Hi Sandra. My name is Kim Morgan and I am a loyal reader of your site. On 1/23 I attempted to celebrate my 30th birthday with a party of 25 at Straits. It was awful! We were ignored and disrespected by the staff. The 4 course meal was stopped when we started to complain about the service. Would you have any information on who I would be able to talk to regrading my experience. I was never able to talk to a manager even after we repeatedly requested to speak to one. I went there to be supportive and because I am a fan of Ludacris. But honestly this was the worst experience I’ve ever had in a resturant.

Thank you

I wish these entertainers would just stick to entertaining and stop opening restaurants. The experience I had at JD’s Cafe and Justin’s was enough for me to rather have Chick-Fil-A then support another one of their establishments. They usually hire family and friends to run their businesses and they have NO experience in management. Sorry for your experience Kim, next time just go to Cheesecake Factory!

What is up with these celebs just opening businesses and expecting to make it solely on name recognition? I mean what is that? Either you need to know how to pull it out of your staff or your need to be able to recognize a manager that can do that. I really don’t see what the problem is. Luda need to handle his business, but if Diddy, JD, Jigga, Usher, etc is any indication he won’t.

I use to go to Justins all the time years ago and was always happy with my food and service. They use to have a FINE manager as well…lol I went to JDs place about a week before the closed and my food was ok.

lol..Justins..omg..in 2005 we came to atl for my bday..food was good until i saw a roach on the side of the wall looking at me like i was invading his space..we called a busboy over who at first tried to argue it wasn’t a roach but a waterbug..hold up..who cares, it’s still a damn big ass bug by my food..so then the manager comes over and asks if we would like to change our seats? I was like no, you ruined my bday, comp our meals and we’re out of here..all he could do was stammer..however i did bounce with the comp champaign…

I moved to ATL in 2003 with my teenage daughter so to make the transition a little less painful we went to Justins for dinner needless to say the food was TERRIBLE and the services was just as bad. Grandmom Jesse wings where slimy it was disgusting to say the least.

OMG!!! I thought I was the only one! My fiance and I went in for the first AND LAST time on a Sunday for brunch. Well when we arrived, walking in with another young couple and their son(about 1:30pm-brunch is over at 3pm), the restaurant was only about 1/3 full–quite empty. So naturally, we expect to get exceptional service, quick and friendly right? Wrong! We waited for about 20 minutes before the waitress came over to take our drink order. Then she had the nerve to look surprised when I was ready to order my entree. As if 20 minutes wasn’t enough, lol. Anyway, after we ordered (I had french toast with bacon and fresh fruit, my fiance ordered some type of steak medallions with hash browns and eggs) we waited. And waited. And waited. No waitress just waiting. She’s very visible by the way but manages to avoid eye contact. Not checking once to see if we were thirsty or to even offer an apology. It was as if my patronage to them was my privilege and not theirs. Wow! Keep in mind were still waiting. Finally the waitress comes over and with obvious reluctance she says “I’m sorry it’s taking so long….yada, yada, yada”. Still no food. Fifty (50) minutes later half of my meal arrives. My fiance has no complaints of course(like most men by this time he was just happy to be eating). Needless to say I was pissed. And just when I about to go off on the waitress and group of patrons leaving passes by a table of women who I had earlier overheard having very serious dialogue about the state of our youth, keeping them motivated and encouraged in the midst of much adversity, and so-on(I must say I was impressed with their rather positive topic of discussion-especially on a beautiful Sunday morning). OK, getting back to the story(true story keep in mind), one of the guys with the group of patrons recognized one of the ladies at the table. Just my luck it’s Ludacris’ mother. She was so pleasant to him. And after overhearing her with her friends all sitting there and knowing this was her son’s restaurant there was absolutely no way I could bring myself to raise my voice loud enough for them to hear me. I couldn’t embarrass her like that. So I did what anyone else who knows not to put someone’s mother on blast would do . I said nothing. Before we got ready to leave the manager (he was also behind the bar that day so I don’t know if he really was the manager or just a bartender relieving the manager) came over to the table, apologized for the inconvenience and comped our meal–the only bright side to this meal.

I went the restaurant that day ready and willing to support a man who’s endeavor’s, in my belief, will far surpass the fecal music industry. But of he believes this will happen, it has to start with getting the small things right. And giving good service is just too easy, there just too much competition out there to crap shoot.
The moral of this story is you don’t have to get all up in arms when you don’t like the service you get. Just don’t go back.

I’ve never knowingly been to any “celeb” endorsed resturant other than Glady’s & ron chicken and waffle .. the chicken was cold not criuspy .. like they fried it earler and letf it under heat lamps .. the greens were adequate .. and i’ve never been back … I make it a practice NOT to frequent those types of resturants .. i don’t need to say i’ve eaten there and seen this celeb or that celeb … i don’t want to line their pockets quite simply .. i can’t afford to drive what they drive droppin 100.00 on a less than stellar meal… i’d rather spend the 100.00 on groceries and ME !

Been there twice, both times adequate. The upstairs area is great for large groups. I know the former restaurant in that location failed though, as did Salt across the street.

Just evening out the criticiscm/accolade ratio.

This is too funny. I went to Justins a few years ago and was so impressed. The place was empty and the service still sucked. The waitress gave my friend and I one little cornbread muffin. I had to ask her were we supposed to share that. I ordered gumbo and it was red. I live in Houston, by way of Louisiana and I know good gumbo when I see it and tast it. Yucky!!!! That was not it. I was willing to fly in weekly and cook them real gumbo myself. I was so not impressed. So for the rest of my trip, I stuck to what I could have gotten here in Houston!

If service is poor, I just don’t go back. Luda don’t look like he washes his hands, so based on that alone, I wouldn’t go :-) Justins – LMAO!

Damn, when my boo and I talk about going out of town we always talk about hitting up a celeb’s place. Well you all have talked me out of it. I will stick to cheesecake factory as someone above suggested. I have eaten there before and I know they are good. I know that Emeril is not considered a celebrity as much as he is a chef, but has anyone ever had food from his place. I am going to Orlando this summer and boo and I want to hit it up.

I feel so bad, lol I was a waitress off and on in school and Black people are usually ignored. And that’s by Black staff too. It’s a pain in the ass serving Black people and when you go to certain environments where your lovely Brothers and Sisters have stung the staff over and over and over, you pay. Sad but true. In fact the servers including Black servers would go in the back and argue over who should take the table. We take a lot of energy and then don’t tip well.
