Obama EBONY Cover Largest Selling in Magazine History
EBONY magazine announced today that its January 2009 issue, featuring President Barack Obama, reached the highest sales in the magazine’s 67-year history. With newsstand sales topping 405,000 — more than double an average month — the issue was in high demand at retailers across the country and timed just after his election. This issue featured President Obama’s first and exclusive print interview and photo shoot after his Nov. 4 victory. The exclusive interview served as the centerpiece of the special collector’s edition, which chronicled the rise of Barack Obama to the most powerful position in the
world.
The commemorative issue, now available online, also offered readers never-before-seen photos, insightful commentaries from all age groups and President Obama, in his own words. And subscribers received the special edition with a first-ever gold EBONY logo.
“The magnitude of President Obama’s historic victory demanded that EBONY magazine pay tribute to such an achievement with a commemorative issue. Our mission for over six decades has been to tell our stories like no one else can,” said Linda Johnson Rice, chairman and CEO of Johnson Publishing Company, Inc., based in Chicago.

Roberto Alomar Has a New Girlfriend, Says He’s in Good Health
Former baseball star Roberto Alomar released a statement to ESPN calling allegations made against him by his former live-in girlfriend “a bunch of lies”.
llya Dall filed a $15 million lawsuit claiming Alomar exposed her and her children to the HIV virus.
“This is a very private, personal matter and I greatly appreciate all the support I have received in the past few days from my family, friends and colleagues in baseball,” the former all-star second baseman said in a statement late yesterday, first reported by ESPN.com. “I am in very good health and I ask that you respect my privacy during this time.” [LINK]
Alomar didn’t confirm or deny his HIV status in his statement.

Chris Brown Still Working
According to Life & Style magazine, Chris Brown is still getting gigs despite his reputation as a woman beater:
Melvin James, the director and writer of Caramel, in which Chris will star, tells Life & Style, “Chris’ current situation hasn’t had any effect on things in terms of the film. We’re still planning on working with him.
“We’re still in pre-production, but we’re looking to shoot around September. We got pushed back a little bit because of other projects. [LINK]
We’ll see how long that lasts before the film’s investor’s cave in to pressure and forces the film’s producer to drop Chris from the cast.
Since we’re on the subject of Chris: I spoke with someone close to T.I. who told me T.I. reached out to Rihanna and Chris out of concern for both — but Rihanna didn’t answer her phone.
I’m told T.I. grew close to Chris on the set of his new film Bone Deep, produced by Grand Hustle Films.
Chris plays T.I.’s little brother in the film, and T.I. still views him as a little brother off the set.
Bone Deep is still in production and is scheduled for a 2010 release.
New York Post Duped Again By Blog
Some people never learn.
You would think that a mainstream media outlet like The New York Post would do some fact checking before quoting or taking stories from a certain blog that is notorious for fabricates stories.
But we already know that the MSM takes their info from blogs — which they end up having to retract, so why are we surprised?
Well, The NY Post just got burned again. This time with that fake Chris Brown “message” on what was obviously a fake Facebook page. [LINK]
I read this story on the NY Post yesterday and I just shook my head and laughed.
Any fool could see it was a fake page. Why would Chris Brown create a page using all three names (first, middle and last) and then make it private?
A source close to Chris Brown tells Usmagazine.com that the singer hasn’t been updating his Facebook status with messages about Rihanna.
Reports surfaced in the New York Post that Brown — who was arrested last Sunday after allegedly assaulting Rihanna — wrote “You’ll begin to see her true colors. Believe it!”
But the source tells Us: “Due to the dubious nature of the Facebook page, I don’t know how anybody would believe this. Of course Chris did not comment himself and this is not his Facebook page.
“A little research shows that there are tons of Chris imposters on both Myspace and Facebook and none of them are Chris, including this one,” continues the source.
Research? What’s that? Lol.
What Really happened To Tameka Foster?
People magazine has more details on what happened to Usher’s wife Tameka Foster-Raymond during a botched liposuction operation last week in Sao Paula, Brazil. [LINK]
According to Ellen Dasptry, a rep for Sao Paulo plastic surgeon Dr. Silvio Sterman, who was to perform the liposuction procedure, Tameka went into cardiac arrest shortly after going under anesthesia.
According to Dasptry, the liposuction procedure was not performed. After going into cardiac and respiratory arrest, Tameka was revived with CPR, and transferred to ICU where she was placed in a medically induced coma for 24 hours.
It’s obvious that certain information is being left out. Maybe because there is a lawsuit waiting in the wings?
Putting a patient into a deep (no brain activity) coma just so the patient can rest from a heart attack seems a little extreme.
A more likely scenario would be if Tameka had difficulty awakening from the anesthesia or she suffered seizures coming out of the anesthesia. It’s rare, but it happens.
So to protect her brain from injury, doctors would induce a deep coma to slow the brain activity and allow the brain to rest.
Again, I’m just guessing.
But that would explain why a neurosurgeon (brain specialist) was flown from LA to Brazil to evaluate Tameka.
