According to online reports, a Muslim soldier based at Fort Hood, Texas opened fire on military personnel at the base Thursday killing 13 and wounding 30 before he was taken into custody.
Reports say Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan shouted “Allahu Akbar,” which is Arabic for “God is great!” before opening fire with handguns.
Hasan, a lifelong Muslim, was a committed soldier with no extremist views, according to his imam at a mosque Hasan regularly attended. Hasan wore his uniform to prayers, according to the AP.
Authorities originally thought they killed Hasan during an intense shootout following the rampage. But Hasan was found alive and hospitalized in stable condition.
Hasan was apparently unhappy about being deployed to Iraq. He had hoped that Barack Obama would pull out o the Iraq and Afghanistan wars and got into frequent arguments with other soldiers about the war. that should have been a red flag that something was amiss.
In an effort to explain how a soldier using handguns could kill and wound so many, officials explained that “friendly fire” and ricocheting bullets may have contributed to the deaths. Responding military officials may have shot some of the victims accidentally.
Authorities initially thought three soldiers were involved. But two soldiers taken into custody were released yesterday without charges.

I got a couple of conflicting stories about this. First they said the suspect was dead, then they said he had two accompliances. One man caused all this devistation and is still alive in stable condition. How sad.

I read about this man and I was wondering why didn’t they release him from the army……..I feel bad for Muslim people because now people are just gonna be mean/cruel to them and his aunt said that people use to taunt him for being a Muslim(I am sure he isn’t the only person taunted)but he had to take it to the extreme to take the lives of innocent people who I am sure were just as nervous to go to war as him….That’s why I can’t be in the army,marines non of that(you cant sell me that whole country pride stuff)because I couldn’t take that pressure and risk my life and to come back home after all that horrors sthat they have seen and to live a normal life again. I was getting my breakfast in the deli this morning, and they said he’d never travel over seas, and atleast so far…they found no link to terrorists. As of RIGHT NOW…i’m going to say dude had a problem, and stick w/ the story that he didn’t want to go to war. I don’t feel bad for him though….after all he killed 13 of our own, and wounded 30+…it doesn’t get any worst than that…our soldiers shouldn’t expect that at home.
I don’t see us leaving either war anytime soon…..so the suicide rate amongst our vets will continue to go up. I can’t imagine what they go through. All we can do is just pray for them.

He had an extremist blog. Clearly he was losing his mind and possibly fearful of going to Iraq. He thought he was going to get that college education for free.
There are certain facts that remain.
1. The killer ironically, is a psychiatrist for the soldiers
2. He was BORN and RAISED in America.
3. Since there is no clear motive here, let’s not assume that his RELIGION had anything to do with it.
I, for one, seeing as though everybody throws their theories out there, feel like like as a psychiatrist, and treating all those soldiers with PTSD, he might have killed them to “save” them from what was to happen to them over there. Because most he killed were about to be deployed to the middle east.
In any event, the beauty of America, Canada, England etc. is that one is free to practise any religion they choose without the fear of being discriminated against. Let’s keep it that way. What one person does in the name of religion should not typecast everybody who believes the same. We as black people know all too well about the pain this causes when we’re stereotyped.
RIP to the fallen soldiers.

His religion did not cause the mental breakdown that led to this incident. I’m tired of Muslims getting a raw deal, when Christians commit crimes nobody ever attributes it to their religion, you never hear Christian serial killer or Christian rapist/murderers, though I;m sure if we looked at statistics there’d be Christians committing crimes than Muslims in this country. I feel sad for the incident, for the victims, the survivors & their families, I hope they can start the healing process.

There is a high suicide rate amongst psychiatrists. I’m originally from Akron, OH and there were 3 psychiatrists who committed suicide within a year period one time.
I went to a psychiatrist one time. She freaked out on a telephone call while I was in her office. I couldn’t get out of there fast enough. Never went to another one - decided to save my money and go to my church pastor.

My husband is Muslim he is from Bahrain, he isn’t even a sunni muslim(they blow theirselves up), but he is Shia and that doesn’t matter, he still suffers all types of sterotypes and critizim.
