
6. no positive male role models
7. the never ending pursuit of wanting to be VIP or ballers perptuated by shows on MTV , BET etc.
8. bad diets i.e. fast food.
9. over stimulation from video games.
10. inferior DNA due to all of the above.
Are they excusable? Justifiable? Who knows?
