Bill Cosby ‘Shocked’ At Obama’s Statement About Cop
The fallout continues: Comedian Bill Cosby has weighed in on the remarks made by Barack Obama at the conclusion of last night’s televised presser from the White House.
“I’ve heard about five different reports [on the details of the arrest]. If I’m the president of the United States, I don’t care how much pressure people want to put on it about race, I’m keeping my mouth shut,” said Cosby in an interview on Boston’s WZLX.
Obama deliberately waited to call on Chicago Sun Times’ Washington bureau chief Lynn Sweet last because he obviously knew she would ask him a question about the arrest of his friend Henry Louis Gates, Jr., a distinguished Harvard University professor.
Prior to that question, most of the reporters’ questions focused on Obama’s disastrous health care reform bill.
Sgt. James Crowley arrested professor Gates last week for disorderly conduct. Obama said the Cambridge police reacted “stupidly” in arresting his friend who refused the officer’s request for ID to prove he owned the home he couldn’t unlock the front door to.
Gates, who was returning from a trip to China, couldn’t unlock his front door because he’d jammed his key in the lock.
Sgt. Crowley — the police academy expert on racial profiling — responded to Gates’ home to investigate a report of a break-in.

Bill Clinton was President and I believe he discussed driving while black and other racial matters. The President can talk to latino’s about immigration and the Jews about Isreal but he can’t ever speak on race relations in this country GTFOH! He is the President of the ENTIRE good ole US of A and that included BLACK folk last time I checked.

Gates isn’t as popular as he may have believed. I think emotions were just high and he too has to look back on this and just say “had i shown my id, this would’ve never happened.” clearly, had you not lost your key or whatever the case was, we wouldn’t be talking about this. just admit when you’re wrong or over-reacted; it’s ok. Good thing for Gates is most people will now know his name and stop referring to him as that black guy that be hosting those african american shows on pbs.

LIES LIES LIES he showed BOTH his drivers license and Harvard ID and per his lawyer the police report states that he showed proof that it was indeed his house.
@pointhimout, Gates is very recognized among academic circles, I doubt he’s seeking fame now or over. If you notice he’s basically been mum on the incident.

Hello All. I’ve read many accounts of what happened and not one of them stated that Professor Gates got physical or cursed at the police officer so what, what, what was the F*U*C*K*I*N*G crime, in his house, his home, in America. That said, HE SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ARRESTED IN HIS OWN HOME, PERIOD!
I have no problem with what the President said the police did act stupidly plain and simple

im Team obama I voted and repect my prez and again I dont agree with his choice of words… I cant stand the police either and i have read several accounts of the incident including the actual police report (CNN) 1. Race shouldnt have been part if the issue. 2. the cries about him being ‘arrested in own home’ are moot as well. no he wasnt breaking in but he, according to report was being disorderly to a officer..therefore the cop had a right to arrest him
im not a FOX watcher or a rebuplican etc etc but my opinion stands… the professor got all out of pocket and handled the situation poorly and accusing the cop thats doing his job of racism

he wasnt arrested for breaking in his home it was no break in… according to report he would not let man do his job and wanted to cry foul, race or other wise and was acting disorderly. point blank. the IDs dont matter that being his house dont matter all that is out the window, he was, alledgedly, displaying disorderly conduct to a officer of law, and ignoring repeated commands to calm down…
I know why he was arrested but my point is it shouldn’t have gotten that far once they knew he lived there that should have been the end

I’m shocked he’s shocked. I guess he wants President Obama to be a good negro and shut the hell up on racial issues. Racial profiling is real and prevelant. Low income black and latino people take it in stride for the most part, but Dr. Gates reacted to it exactly how I would expect an affluent, educated black man to and so did the President. It’s a very sensitive issue for black men. I don’t care that white people don’t get that. That cop knew exactly what was going on and I don’t care if Dr. Gates went on and on and on, he should not have been arrested.
#28 which is my understanding. when first asked, he did not just show id. the incident escalated and he then showed id. yall know the cops get offended if you say anything back, yell, or whatever. believe me, i’m no advocate of any cops. we get the short end of the stick in so many situations. this isn’t one of them. again, it’s ridiculous. just admit emotions got involved and things got outta hand really fast.
