While running for president, Barack Obama criticized outgoing president George Bush for the war in Iraq.

Obama lashed out at the Bush administration for starting the war in Iraq without "giving either Congress or the American people the full story."

Obama promised to withdraw troops from Iraq and cut the military budget if he was elected.

Remember when Obama said:

I intend to end this war. My first day in office I will bring the Joint Chiefs of Staff in, and I will give them a new mission, and that is to end this war — responsibly, deliberately, but decisively.

During a nationally televised speech last night, Obama announced his plans to send an additional 34,000 troops to fight a war in Afghanistan that no one wants.

As of December 8, 2009, the Iraq war cost 4,326 American lives since the start of combat in 2003. Obama's Afghanistan war has cost nearly 850 soldiers lives and is on pace to eclipse the Iraq total. Meanwhile, Obama will tee up on the golf course this weekend.

I am still mad at President Obama practicing classism with the hiring of his staff and appointments. Can he hire some HBCU graduates?? Blank stare.

I am not impressed with Ivy League graduates, especially Black Ivy League graduates. They learn to hate themselves and other Blacks. It is disgusting.

:violin: I am truly saddened. He has just gotten himself in some mess that he will not make it out of. Seems as though he has been put in the "KENNEDY SITUATION". Guess history repeats itself :ashamed:

I don't think Obama was privy to the intricacies behind the war while running for office. Every candidate provided a platform on the issues and offered a game plan for change but until one actually assumes position in office I doubt very seriously any of them knew how deep the problem is with this war.

That's how I feel. At the time he was just an outsider looking in. Now he is in and realized we are "in" way over our heads. You can't bring them home without a plan.

  • http://twitter.com/sherita78 mizzdallas

So while everybody was throwing stones at Hilliary Clinton for voting for the war the rest of the people were praising Obama plans to end it and now he is sending 30,000 troops to Afghanistan. Anyway, I just want the war to end!

  • Anna

When we heard we were going to war most were shouting and cheering because they thought we finally get our pay back from 911. Once we knew the real deal we were all pissed and want(ed) our troops home. It's not easy to go to war and it's not easy to end one. The best we can do is support it, no matter how badly we want it to be over with.

  • tesla

Why are you shocked Sandra? The true fight in Afghanistan is exactly what the President promised to do in his campaign. He promised to END the war in Iraq and take the fight to where it should have been in the first place, AFGHANISTAN! You say "a war no one wants"??? The RIGHT supports WAR! Their biggest complaint is that he has given a timeline for execution and withdrawal. I actually think this was one of the biggest Bi-Partisan decisions he's had to make.

    LOVE the site Sandra :)

He is taking streps to end the war, and I think its silly that you support clearly gay dl incompetent and with the same credentials kasim reed to run your city but you hate on obama? Im so happy he's handling afghanistan and he's doing it the right way oout of careful consideration

Im just curious sandra what would you with ur nursing degree know anything about foregin policy, the military or fighting wars

Do u realize how stupid that sounds?? U think being in their 2 mor e years will cost 3k more lives when in 9 years it cost 850. Lmfaoooo sandra this is messy

  • Redeemed777

I know I keep saying this, but OBAMA does not call ANY shots.

He lied, point blank and period.
He has to lie, otherwise he will be dead.

I'm pretty sure he don't won't to die, so he just obeys the rulers of darkness, but......

"He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. If anyone serves Me, let him follow Me; and where I am, there My servant will be also. If anyone serves Me, him My Father will honor." - JOHN 12:25-26

  • luvly1957

BULLSHISH, this is not Obama war, this war has been going on for years when Bush sorry azz sent troops over there in 2003. Sandra, u so full of it always twisting shish, and he is sending more troops DUE TO THE FACT UR REPUBLICANS asked for them. DAMED if u do and DAMNED if u don't. I LOVE MY PRESIDENT GO OBAMA!!!!!

