Celebs Out & About

So I spoke on the phone with Amber Rose’s brother/manager Antonio Hewlett yesterday. After we got off the phone, we continued our little chat online and DM’d each other for about an hour. He’s a cool guy. Very smart and knowledgeable about the business and a great asset to his sister, who would definitely be floundering without him.

We talked about why Amber Rose suddenly deleted her verified Twitter page. And while I won’t go into the specifics of what he said, here’s my take on the whole social networking thing: Twitter is killing the game for celebrities — and not in a good way. Celebrities who are natural born narcissists LOVE social networking sites like Twitter because it gives them a public forum for their fans to laud over them, worship them and make them feel superior by rejecting those they feel aren’t worthy of a tweet. The problem comes in when celebrities make themselves too accessible to the public. There has to be a barrier of mystique placed between the celebrity and the regular public or that celebrity becomes just another regular Joe with nothing much to celebrate. I think Amber understood that concept - and because she’s obviously not a narcissist, she was able to walk away from her Twitter account and her 50,000+ followers. Kudos to her.

Gorgeous actress Gabby Sidibe stepped out last night wearing one of her fabulous lacefront wigs and her favorite plaid jacket over a flirty lace top and jeans. You can’t hate on a big woman with confidence even if you tried.

R&B singer Bobby Brown (”Every Little Step I Take”) was spotted out & about in LA last night with an arm full of shopping bags. Bobby and his wife were shopping at Zaras. Is he trying to bring Fila back?

Pop singer Lady GaGa made an appearance at a Best Buy in Los Angeles to sign copies of her sophomore CD ‘The Fame Monster’ which dropped last week. GaGa’s CD isn’t even in the Top 20 on the charts, selling only 8,600+ copies in its 2nd week out. This is obviously a sign that the Lady’s meteoric Fame is due more to blog-fueled hype than actual talent. The one thing you can never accuse GaGa of is lacking originality or imitating an idol such as Madonna.
