Mariah Carey apologizes for dreadful “Memorial” performance

Mariah Carey took to her Twitter account yesterday to apologize for her dreadful rendition of the Jackson 5 classic “I’ll Be There” with Trey Lorenz.

Dreadful is an understatement. Carey was absolutely horrible. She was subpar as she stumbled and faltered from the opening note. Even Trey’s soaring high notes couldn’t save her.

“Trying to sing today was basically impossible for me. I could barely keep myself from crying,” Mariah later Tweeted.

“I’m sorry that I wasn’t able to pull it together and really do it right, but I was literally choked up when I saw him there in front of me….One thing I know is, we will never really have to say goodbye to MJ. His legacy lives on through his music and the millions of people he inspired with his timeless music. He will be forever in our hearts.”

only sandra. i didn’t think she sounded her best, but I just chalked it up to her losing her natural singing ability circa 2000. She gets points for efforts. Sandra something tells me u wouldve been sitting in the stands with ur MAC, still tryna blog with one hand and snap pictures with the other.

the whole world was shaken up in some form. Im surprised anybody could get up there and speak. well, u know uncle Al is never at a loss for words….

No biggie, its over now, she did her best…and thats all that matters. At least she performed, there are many who did not, that I certainly expected to. Overall the memorial service was great and she shouldn’t apologize, she should just be honored she was asked to attend and perform for him anyway. Like I said Michael really was a hero in many ways thru his music. How the hell do you bury and sing for Superman without shedding a single tear?

It’s understandable…we couldn’t expect people, even celebrities to still be able to keep to the best at this time. It was a very moving moment. I personally don’t think she sounded bad…hell Stevie cracked a bit a few times, but who am I to complain…MJ FOREVER!!!

I am not holding MC responsible for being emotional. In watching the re run it looked like she was the first to sing. First or last who would not be chocked up?

yeah she can still sing but u can tell from the first opening notes she was trying hard to not cry so even though it wasnt the greatest i think seeing that casket messed up a lot of folks like even usher bust out crying when he really saw that casket

Wow, she has hella excuses. All the performers were under the exact same pressure, including the little kid that sang. The problem is Mariah is a studio artist. We have never heard her hit all those high notes live and nowadays she’s barely hitting them on her records. I’m beginning to wonder if she is a closet smoker. I have always thought she was a poser and it was proven yesterday. She shouldn’t have accepted the gig in the first place.

I do think she is making excuses for a few bad notes. Which is actually bringing herself bad press. I haven’t really heard any news outlets saying how horrible she was. It was about MJ stop trying to make it about MC2.

@Daisy…if you are in the fan club… (yes I am a grown A woman in a fan club…been in it for YEARS, so is my 8 year old) whenever she has a concert, you get backstage passes to hang with her. I think that is the deal with most offices, you have to request them tho, but, whenever she’s on tour, at least once a year I see her. I got invited to the Unplugged taping but couldn’t make that one. She did fondle my son when he was in my belly tho! Ha!

Hello All. I’ve been away and missed the Rose family, which I’m only a part-time member or perhaps, not a member at all, just a visitor? Anyhoo, Mariah, whom I usually have high praises for her singing abilities, was way too busy trying to show off the 20carat ring on her right hand. She sounded so bad, I had to leave the room. Other than that, a service to remember. Around the world, his fans should be mighty proud. RIP MJ and now, let the chips fall where they may ’cause the truth can’t hide always. Peace.

Mariah is a smoker, when she first started the record executes were trying to get her to stop I think at one point she did stop smoking and when she was married to Tommy Motola he tried to make her stop smoking but of course he was controlling her at that time, but I think she is a closet smoker also, her voice change drastically over the years, and even thought MC can sing I still think she cannot sing like the “vision of love” days. Oh wells

Man…I skipped Essence this year for the first time in forever cause I hated the line up…I was hot. Next year better be good…I felt like a part of me was missing. And yes, AK better be there next year. She need to get on that new album!

I’ll have to take your word for it. I have never been a Mariah fan. Too much air in her vocals for my taste even when she had the ability to hit those falsetto notes. What I do know is the last few times I’ve heard her live she was horrible. Just my opinion which truly doesn’t count because I have never given her a dime of my money. As long as her fans are buying it that’s all that counts.

Okay, since it is out there. Mariah’s voice sounded like someone taking his/her nails and scratching down a black board. She has never been one of my favorites. I only like one of her songs and I can’t remember which one. She is definitely overrated. I rather hear Queen Latifah sing than Mariah. And believe me, I am no fan of Queen Latifah’s singing.

not to mention she owns most if not all of her own publishing rights and she is a song writer. so she is skrait forever and should just retire if…
a.) the throak surg takes away some of her octaves or

Lol, this chic chokes everytime she has to sing live! I’ve been saying that for years, she just cant do it! Ive never been a fan of hers. She needs to take notes from Jennifer who did a great job,who was under more pressure than her. Teach her how to sing Jen!

Marih is full of it…I’m not exactly sure when she lost it..But she no longer can sing live..She just doesn’t sound good out of the studio..Look back at any of her performances where she has sounded good and you will notice it’s a track…Check out ANY live vocal performance in the last few years and she sounds just like she did yesterday..A mess.