  • qtipthecat

I agree with #10. We may not agree with everything our President does or thinks, but he is our Commander and Chief and if he wants to send more of us over there, then we need to go. He did not make this war. But that truly is the only way to end it. If not than all our soldiers that died will have died for nothing.

  • ziggy

Right on at @ 11. Obama said that he will continue the war against Afghanistan. He voted no for the Iraq war and Clinton voted yes for the Iraq war. He campaigned with keeping troops in Afghanistan.

  • Daisy

I was not in favor of any war even after Sept 11 cause I knew the war in Iraq had nothing to do with 911.

I do not agree with sending more troops to Afgah. but I am not surprised at all. He did not start the war but I  he ends it sooner than later.

Peace n Blessings to the troops n their families!

Okay first of all Afghanistan is not "Obamas war" this is Americas war becuase those terrorist attacked America. Obama wasnt even really known by those outside of CHI-TOWN when this war Kicked off!

This is not his war I am very critical of Obama ad I must say his plan is good except for the pull out date. So thats like saying Hey Taliban we are going to leave at this time.. of course they will let you think all is well and hte minute you minimize your prescence they attack.

  • LLani

For all of you that voted for this man, because of the mere fact he is black. Thank you for setting us all up for failure. Everything that has come out of this man's mouth has been lies, lies, and more lies. He has fed all of you a big pile of horse shit. I didn't vote for him and I knew exactly what he would do for the american people once he was in office....ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! This sickens me and all of you that are ready for that free health care make sure you have enough money to pay your taxes because they are going to tax the shit out of all of us!!!!!

  • lovinme

    @ Daisy

Unfortunatley the war in Afghanistan aint going any where any time soon... and Iraq we will hava e a precense there for years to come, just like Korea.

But as a Veteran who has seen it and lost friends to it I wish he could. But he cant our next President will still be dealing with it.

I do think he is doing a good job minus the pullout date!

  • lovinme

    @LLani

I didnt vote for him, however I believe that the rest of America felt he could do it. So all we can do now is let him live up to his words which he cant cause he wont end this war on day one cause he is almost at a year!

Free Healthcare or should I say a goverment run healtcare I am against it I already pay for mine and my taxes pay for someone else now they want to tax my benefits... Nah not the kid Im not with that.

  • don khan

Unfortunately, Obama doesn't run this country, but bankers do. Or else Obama wouldn't have given them our tax dollars. They're making too much money off this war (contracts), weakening our defense on the home front (sending more troops),and building prison camps (google it). Not trying to force my opinion on anyone, just hoping to open up someone to another possible point of view. Our current politicians are poison for the country, the world.

The only real "change" that will come is if the people push for it. This country needs to build a new model to make the old one obsolete. People are waking up and starting to see through the Matrix, praise to the Creator!

I think its Ironic that you say that, I know many that agree with you. But they are the same people that when Bush said it they cried complained an moaned. Maybe not you cause i dont know you. But I have seen people a year ago wanted out of Afghanistan and said Bush sucks. But the minute Obama says he we need more they like yeah he right!

??????? maybe cause they see a different strategy okay Ill give them that, but the strategy is not Obama;s the strategy is that of his advisors and the Generals on the ground. And I think he has done a pretty good job of listening to them...

  • Mahogany03

I'd rather have him send troops to Afghanistan then to send them to Iraq. People from Afghanistan (NOT IRAQ) killed 3,000 of our civilians. Why are we in Iraq in the first place?! Oh yeah....to rebuild THEIR country

I don't understand why people expected Obama to be a miracle worker. It's only been a year since he's been elected. Give that man some time. Even he said that the "CHANGE" may take two terms to complete. I didn't even hear this much bitching and complaining when Bush was in office. How is Obama suppose to fix something 8 years in the making?!

  • SouthernPrincess

President Obama campainged on the platform of ending the war in Iraq and going into Afghanistan. So to those who are stating that he lied I would encourage you to do some research and stop co-singing with other without knowing the facts for yourself. That is the problem with some people, they refuse to seek and understand information on their own which is disgusting to me.

