Obama Addresses The Cambridge Police Controversy

Barack Obama addressed the controversy surrounding his remarks about the Cambridge police force in an impromptu press conference today.

In his usual stuttering, hesitating speech — and without the aid of his teleprompter — Obama explained why he felt the need to stick his nose into a local case — and turn it into a national maelstrom.

The end was cute. Must be nice to be able to hold a press conference to try and clear the air. Now we can all have a great weekend. I know some of you were going to continue to fret over it. LOL.

I didn’t think he should of commented on it to be honest. But the prof was his friend, so i understand, he must of stepped out his president shoes for a bit. But if he hadn’t said something…..some folks would of went afta him for it. But he did…but i like the way he clear the air

Double ditto. I think that it would have been ok for him to say I don’t have a comment until I get more info. I too do understand that it was a personal friend. No need to cry over “spilt milk”, what’s done is done and yes the air was cleared.
Off topic:. In my first comment about Michelle cutting her hair. I was right. She pinned it up. (her stylist did). I did state that looking at pics on other sites it did look like she cut it. My Bad. This is one of those “always go with your first “gut” moments. Not trying to seem mean but Michelle clearly in the pic had a “living rooom” going on, and that is why I did not believe it was a wig. For those who wonder what the hell a Living Room is, it’s the front of the house that is not “our kitchen”. LOL. 5 4 3 2 1. “Let The Insults Begin”. If I say I love you guys will you be more nice than naughty towards me? I love Michelle and my sis in law looks like Michelle, my sis in law is smart, educated and I told my brother that he found a “diamond in the ruff” ( We his sisters know that she is the one who found a rough man and turned him back in to the “Teddy Bear that we knew growing up) He better appreciate her. I will also add that they remind us of Carry and Doug from “King of Queens”. They keep us laughing and all amused. If you can’t fight right and have fun doing it, what’s the point my sis-in-law and brother have not just shown us with their actions but it works for them and I love a good laugh. Plus they love to entertain us with keeping it “simple”.

The President had all the info. When he said he didnt have all the facts he was refering to IF it was a case of racial profiling. I don’t have a problem with him speaking on his friends situation or racial profiling. The cop was wrong to arrest Prof. Gates and like Roland Martin said if he wasn’t then the charges would NOT have been dropped. Maybe the Prof. did go off on the cops so what it was his house and he had already provided ID that he lived there. The cop was pissed IMO cause he was asked for his name and badge # so the Prof could file a complaint.

Glad the Pres. tried to make nice and set up a meeting with everybody. Bush never apologized for being wrong(although I dont feel the Pres was in this case) about anything and didn’t give a damn who got mad at him yet Sandra wants me to believe President Obama is a narcissist(sp) yeah right mmmkay.

I’m not a Obama supporter…… HOWEVER, I wish he wouldn’t apologize so much. Especially, in this case when he was right. What’s done is done…and it will not be forgotten that Obama is a Black man (bi-racial won’t cut it now) who spoke in defense of his race.

As fas as the Black cop who supported the White cop…his opinion doesn’t count…he’s got to work on that police force and Obama isn’t there to watch his back.

I agree with you about him apologizing. He does it way too much for my liking.

I was watching cnn or what of those news networks. And one of the things they work talking about was how Obama seems to be unpopular or people becoming become uncomfortable when he, obama, starts talking race. Whether it was the election or now. That really stuck me, cuz i rmemeber hearing it during the election. He will remain popular if race doesn’t become and issue blah blah…and things like that. Racism is real. I don’t know why people are so damn afraid of talking about it. I’ve never heard a black person say that talking about race makes the comfortable. Never. Whyte folks need to realize this shyt is real…and it needs to be talked about. I don’t care who’s comfortable and who’s not comfortable talking about. Not talking about doesn’t make it go away. Ignoring it doesn’t make it go away.

If obama still with all his education, and personal success was just a normal citizen…he could be pulled over for nothing just like alot of black men. People can all him biracial all u want, when most people see him, whether black or white, they see a black man.

Sandra, can we have a post on “Black In America 2”? Chris Rocks wife “rocks”. I am not a fan/stan or hater of Ms. O’ Brien(sp) but the show had much meaning. I am not sure why the guy she is talking to has the “shoe polished” hair look, but the show is a “must see”.

That black chick cop IS a Cambridge Police Office so of course she will back them up because it is HER JOB. So most likely they ask her to speak out on it! Her opinion doesn’t count. Racism is very much alive in America and really the only thing that has changed is that it can’t be done blatantly so it is undercover now. Tim Wise author of White Like Me. Made so many valid points. He as a white man said that they have been conditioned to think a certain way.

If I was Gates and like any other Black Man would have went off on the cop because a white woman calls the cops because she thinks somebody breaks in to the house which belongs to me. Obama said what he said “The police acted supidly, because he said that the cop was acting that way after they knew it was his house”. If that was a white man, it would NEVER happened! simple and plain.

I can’t tell you how many times I have been pulled over on some bogus sh!t. Matter of fact the last time was 4 months ago. I was pulled over because the cop simply ran my tag he had NO reason, No nothing because I wasn’t speeding, I wasn’t doing anything wrong but yet I got pulled over because I drove a nice car and the only thing he could get me for was I didn’t update my address on my license. So what if I don’t want to, it could be for my safety, what if I get pick pocket and now they know where I live.!
