Rihanna Covers Hype Hair Magazine
Thursday, January 15, 2009

Loyal reader Takeisha sent this in. If I’m not mistaken, this is the first Hype Hair cover in a decade that features a subject with her real hair growing out of her scalp. Rihanna looks stunning as usual.

I agree…she looks hot like fiyah!
again .. what has she actually “DONE” to get on the blog today ? ? ? not a dayum thing .. Auntie u just needed your fix … lol
can i get a smiley that green from being sick …
lol
is all that green font done to match her eyes
Her lips look funny in this pic
features a subject with her real hair growing out of her scalp.
——————————–
all of them have had real hair. if not they would not have had anything to attach a weave to.
You SURE she don’t have any tracks in the middle to get fullness?
I’m just sayin….
I see she went and got her hair done for this photo shoot. Because her kitchen and sides have been looking ragady lately.
But really what has she done lately. She sucks singing. Oh, my bad she gave a cute poss and dress nice.
Whatever, we want people who can really sing. I refuse to buy any more CD’s of these non singing folks.
I thought we weren’t getting any Rihanna post unless she did something relevant???? Having a couple tracks in the top, that dont show aint relevant… Im jst saying
She’s such a pretty girl. Really striking.

I don’t know about that. You know they gluging hair to stocking caps these days. Nefe even got it done on an episode of Keyshia’s show.
I think her eyes are her best feature and she looks waaaay better with the short hair than she did with the long Beyoncesque weaves/lacefronts.
I am with you #7, I am glad her hair is done. IT’s been GAWD awful in these last few pictures Sandra has posted.
Chuuuuuuch Kym!
well……at least the perm TOOK this time. whew!
Hello All. Rihanna is such a beautiful, young girl. I knew she’d become a superstar when I first saw her video Umbrella: THE BOMB!!) I just pray she stays focused and doesn’t become a freak, say like Amy Winehouse or Lil Kim. (I love Amy’s music.) As for the hair, I can’t wait til black women get back on track and wear their hair naturally, like God gave us. Or even with a perm but why all this weave? Why do we so desperately want white folks hair? And many look like a hot mess. A friend of mine refers to it as HIB: Hair I Bought. Ain’t that a hoot.
Matter of fact, I can’t wait til a lot of things go out of style: women wearing clothes 3 sizes too small, men wearing clothes 3 sizes too big, men grabbing their privates and swearing in public, HIB, hip/hop/rap music, black on black crime, babies having babies, bad grammar, etc, etc, etc.
I’m just saying, I’m just saying, I’m just saying, for what it’s worth. (You’ll need to listen to Miss Pam, that’s me, cause I ain’t got nothing but love and good advice for you.)
@Pa I’m cosigning on everything. My hair is all natural, getting locks was the best thing that I could have ever done. My hair grew mediocre without them now its to the middle of my back in such a short time span…
@ PAhair serious question.
Are you this long winded in real life? It seems as if every post you are writing a book.
@ topic YAWN!
Do they still make word up & Rap magazines. Remember they would have the really big poster in the center of the magazine. Shoot do kids even still hang up posters?
ISCREAM, I am a writer, I write about social issues. My opinion has been published all over the world and in almost every major US newspaper, so I must have something to say. If I bore you, don’t read what it. It’s as simple as that. Peace.
I hate Rhianna’s lips! Ewww!
Correction: If I bore you, don’t read it.
@KC I have locs as well and was natural for about 2-3yrs before then. I am not knocking the perms but I doubt I ever get one again. I have never been into weaves.
To the Beyonce stans/fans IMO her hair was very cute in the bob in her me myself and I video. Her current weave is rarely on point as it should be for someone of her status again IMO.
As far as RiRi GET IT MA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hmmm…Can we get Hype Hair and Sophisticate’s to show more natural hairstyles? I am just saying… A lot of the hairstyles in their pages are regurgitated from past issues so how about some new ish. I want to see the latest naturals.
@Seattle that would be so nice. I am going to the salon today and need/want a fresh new cute do for my locs!
@ Seattle That would be nice, not that I get bored with my locs but I would love to see some innovative stuff1
@ Daisy I would NEVA GO back to a perm ever, my hair grows so much faster natural! and have fun at the salon! It’s time for me to redo mine!
@KC I rarely go to the salon but my neighbor can only do my hair on Sun and I didnt feel like doing it this go round plus I want it half up/half down so I can be cute in DC this weekend..lol
Don’t let the new do go to your head this weekend, lol. I told my husband that when my locs are done he has this look in his eyes that’s like I knew you were cute before but dizzzyaaaaaaaam! Lol, he denies it but everytime I talk about cutting them he starts getting indignant
@ PAhair I don’t know why you sound so upset. Nobody was trying to come @ you nor did I ask you to print your resume. I just asked a simple question.
I guess you don’t do simple which is the reason for the long winded post which I don’t read. Don’t get your panties in a crunch N munch.
LovePEACEandsoul…

