Celebs Out & About

Songstress Mary J Blige, left, and rap legend-turned-actress Queen Latifah attended a private dinner for the new group Electrik Red somewhere in NYC last night. Don’t they look beautiful?

These two still together? Christina Milian and her prop The Dream attended a private dinner for Electrik Red somewhere in NYC last night.

I see your girl Christina is still getting some publicity mileage out of that bottle of bleach dye and that package of Yaki.

This is the new group Electrik Red. I guess the label felt they had to stick a sista in the group to make them legit. I’m not impressed. These chicks look like every other packaged female group already out. Clearly they were manufactured for their looks vs. their talent. Not feeling them at all. NEXT!

The lead singer of the punk/rock group The Noisettes is a lovely black female. Her name is Shingai Shoniwa, which is an Asian name. She doesn’t look at all like she’s Asian to me. But then neither does Ne-Yo who is also part Korean.
UPDATE: According to loyal reader Tatenda, Shingai is originally of Zimbabwean descent.

Everybody’s favorite Socialite Kim Kardashian and her prop Reggie Bush were spotted at that boring Denver Nuggets vs. LA Lakers game at the Staples Center yesterday. We were beginning to wonder if they were still together. LOVE the Chanel bag and the Christian Louboutin booties. No one can say Miss Kim isn’t all the way up on her style game!

I LOVE THE NOISETTES!!! LOVE THEM LOVE THEM!!! (uhhhmmm…Ne-Yo part Korean…GTFO!!!)…PLEASE…Black folks KILL me with that…I mean didn’t we learn ANYTHING from Rae Dawn Chong with that b.s.
I just RECENTLY saw the Ray-J/Kim tape (SIGH)…Kim IS a lovely young lady and I will leave it at that…since I’m not a Black high salaried male athlete…I couldn’t BEGIN to comprehend THESE types of situations…
All jokes aside….ISE TIRED OF MARY’S HAIR!!!
And Christina couldn’t do betta than THAT with the color and the weave?!?!? I mean…COME ON!!!
Go mary and queen the both look lovely, I like c.milli too, the girl group IDK havent heard their music…I mean is it cold in LA.??
Mary looks young and fresh in that photo…a smile does wonders for her skin.
Elecktric Red who?…….please.
Christina I used to really did your style, but you hooked of wit Tighty (as in shirts) last name Smallz (as in jackets) and ALL dat shyt just went out Da wIndAh. You are headed for the f-list babe, ya betta call Dre up at least he kept you Dope Gurl Fresh!
Kim’s outfit…is okay, but not the usual.
I stopped watching the game when they let da Lakers get a 9-10 point lead. I was hoping the Nuggets would pull a rabbit out of their azzez by the time I turned back…..what kinda coach lets a point guard shoot 4-5 bricks straight without benching him for a couple of minutes??
Hey sandra, just thought I would pass along that I just looked up Shingai Shoniwa, and she is actually of Zimbabwean heritage and her name comes from the African Shona language, not any Asian culture. Have a good one!
I LOVE Eletrik Red’s single! Refreshing real music IMO.
MJB looks very nice that’s the longest she has kept the same hairstyle in awhile.
TEAM KIM! I see you MA!
That Mary N La photo is beautiful. Two old school Queens holding it down. I believe La hooked Mary up with Kendu. I know he worked for her.
Christina. I like the look. The outfit is throwback. I remember that shirt from back in da day. Drop an album then drop the dream and then live out yours.
Kim K… NEXT
The rest of these people I never heard of.
@Ice that would be correct he was working with Queen and that is how he met MJB. You are indeed a certified MJB stan..lol
@Ice I forgot to ask you if you saw Gotti this week?
christina and dream make a good couple.
All the men Sandra calls gay and she’s never said a damn thing about that Dream. LOOK AT HIM!! Just drippin with the homo juice lol.
You are crazy Sandra, Shingai can also be an African name LOL. But its a good thing you posted her. You should post more black alternative artists and not those D List local rappers you always post.
I can’t stand Christina’s hair…especially with her roots sprouting out. UUGGHHH!
I love the short style on Mary. Chritina on the other hand needs to hit up her stylist ASAP.
Queen is fabulous as always.
K & R are a cute couple (her face looks lighter than a pair of speedos – lay off the botox!) but she needs to chill with all that hinting about getting engaged..black men hate to be rushed LOL.
@ Coa Coa comment 10 some things don’t need to be said. Don’t you remember he had that gift wrap shirt on. Ho-Mo! A w w w how he doing.
@ Daisy No (arms folded like a child) I did not. I set it to record for Saturday @ like 2 am. Stupid DVR didn’t record it.
@ Shauny if you’re out there girl and you remember try to watch 30 rock tonight.
mary and kang latifah look purdy.
(QUESTION: is there sucha thing as a purdy kang? idk.)

**(miranda priestley voice…) “that’ll be all…”
i still can’t get with christina and dream being a couple….but i still feel that way about nick and mariah too so, oh well.
reggie bush is soooo fine….corny, but fine!
KIM K getting wide….
Actually Ne-Yo looks totally mixed with Korean. Makes so much sense now.
Christina bugs me. Such a pretty girl doing nothing. I still say she should stick with acting.
Of course Love Mary and Queen.
Sandra you have some seriously color issues.
MARYYYYYY LOOKS SO GOOD AND FULFILLED!!! I’ve been loving that look on her…
What is that scarf doing around the Dreams ankle? If he wants to effectively rock the fitted look, he needs to lose a few. His clothes just look too small.
Electrik Red….why did I think that damn song was Ray J? LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO….
Reggie if you dont take them Vans off…right the eff now!
Shingai Shoniwa is an African name in this case – not Asian. The singer is of Zimbabwean descent. Shoniwa originates in Southern African and can be found among indigenous (or indigenous descended) people of Botswana, Zimbabwe and South Africa. Her first name, Shingai means ‘perseverance’ in the Southern African (Zimbabwean) Shona language.
However there are many African words that are spelled similar, or the same as, many Asian words like ‘Songhai’:
In African it’s-
1) An ancient African Empire in the Sahel region in Africa, 2) The name of a tribe in that region for which the Empire was named After
3) An indigenous Nigerian language. Also spelled Songhai, or Songai.
In Asia it’s-
1) Used as a first (given name),
2) it’s also used as an alternate spelling.
There are, in fact, hundreds of words/names like this in African and Asian languages and dialects. Some of which actually have similar, or the same, meanings as it’s identically spelled counterpart.
There is a Kenyan-American professor/scholar who wrote a book about this phenomenon; I can’t think of his name at the moment.
Ne-yo is part Chinese, something like 1/4 (a grandparent).
taking back my comment about Ne-yo…
@ 10 Funny he always looks how you doin
@ 15
I was trying to figure out what dream looks like and it is the d@mn Teddy Rupxin doll. LMFAO!!!
Mary & La do look really nice.
WTF is up with my boy the Dream and his gangsta shoe?? Still hatin the blonde – but hey I aint wearing that foolish looking ish.
I can see the Asian in Ne-Yo (the eyes) but not ole girl here. Maybe her mother just liked the name.
**********************
Ne-Yo was born on October 18, 1982 in Arkansas hometown of Camden, and baptized by the name Shaffer Chimere Smith.[1] His father is African American and his mother is of mixed African American and Chinese American descent
musicluvher i told cha! he look like he bout to bust out with…”hi! i’m teddy ruxpin!” any dayum minute!
@candycane:
thanks for confirming. I could have sworn that I read Ne-yo was part Chinese in a magazine interview, but wasn’t willing to go look the article up to double check that. However, I thought he was originally from North Carolina.
