Vogue ‘Blackface’ Photos Spark Outrage
A Vogue fashion photographer’s photo shoot of two white models in blackface has drawn criticism and outrage from critics who say the photos expose the racist underbelly of the fashion industry.
Personally, I don’t see what the big deal is. I wouldn’t have classified these women as black per se based on their classic Caucasoid features. But that’s besides the point. The photos are artsy and classy.
At least the chicks aren’t jumping rope with baboons like Naomi Campbell was doing in a recent fashion photo spread. Where’s the outrage about that?
This type of shoot is typical of Vogue magazine’s past attempts to increase readership through controversial subject themes.
The Daily Beast’s Elizabeth Gates says white models in blackface is nothing new. Still, Gates, who is black, compares the Paris Vogue spread to “a modern minstrel show”:
“I would be fooling myself if I thought the draftsmen behind fashion’s most beautiful things were ever going to be sensitive to race, black women, or how they represent our cultural history. In fact, I’m not exactly sure why this was a shock to anyone.” Elle’s Anne Slowey admits, “It’s an industry filled with people who have no idea about history and politics.” Read more…

artistist versus distasteful…I guess it’s a matter of preference. Blackface becoming more acceptable to Blacks and actually being called art. Imagine that.
They wanted the caucasion features with dark brown skin. I don’t find the photos offensive but it won’t make me buy Vogue either. Next time use black models.

It’s evident that they did not want the features of a real black woman. I think the pictures are beautiful and the messege I get is “black is beautiful”.

NEW YORK (AP) — One of America’s wealthiest men was among six hedge fund managers and corporate executives arrested Friday in a hedge fund insider trading case that authorities say generated more than $25 million in illegal profits and was a wake-up call for Wall Street.
Raj Rajaratnam, a portfolio manager for Galleon Group, a hedge fund with up to $7 billion in assets under management, was accused of conspiring with others to use insider information to trade securities in several publicly traded companies, including Google Inc.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Douglas F. Eaton set bail at $100 million to be secured by $20 million in collateral despite a request by prosecutors to deny bail. He also ordered Rajaratnam, who has both U.S. and Sri Lankan citizenship, to stay within 110 miles of New York City.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara told a news conference it was the largest hedge fund case ever prosecuted and marked the first use of court-authorized wiretaps to capture conversations by suspects in an insider trading case.
He said the case should cause financial professionals considering insider trades in the future to wonder whether law enforcement is listening.
“Greed is not good,” Bharara said. “This case should be a wake-up call for Wall Street.”

God is sooooo good. You have no idea how much that means to me at this very moment in my life. I created a facebook page to try and promote my book to “family & friends” and I PM’ed a so called “friend” and instead of responding she put up a comment something along the lines of “funny how people know you when they want something from you, smh” WOW I responded on her comment I couldn’t have said it better myself followed by deleting her from my page and life. Since going through my trials and tribulation these past months, I realized who my friends are. I cussed out so many people (including family members) and cut them out of my life since July 3rd is isn’t even funny. Now, folks will have to earn the title of “friend”. I popular Gospel singer had reached out to me to possibly represent her. Well, her manager had my number. We spoke. I told her my fee (which was very cheap). Instead of calling me, she sent me a note on Facebook that she won’t need my services. WTF?? She did not call me or email at my personal email address. She sent me a note over Facebook. I was done. But I am standing my ground. No more pro bono. I give to the needy not the greedy. Folk’s azzes will have to pay. Period.

Did anyone else see that story about the drug traffickers shooting down a police helicopter in Rio? They’re shooting down helicopters yall! They say it went down 5 miles from where some of the events will take place and that the fighting is horrible and right in the mix of both the World Cup and Olymic spots.This is the norm there and they’ve been fighting it for years.
Hmmm, last time I checked the thugs in Chicago couldn’t shoot down no damn helicopters. Good luck in Rio.

Rio fortifies streets after deadly shootout

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (CNN) — Some 2,000 police officers patrolled the streets of Rio de Janeiro Sunday after a bloody confrontation between rival drug gangs and authorities that killed 14 over the weekend, including two police officers.
Two suspected drug traffickers were killed and four were arrested in Sunday’s operations by Rio de Janeiro’s military police, the official news agency Agencia Brasil reported.
But the atmosphere in general appeared calm in the slum known Morro dos Macacos in northern Rio, where the day before crossfire between two gangs left 12 dead, including two police officers who died when their helicopter was shot out of the sky. Residents had also set eight buses on fire during the clashes in an attempt to divert the attention of police.
“This was truly one of the worst incidents of this type,” one local resident told CNN en Español, who declined to give his name for fear of his safety. “It was like a scene from a real war. It was like the world would end, lots of bullets, lots of noise.”
The violence comes two weeks after Rio, Brazil’s second largest city, celebrated winning the 2016 Olympic Games.
