Some time ago, we busted up a few cliques in the comments and deleted the worst offenders who then went down the road to hurl rocks at us from someone else’s yard. It was all good. For a while things were quiet around here.
But now it seems the cliques have formed again with new ringleaders. My regular readers are noticing a disturbing trend.

I know there are a million folks who can replace anyone who decides to never come back, but what rings out to me is the respect that posters should show for YOUR business. The support, respect, and appreciation for being able to post a blog on your site should be kept in mind at all times. That is YOUR blog, and sometimes I feel people get a little carried away when they lash out at other posters because of what they don’t know or like/dislike.
But here are some examples;

Ok first of all there are no cliques sandra why entertain that foolishness the only reason I said this is because twice I have seen random commenters with no avatars who pop up and say they know or are stans of whoever and then disappear all of a sudden and im confused as to who or why???

o.k here’s my .02. I’m with Nichelle and a few others who said that some people came out of the woodwork straight disrespecting people on here. Name calling, labeling, etc. We use to be able to argue on here without name calling one day and it would be back to normal the next. That is no longer the case. People keep their little beefs and name calling going on and on. There are also poster who ONLY come on when there is a topic that they know beef will occur (such as this one) to make little remarks hoping that someone will bite.
I lurked for months before Sandra let me in way back when so I was here when the original banning happened and when Charles was banned twice.
I’ve been on here for a minute and I can count on 1 hand how many times I’ve gotten into it with someone and like I said even when we do at the end of the day it’s a blog and we’re cool the next day. I don’t come on here to argue, I come on here for fun. I think that’s how it’s supposed to be.
What defines a clique exactly? I know I’m a woman who holds her own weight BUT I also know that I talk to other posters on here on a daily because they’re on here ON A DAILY. Am I in a clique?
A clique IMO is when someone is going at it with someone other posters are all ganging up on this other person. I haven’t seen that since Mullet

I think that you have certain types of posters on EVERY blog. You have the “occasional” posters. You have the “loud mouths”, you have the ones that feel COMPELLED to comment on EVERY single post, you have the ones that will disagree with you just for the sake of disagreeing. Fact of the matter is, these different personalities exist in REAL LIFE as well…that’s just life.

Sooner or later , I knew this was coming.
When I first started commentin, I did think the commentors were “cliquish” that old to the “kona” irked my nerves. It doesn’t mean in any way that it impacted me posting. I continued on with my .02,Bey stanning & typos. You think I would really stop visiting or not posting because of another? If anything “work” and the actual post will prevent a comment, but never a person TYPING the same as me. I recall being on the Melo/Lala post round the time he was locked up and people were playing teams. HOWEVER, it in no way caused me to leave the site. I came here via MissInfo and I log in from NJ daily and if I miss a day, I make it up the next day. The one thing I respect about you SR is that you interact with your readers and you allow a colorful rainbow of people to comment. Eliminating Charles is taking the red from the rainbow SR, the comments he & karaz made were not that bad. Trust me … if you refer to other post, they were at a 2 on a 10 scale.

I’ve been a member since January. I’ve always noticed cliques. Initially, I wasn’t bothered because it was all in fun. A few months ago, it seemed like more of the comments became mean-spirited. There’s a difference between being hard on someone and just being mean.

I don’t know if I would be considered new. I’ve been a member for a few years. I just don’t post that often. I have lately because I have a little more time on my hands. Anywho, I come to find people are starting to get too sensitive. I posted my opinion on a topic last week but was them accused of being in a click. I guess she was trying to say I was trying to impose my opinions on others. Didn’t really care. Don’t care now but I think Charles is too funny to let go. He is definiely extreme but everybody has a crazy uncle in there family. He’s the crazy uncle here.
there seems to be various definitions of clique … it’s more than just agreeing with someone.
Remember how Toya/Tomeka’s live chat was critized as being local to the point of excluding the rest of the lurking and commenting audience?!?!? That’s what an e-clique looks like … when the blog comments become a convo between a specific group of people (on a regular basis) to the exclusion of others.
Again, it’s only on rare occasions that I can stick around as the comments progress. I usually comment, leave, then read the comments in their entirety later. Maybe the groups don’t realize what’s happening in the moment.
(As usual, I’ll have to read later. It’s too hard to get keep up when you’re looking over your shoulder).

I’m always the first one to complain about cliques. Granted I have not been able to get on the computer for a while between my driving job and the computer virus that disabled my home computer, but from what I’ve seen here lately, it is not the worst case of cliques I have ever seen here before. There is a lot of meaness, but that’s differant albeit just as bad. People can disagree without attacking and disrepecting one another. And for the ones who are saying it’s not that serious, I personally think it is. If someone says something to me on the web that makes me want to hunt them down and lay hands on them then its serious. Is that why people have gotten more and more disrepectful, because they don’t think it’s serious?

