Interracial Couple Denied Marriage License
I saw this headline on the news wires yesterday and I assumed it was a mistake. I didn’t even read the story because this is 2009, not 1909!
Unbelievably, a justice of the peace in a hick town in Louisiana denied an interracial couple a marriage license, in part, to protect the couple’s unborn children!!
Mr. Terence McKay and Miss Beth Humphrey both residents of Tangipahoa Parish were crushed and highly disappointed that based upon the color of their skin, that an official of Louisiana would deny their union in Holy matrimony. The couple was told by Mr. Bardell that 99 percent of interracial marriages ended up in divorce and that the decision not to marry them would be in their best interest and the best interest of any future children that would be born from their union. The NAACP in that area is asking Keith Bardwell to step down from his position. Bardwell countered by saying, in his experience, interracial marriages don’t last. Then he threw out that a typical racist excuse, such as “I have black friends” — you know, the line that all rednecks keep handy for just this sort of occasion:
“I’m not a racist. I do ceremonies for black couples right here in my house,” Bardwell said. “My main concern is for the children.”
He is so gone.

what got me is when he said he even allows blacks to use his bathroom! nope that’s not racist at all
I’m sure this is the way he’s always done business. U know how hick towns can be. However, I’m sure he messed with the right couple now. Honestly, I don’t care for interraccial marriages especially when it’s for ignorant reasons such as “disliking your own race, black women are ghetto golddiggers, black men are trifling, wanting kids w/good hair and etc.” other than true love. But again, who am I? However, it’s not anyone’s place decide and place there beliefs on another individual.
Let’s be real though, whenever we as blacks have friends of other races we refer to them as my white friend or spanish friend. Isn’t that racist as well? Whites do it also, by referring to us as there black friends. Of course this is only when conversing with others about your friend of another race.

And if i’m not mistaken it was about 6 months or so ago when i heard about an interracial couple getting killed I mean why are people so concerned about other people let people love who they want because they have to deal with society’s ignorance as long as there happy that’s their problem.

I’m 100% black.
No one’s 100% Black, especially here in American that would be like an anomaly…I read this article and wasn’t surprised at all. I would rather someone like him that says how he feels, than most white northerners who you know can’t stand you but smile in your face.
And where the heck did he get these statistics from? I guess ignorance is bliss…
