Why Are Children Being Vaccinated Against H1N1 Without their Parents Consent?

Conspiracy theorists are jumping all over the news about “mix ups” involving the H1N1 vaccines. According to online reports, school children across the country have been vaccinated against the swine flu virus without their parents consent. This is not as innocuous as it sounds.

Every school nurse knows she can’t administer as much as a single Motrin to children without parental consent. So how could this “mistake” happen?

Isn’t it interesting that in July, Obama’s US Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, signed a decree granting vaccine makers total immunity from any lawsuits that may arise from “Swine Flu” vaccine “mix ups” such as these incidents?

And why does the CDC suggest only children be vaccinated when adults as well as children are coming down with the flu?

at least one of these cases is a consent form snafu. i was surprised to see the long line in cobb county yesterday. as a parent, i would need more information before i just marched my kid in to take a shot. we don’t know WHAT the effects of this will be down the road.

these are a few isolated cases. I am sure this happens all the time with vaccines the antiobamas are playing this up for the consipriacy aspect. And Sandra as a nurse you know vaccines in short supply are ALWAYS advised for children first. Then seniors and immunocompomised people. Stop it. I suggest yall not take this or other news as fact and research the issue itself.

I received a consent form for my son who’s in Pre-K. I quickly said no. Not because I’m into all the conspiracy theories, but because there just hasn’t been enough time to determine whether this vaccine has any serious side effects.

keely I respect your opinion on vaccinations its your choice but the reason flu vaccines have to be “refreshed” is the virus changes and mutates. So the vaccine from last year is for the virus that went around last year. These virus’s and bacteria are SUPER SMART all the antibacterial products and antibiotic overuse helped in the creating of superbugs but thats a whole nother topic.

We had a similar case where a mom sent the signed form to school with the kid to not give him the shot. It didn’t work. The kid received the shot and ended up in the emergency room. They have changed their process, only send the signed form if you want the child to be vaccinate.

all i will say is its just way to fast. we found out about it early this year and they already have a vaccine and worked out all the kinks…YEAH RIGHT….And dont more people die from reqular flu than swine flu?

@ Wiggy………..YES i am mad too! The thing about it is my ob doctor said that I should get it and it was best for my baby and blah blah blah………BUT i dont have to and if I dont @ I will have to wear a mask that’s if it’s not mandatory! So if they make it mandatory then I might have to get it!

@missmiami #1 EXACTLY…I am currently pregnant and people keep telling me I should get it…WHY? My doctor hasn’t mentioned it to me. He won’t even let me use certain facial washes because “he doesn’t know what’s in it” let alone an un-approved vaccine that who knows what in it.

Initial Target groups are: DIRECTLY FROM THE CDC’S WEBSITE

When vaccine is first available, ACIP recommends that programs and providers administer vaccine to people in the following five target groups (order of target groups does not indicate priority):

pregnant women,
people who live with or provide care for infants younger than 6 months (e.g., parents, siblings, and day care providers),
health care and emergency medical services personnel,
people 6 months through 24 years of age, and,
people 25 years through 64 years of age who have certain medical conditions that put them at higher risk for influenza-related complications.

Research has found that pregnant women who had a flu shot get sick less often with the flu than do pregnant women who did not get a flu shot. Babies born to mothers who had a flu shot in pregnancy also get sick with flu less often than do babies whose mothers did not get a flu shot.

@Cinnamon Kisses right? With it being un-approved I would think it’s too soon to tell. I know you aren’t even really supposed to take things like Tylenol without doctors approval first so why do they think it’s ok for you to take a vaccine? They are coming to my job and I’m eligible for the first round and I’m passing…

Terika…you have been taking vaccines since you were a child. Formulations are changed in vaccines alllll the time to improve efficacy. A vaccine would not be release to the general public without approval from the FDA. It is not going to cause problems. It is exposing you to such a small amount of the disease to build antibodies for protection.

If you have a choice…TAKE THE INACTIVATED VACCINE AND NOT THE LIVE, ATTENUATED VACCINE. That’s only if you are worried about side effects. If you are pregnant, you cant get it anyway.