Charles is Charles and most of us knew what to expect from him (which artist he did or didn’t like). Unfortunately, I noticed him getting warnings before today…

I used to post everyday until the job pulled my internet records. I am glad since I got laid off Sandra let me stay. I hope to have a new job in 2 weeks. Nothing anyone says really gets to me until they start going in on single parents and teen parents but then I have to realize not everyone’s circumstance is the same and take a look at myself. this site has allowed me to welcome some lifelong friends into my life. from waaay back in the old SR days we would come here…kick it…shoot the shyt and whatnot and we all started meeting each other OFF of this site. first via email then in person (they know who they are…will not name names). that was over a year ago (15 mo. to be exact…) i still talk to them at least 2-3 times a week on an email group. on what we term “the otha side”. however…comes to find out…even the otha side had dramatization! some of the other siders moved on for whatever reason but for the MOST part…most of us stay in touch.
the point i am tryna make is well its just thanks to sandra for bringing some really AWESOME folks into my life. for connecting me up with them. if it would not have been for THIS blog i woulda never met some folks that i truly consider some of my close friends now. friends are rare…close ones? even MORE of a rarity….close friends you find on a GOSSIP BLOG? unheard of. but when you spend 40 hours a week with someone or alot of “someones” chances are you are gonna connect with them on another level. nurfin wrong with that.
i do not participate in this blog EVERY single day anymore. that is why yall see folks sayin…”hey kwallace where you been??” when i DO comment. i called attention to the hostility a few weeks back. when i was called out by a comm. member for being a single parent, and some of my other views i put on my OLD kdub and went in. was i wrong? prolly. was she? yep. do i regret it? nope. cause we are all entitled to views without name calling and assumptions being made on our personal lives.

I know the question was originally posed for AirforceGirl, but I don’t see the connection.
How do we know it was a guise? Should we really be making the assumption that people are disingenuine? I don’t think the letter was directed towards the whole fam as a whole, but called attention specifically to the posts that supported the statement the letter was making.
To call out someone in a string on what they were posting(especially one of the two people mentioned in the letter) could have possibly initiated an unnecessary cyber-argument IMO, further escalating the problem. Everyone who has Sandra’s e-mail has the right to contact her, right or wrong? Walk with me know…
At the end of the day, people are going to feel the way they feel, and say what they are going to say. It doesn’t make it right, and it doesn’t always make it wrong.
The key element to prevent making a debate into an argument is respect.
The key element in showing adulthood verus childhood is respect & responsibility.
It’s mature to be considerate (or don’t respond at all) to prevent making folks uncomfortable and not lashing out and trying to grandstand on people when it’s someone unknown or new that is posting. No rewards for seniority that I know of here besides sporadic friendships.
Everyone doesn’t respond to newbies like that; but there are a select few who try to flex.
It has happened to me on more than one occasion and I have held my own. One poster tried to go in on my kids – what was mature about that? Forgivable, of course, but immature it was.
I don’t know Wiggy, maybe I was just raised different, and I’m not trying to throw shade your way so please don’t take it like that. When we downplay the simple things, they snowball into much bigger problems.

First I wasnt aware that the only definition of Guise was disgenuine. I guess me and dictionary.com are wrong. Because they as I thought list the synonmy as form or shape which is how I used to word.
Of course anyone who has Sandras email has the right to contact her, but if why not go direct to the source like in life. I thought most people prefer it that way.

AirForce..in regards to your comments and agreeing to the cliques let me ask you of your version of what a click is because there were several thrown out there. My version was of a group of people teaming up on another poster for their beliefs, or egging a cyber fight on in favor of another person. Some others thought a clique was simply having off topic conversations with others on and not including everyone in it. I also saw that some people thought that if you simply agreed with one persons comments over another then you clique with them.
All different theories and no ones is wrong but my question to you since you co signed is which of these do you define as cliquing and how did it intimidate you? Charles offends EVERYONE. He has the same relationship with posters as Sandra does…a love/hate one. The girl in the original email said that newer posters seems intimidated by older posters. When I came on here I was asked the same thing…who are you? Sandra I thought registration was closed..etc but you know what, I didn’t owe ANYONE an introduction to who I was or where I came from. I posted what I wanted to and if you wanted to respond you did and if you didn’t then keep it moving. I never felt intimidated when I was new on here.

Sometimes it’s hard to directly address individuals on the blog. Especially when it gets heated. I’ve gotten into heated exchanges a couple of times. Later when I go back and read the comments, I was embarrassed by how immature I got. Those times I’ve asked Sandra to delete my comments afterwards (she wouldn’t). Now, I’m very careful in how I disagree or I’ll pull back. It really is about how you comment.
THERE ARE EXCEPTIONS — and you have to know who they are.
Charles is one of them. Charles laid into me one time and I should have ignored it but didn’t. Later I was mad at myself for letting someone whom I don’t know anything about get to me (it was a bad day). I don’t think Charles is mean, most of the time his comments were general and funny.
@wiggy – to me, your whole response just went in circles and gave me no further insight as to where you were coming from. I don’t like being confused honey. I won’t ask again.
@Shauny – I agree with what you said too. Posters don’t have to even acknowledge it. Even still, it sours the mood sometimes, ya’ know?
And when you use guise in the tense that you used it in, it does meean this:
