Officer Suspended For Emailing Obama Mugshots

An Iowa State trooper was suspended for 30 days for emailing mugshots showing petty criminals wearing Barack Obama t-shirts.
Let me emphasize that the officer was off duty and in the privacy of his own home when he emailed the popular photos to friends.
What is this world coming to when a man can’t share a joke with his buddies without losing his right to support himself and his family?
The full story is here.

I would expect an officer of the law to conduct him or herself in a professional manner at all times. I think he should have been suspended for his actions. Police officers as well as officers of the courts and others in “public trust” positions are held to a higher standard.

they are on duty all the time and doesnt it violate the alleged criminals rights and policy(ies) of the Police Force.
Because he is our president, is why. Anytime you are insulting the Commander in Chief, you should be punished. I have a feeling that there are going to be bloggers that will soon suffer the same fate, and this is good
I read that so wrong. I thought he got suspended because he emailed them to our President.
Ehhh, how is this different from people losing theor jobs over their myspace/facebook profiles?
Hello all. Since we now have a black man in the White House, it’s past time for all to show the utmost respect for this man and to all hard-working, decent black citizens. Recently in the DC area, some folks sprayed a church with : Obama the ni@@er. This should NOT be tolerated, period. Some dictionaries describe this word as one of the most offensive in the English language. (Why oh why do we use it so much?) I know it’s free speech but it’s time to put a cap on it.
Let me go one further. Considering the history of this great country, the KKK, the oldest domestic terrorist organization in the nation, and all-white juries for blacks should have been out-lawed decades ago. I’m just saying, for what it’s worth.
Love you guys! Peace.
I wish they woulda’ had on ANY t-shirt other than the Obama shirts…~hanging my head in shame~ YOu know THEY are laughing at us behind this mess.
I also wanna know why the one in the middle, 2nd row, looks like an old ass Trick Daddy?????
Oh my God, not today. This is the pettiest ish I heard all day.I’m over it.
Umm, the article said he violated department policy,Sandra, so his being at home and off-duty apparently didn’t matter.
Read between the lines – he was probably making some off remarks in the e-mail and he got in trouble and suspended. As he should have.
Why is this worthy of a posting? Oh, because they have on Obama shirts and it’s another way for you to take shots at him.
basically, you cannot go around using official police business/property (mug shots) for personal business. that seems like a violation.
He used WORK PRODUCT outside of work. That’s inappropriate. Po’ thang. You keep marinating in your hate. mkai?

This was on a different site. They make it seem like all the ppl with the t shirts on got caught in the same sting. These are mug shots from various police stations. This police officer did what he did on his own time. He did not take it from where he worked at. It’s public info. anyway. Did he conduct himself in such a matter that warranted disapline, yes. He is an officer whether on duty or off and used poor judgement. How many ppl have Myspace or Facebook pages that they would not want their employer to see for fear of dumb pics that they took? There was a woman firefigher who posed in a bikini, a pic was taken and she lost her job. I guess women are not to be sexy on their own time.
Why did he have mugshots on his home computer? He obviously emailed them to his personal email from work, which is the problem.