Here in Ontario (canada) they are vaccinating only more susceptible people, which are women, children 6 months to 5 years, people who care for susceptible people and adults with underlying health issues. I am pregnant and have a young daughter so I fit into 2 groups but still won’t be getting vaccinated. My main concern is that they are saying they have a certain type that should be administered to pregnant women and small children (some adjuvanted vs non adjuvanted stuff)…BOTTOM LINE…me, my unborn daughter and my daughter will not be guinea pigs for Glaxo Smith Kline or any other pharmaceutical company.

I don’t know about flu shots, they’re not the only thing that keep you from getting the flu, especially since the thing mutates so quickly and the shot you’re getting won’t prevent you from getting a different strain.
Basic hand washing and having healthy habits (eating right, working out, managing stress & getting enough rest) will keep your immunity up & help you fight the flu effectively. I’m 28 and I’ve never had the flu. Aside from multivitamins, I really do try to stay away from manufactured drugs.

What is funny to me is that no on wants to be a guinea pig and I understand that. If you are waiting on a study to see what long term issues will come out of a H1N1 vaccine, do that.

There’s nothing in my mind that makes me believe these STUDIES AND TEST ARE NOT FABRICATED. They can say whatever they want. Don’t put too much faith in those studies….THEY PAY BIG BUCKS TO DO WHAT THEY WANT.

@DB, yeah but I meant specifically while I’m pregnant. The flu shot I never got cause I’ve seen it give so many people the flu. I don’t really get the flu like that anyway so I don’t want to get the vaccine and get the flu….then have to do it all over again next year. I just take my vitamin C and stay healthy.

Divine, thank you for that. I love when people present facts. I worked in health care for years and understand vaccination and am down for it all. I just don’t believe a pregnant woman should be made to do anything risks and all. That is her body, her baby her risks to take. As far as her being a health care worker, jobs make accomodations for pregnant workers all the time. To offset the risk to others, couldn’t they just not have her in contact with patients?

OLYMPIA – State health officials are taking steps to ensure Washington residents at highest risk for H1N1 (swine flu) infection have broad access to the new vaccine when its available. Secretary of Health Mary Selecky is temporarily suspending Washingtons limit on the amount of mercury (thimerosal) allowed in H1N1 (swine flu) vaccine given to pregnant women and children under three.

Its vital to be sure everyone in a high risk group has the choice to be vaccinated when swine flu vaccine becomes available, said Secretary Selecky. Mercury-free H1N1 vaccine may not always be in stock, and we want to be sure there are no barriers to protecting people.

The six-month suspension is effective through March 23, 2010 and applies only to H1N1 (swine flu) vaccines now being developed. As a precaution, Washington state law limits the amount of mercury that can be in vaccines for pregnant women and children under three. The secretary of health can suspend the law when theres a shortage of vaccine or during a disease outbreak both criteria apply to the H1N1 (swine flu)
vaccine. Supplies of mercury-free vaccine will be limited, which may stop people in these groups who want the vaccine from getting it.

Studies on thimerosal poisoning also describe tubular necrosis and nervous system injury, including obtundation, coma and death. As a result of these findings, Russia banned thimerosal from children’s vaccines in 1980.

@fly #45 I just said that a little while ago. It seems like every few years there is a big “scare” and a new vaccine. I heard H1N1 is twice as contagious as the regular flu but the regular flu is actually more deadly.

See, I disagree there, health care workers in general need to be vaccinated. They deal with sick and immunocomprimised people all day. They are taking care of contagious patients then go into a room with a patient after surgery for example. Its a public health issue. If you don’t want to be vaccinated health care is not the profession for you.

@divine, the real problem with this is that it is a NEW vaccine, not something that’s been around forever with the kinks taken out.

i take flu shots every year with the exception of the year it was not readily available; however, i’m not down with H1N1.

they also have this new thing they are giving teenage girls to vaccinate against warts or something. i heard a young girl in kaiser on the phone telling her grandmother she didn’t want it it but her mother was making her take it.
