Whitney Bows At #1 With 300K

I Look To You, Whitney Houston’s first new Arista/RMG studio album of original material in seven years, debuts at #1 on this week’s HITS sales chart, with a total topping 300k. Her last album (aside from a 2003 Christmas release), Just Whitney, debuted at #9 with 205k back in 2002.
Hollywood’s Miley Cyrus, last week’s #2 after her Wal-Mart exclusive album, The Time of Our Lives, went on sale before release date, remains in the same spot, with a total of 162k, a whopping 154% increase, thanks to the runaway smash, “Party in the U.S.A.”
Atlantic R&B smoothie Trey Songz is the week’s other Top 5 debut, nestling in at #3 with 136k for Ready, while Epic’s Chevelle (#7) and J/RMG’s Pitbull (#8) are the other Top 10 newcomers.
Epic’s late superstar Michael Jackson continues to hold down a pair of Top 10 slots, with Number Ones at #4 and Thriller at #9, the latter up another 59%.

On Sunday night, actor, singer, and radio host Jamie Foxx hosted a party at the legendary Velvet Room just outside of Atlanta.
While trying to enjoy my mini vacay on an outward island on Labor Day, my cell phone kept blowing up with folks inquiring about rumors that Jamie Foxx’s sister was barred from entering his party at the Velvet Room.
I made one phone call and found out the source of the rumor was the owner of the Y B Factual blog, who never gets her facts straight. Her post — which was full of lies — was picked up by other unsuspecting blogs, and that’s how rumors get started.
So, I went back to sipping my Daiquiri on the beach, but you know how people are: if there are no pictures, it didn’t happen. So here are pictures of Jamie Foxx and his sister at the Velvet Room on Sunday night. Happy now?

Now Obama Wants To Tax Sodas
Despite a flood of protests, Barack Hussein Obama is considering asking Congress to levy a 18% ‘sin tax’ on the soda you drink.
In an interview with Men’s Health magazine released Monday, Obama said the tax would be worth it if it helps to fight obesity among children in this country.
“It’s an idea that we should be exploring,” said Obama. “There’s no doubt that our kids drink way too much soda. And every study that’s been done about obesity shows that there is as high a correlation between increased soda consumption and obesity as just about anything else.”
Obama is considering the sin tax as a way to help cover the costs of health care reform which is expected to take a $1 trillion dollar chunk out of the federal deficit.
By comparison, Canadian citizens have access to free heath care but at a high price. Canadians each pay $3,800 a year more in taxes to cover their health care.
The population of Canada is 33 million, while the U.S. population is over 300 million. Even with the tax increase on sodas and other sugary beverages, Americans would have to consume tons of sodas to cover health care for 300 million Americans. Not to mention the 15 million or so illegal aliens who will also take advantage of free health care.
While Obama acknowledges that his sin tax on sodas smacks of social engineering, he doesn’t much care:
“Look, people’s attitude is that they don’t necessarily want Big Brother telling them what to eat or drink, and I understand that,” Obama said.
“It is true, though, that if you wanted to make a big impact on people’s health in this country, reducing things like soda consumption would be helpful.”
Tyra Banks’ Real Hair Reveal
The moment we all waited for finally arrived yesterday when talk show host Tyra Banks unveiled her real hair. Tyra walked out onstage during the opening minutes of her 5th season premiere show wearing her relaxed hair wet and straight back.
After explaining she’s worn wigs, weaves, and clip ons since she was 17 years old, Tyra invited 15 audience members to come onstage and do a track test to feel for tracks.
Moments after her new season premiered, the social micro-bloggin network Twitter.com lit up with tweets accusing Tyra of having relaxer in her hair. I don’t recall Tyra saying she was going natural. All she said was she would reveal her real hair, hence the title “Real Hair Day.”
