I didn’t know that the toys packaged in Happy Meals were collectible items. Dang, people will collect anything. As many Happy Meals as we consume, we could all be rich!

From the Daily Mail:

An 11-year-old boy was more than $11,500 richer today after his collection of memorabilia from fast food chain McDonald’s went under the hammer.

Luke Underwood’s massive collection of 7,000 promotional items is believed to be the largest of its kind in the UK and attracted bidders from all over the world.

The rare Mcmemorabilia featured the only known complete set of the 101 Dalmations in their original bags, as well as hundreds of Happy Meal boxes, toys and posters.

Last night bidders from across the world battled for parts of the 5,000-piece coveted collection – believed to be the largest of its kind in the UK – in a sale at Unique Auctions in Lincoln.

I didn’t really want to sell it but now I’m planning on saving the money so I can buy something else like this and make some more money,” he said.

‘I want to be a businessman when I’m older. I like going to car boot sales with my dad and buying things then selling them for more.”

Luke persuaded his father Philip to buy the assortment of toys, posters and boxes, dating from 1990 to 1999, from another collector when he was seven for just $350.

But the family decided it was time to sell the items after the collection began taking over their home with boxes in the loft, bedroom, landing and half the lounge.

‘It was all over the house – the front room, the kitchen and the landing,’ said father Philip.