I never go to salons because they cant’ do my hair any better than me. The last time I washed my dreads I asked my fiance to just cut them straight across for me. The are all uneven and I had said all along that I would start cutting an inch a year one they got long enough. He was afraid to cut them! Sometimes I braid my dreads when I wash them so they can be crinkley and he always says that they are so long it looks like my hair is fake, but we know the truth. I said, “baby, everyone can clearly see I have dreads.” He disagrees. That is because he likes them when they are crinkley, but right before they I do them he’s asking me to cut them off in favor of a permed style in lengths I can’t achieve without weave.
Anywho, you want your dreads done right come see Bird in Charlotte. I can color them, style them, whatever. I recently put highlights in mine and I love them even more!
PAHairston
Have you ever heard of Joel Randell?
Bird are those Locks in your pic? I didn’t notice until you pointed them out!!! Their pretty! If I visit my fam in Wadesboro I will look you up!!!! Lol By the way I always braid them after twisting because they do come out sooooo pretty that way!
RIHANNA IS A VERY PRETTY GIRL, YOU CAN’T TAKE THAT AWAY FROM HER. BUT UH SANDRA, SHE HAS TRACKS IN THE TOP OF HER HAIR, SORRY, SO ALL OF THAT ISN’T GROWING OUT OF HER ROOTS AS YOU THINK.
@Bird I guess you missed me say I rarely go to the salon..lol My neighbor hooks me up she does it all as well and I can do my own as I have done for the past 3mths im just lazy. I love wearing my locs curly and somebody taught me how to use foil to make homemade rods and I LOVE the way they come out. My arms get tired though..lol
@KC SHUT UP you dont know nothing bout Wadesboro..LOL
@ Bird I didn’t know you had locs.
Here in NY salons are a dime a dozen. Monday Tuesday & Wednesday you can get the special wash & set from 10 to 15 dollars depending on where you go. But I only let the Dominicans do it. Can’t fuc with the black ppl when it comes to a wash & set.
@ISC The A has Dominican salons on every corner as well now. There are two by house and a ton by my job. I have a few gfriends who are natural and they go for the blowouts. They swear by them.
Girllllll I lived down there growing up. My family last name is Jones if you run into some Jones’s or Simp or Uncle Chig that’s my fam, LOL. My grandma was chase out of Wadesboro because she was too outspoken. A white family that was friends with my Gmom’s mom told them to get her out of town cause they were going to lynch her so we got relocated to Philly but most of us are still down there! I’m past due for a darn gon visit!!!!! Are you from thereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee?!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am jealous as hell. I want locs! I just don’t have the patience. I cut my hair down low again and right now I’m planning on growing it out. No cutting just trims because I want locs in a few years.
@kcicero
WHAT??? That’s some stuff right there. Man, I bet your grandmother had stories to tell.
@KC My college roomate is from there. Her daddy works at Smiths funeral home..lol I am from Salisbury which is about 45min from Bird in Charlotte.
Oh and this just urked me, so I’m going to let it out. iScream, what you said to PAHairston was rude and inconsiderate. I am not sure if you guys have beef or whatever, but telling her she’s long winded for giving her opinion was churlish.
I hope nobody died/dies in the plane crash in NY. US airways flight went into the Hudson River.
Seattle it’s best just to ignore some of these hit and run posters who are just looking for a cyber spat…lol
Anyways, My grandmom may she rest in peace was THE TRUTH I knowwww I take after her thank god my daddy’s side gave me some sense or I don’t know where my mouth would have got me!
I think the whole of Raymond Rosen projects…prostitutes, crack heads and all were at her funeral…I mean cars for blocks long, standing room only and police escorts. I wish I was older when she was living I would have documented her life and put it in book form.
@ DAISY are you serious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh my god…headed to CNN catch yal later.
Thought you was done wit it, Sandra? (you get the side-eye for this one)
@KC Yes they broke in on my radio show and yes CNN has the story posted already. It was leaving NY headed to Charlotte.
Kcicero, your grandmother rocketh hard lol. Going to CNN myself!
@seattle lol yess, she did!
I just read about it, that’s crazy! I pray that all is okay and there was no kids involved!
There’s nothing wrong with wearing weaves, it’s a choice that women worldwide exercise. When I wear it in the summer time, I don’t buy that hair saying yes I want to look like a pink toe, I’m thinking I’m travelling 10 out 12 weekends what’s the best option for me.
I’ve worn my hair in every way, except locks which I will never do. When I wear it close cropped, it doesn’t mean I’m trying to be a man, so when I throw some tracks in there I’m not trying to be anything else. It’s just hair people.
i think that a piece in the front..
@Daisy..I was watching on MSN and I think everyone survived so far.
Good point KaraZ.
@ settleslim I was wrong for telling her, her opinion was wrong but you were right for telling me mine was?
@ kcicero hit and run poster? What is that? A poster who doesn’t work? Sorry I can’t sit here and comment every 2 mins. I’m actually @ work.
& as I said I wasn’t looking for a “cyber spat” I was asking a question. You all took it the wrong way. (I did say real question). Shoot I can say you are trying to cyber spar with me for speaking when I wasn’t addressing you.
When I skip over her post I think about my son who is longwinded.
So the three of you need to find someone else to come @.
KaraZ Says:

Same here. I am the hair queen! It just happens to be my gift from God. I hope he isn’t mad at me for not doing it for a living. For ten years I wanted to grow dreads, but didn’t want to go through the short stages. Finally I broke down and did it and just wore extensions over my dreads for 4 months until I felt they had gotten to an acceptable length in addition to actually locking. I love them and wouldn’t give them up for the world. When I want to rock a straight do I just braid up my 17 inch dreads and pin them up and throw on a wig. I will NEVER cut off my dreads.
iscream,
I think you may just be blunt like me. I actually hold my tongue on this blog because I know I can be offensive regardless of whether I think my question is offensive. Asking someone if they are always long winded is kinda rude. No offense. hehehehe
Hello All. Yes, I guess you could say I’m long winded. So that’s that. Bird, I’ve never heard of Joel Randall. Is he a writer?
Folks, I don’t mean you any harm. Matter of fact,I love people, especially younguns. Hell, you’re our future. I feel that God put me here to help people and that’s what I try to do, and I’m not just all mouth either. I’m a DC community activist and librarian also. So please folks, if you don’t agree with me, fine, but let’s not be rude or mean to each other. This is a great way to communicate and every now and then, I’ll speak my mind. And in the future, I’ll try not to be so long winded. Peace.
@PAHairston, I like when you comment. You can’t please everybody, trust me I know that toooooooo well. lol
@Bird, are you a writer? If so, I think we may have something in common.
One last thing. Being called long winded ain’t so bad. Hell, someone on here once told me to STFU. Man, can you imagine saying this to someone’s face? Boy, someone would surely be losing some weave. LOL I’m just saying……
@PA, don’t take it too personal.
You write about social issues, so I’m sure this blog gives you much insight on people’s egos and interactions, etc.
@ PAhair I really wasn’t trying to be rude I was just curious.
I’m cool & @ work reading off of my small azz sidekick screeb. & to be honest I just read that you r an activist. So I apologize if I offended you. I just met someone at a Kwanza gathering n I heard how hard it is to fight for anything in DC. You gots my respect.
Rih Rih is looking fierce!
RiRi looks really nice in that picture.
Rhi looks cute!
PAHairston,
Yes Joel is a journalist based in New York. He was recently featured in Essence magazine (google Joel Randell Essence). I think it was in the one with Mo’Nique on the cover or the Obama cover right before or after that one. Anywho, he is my little brother. I’m ridiculously proud of him. If you check out the Essesnce article online and want to comment be sure to tell him I sent ya.
Amulet,
I like to think of myself as an untrained writer which is why I love to blog about life on MySpace. Writing just runs in my family. We are an artistic bunch. My mother was also an avid writer. As I stated above my gorgeous younger brother is a Rutgers educated journalist and my other brother is an amateur poet. We are just driven to write……and talk. Very opinionated lot.