And to the person who made the comment about ivy league educated blacks, that was comical. I am proud of my ivy league education, and I don't hate myself or other blacks.

I agree the man is not God he cant change things overnight. He campaigned on change and some people dont realize that it wont happen over night. Those that voted for him and supported him need to give him time. But then again when you say you will end the war on day one of being in office people may hold you to that word.

But reality is campaign talk really is just that! they tell us what we want to hear so we vote for them! Its Politics as usual on all sides!

  • lovinme

    @southernprincess

He said he would end the War in Iraq on day one......... i think that what people are saying is he didnt do that. Problem is when people are campaigning they say things that they have no clue if it can or will happen, thats politics.

You went to Medical school Bless your heart I hear that shit aint no joke my cousin is a pediatrician.

  • CivilEngineer

Damned if you do, damned if you don't! This is Bush's fail. Obama has no choice but to send more troops...he gets all the blame if we lose! The war on terrorism will be everlasting, you can't change what people believe to be true in their hearts. There are many people who are raised to believe that Americans are evil...you can't change their minds. War will never solve that, it may weaken them enough to stay on the other side of the Atlantic though. I'm glad it's not my decision to make.

Can't believe I commented on an Obama post on here! :-o

  • SouthernPrincess

So much was said during the campaigned that I don't recall the one day comment, but I will do some more research. Also I agree with your politics comments, you never know the extent of a situtaion until you are actually in it.

Med school was no joke, thats for sure.
    Congrats to your cousin!

  • LadeeA

@ Redeemed- You are absolutely right. The Powers that be do not include Obama, he is told what to say and what to do. Furthermore, you'll be surprised to know how many pockets get fat because of war. People have no idea how much money Bush and Chaney made from their well known company Haliburton who provides food and supply for these U.S. wars.

  • CivilEngineer

I can't argue over the government run healthcare because I honestly don't understand how it works. But I'm SICK of hearing "you only voted for him because he's black." We don't make up the majority...let it go! He's the president now, get over it! He can't run the country in the ground. We live in a democracy, some of you act like you don't know what that means...look it up! Must be the same people that think Obama started the war huh?

I agree with you Anna. This is something President Obama inherited. Had we concentrated on Afghanistan in t he beginning, instead of going after Iraq, we probably would have been out of there by now. So, now it's time to really do what Bush was supposed to do in 2001, when he sought after Osama bin Laden for 911. Prayerfully this time will be more successful.

True indeed had we focused on one before going into another we may be in a different position now globaly. but eventually we would have gone to Iraq hell Clinton was bombing they asses but thats no where near the all out war we are in now. Let me inform you there are only about 50,000 army troops right now and if this war drags on another 3 years YOU will probably be looking at a draft.

thats incorrect we have way more then 50,000 Army troops right now. there are currently over 530,000 Soldiers in the Army. And with all branches of the military over there goal of recruitment this quarter.

But the wars are still a strain on the force. But we have way more then 50,000

    FAIL: Sandra Rose

Where is your plan for Afghanistan?

Oh, that's right, you're not the President of the United States of America.

    Irrelevant.

  • talldrink

You are incorrect! That number is what we have left in the army. They may be able to pull some forces from navy, marines, air force, but that's it.

How many ppl do you actually think are volunteering? Some of these men have been on their 7th mission. If they had 530k, they'd have less of a problem but they don't.

  • lovinme

I am not incorrect there are over 530,00 troops in the Army alone.

They are all volunteers becuase the Army is by choice. As far as deployment hell yeah some been there 7 times and thats terrible I wont argue that.

But how can you say ". Let me inform you there are only about 50,000 army troops right now" when there are way more
your saying that there are only 50k in the Army thats ridiculous.

The number I recieved of over 530,000 came from someone that works at the Human Resources Command and she works directly in force sustainment! So i know I may not be exact but Im way closer then you ". about 50,000 army troops right now"

  • VIBABY

@ talldrink 50,000 Army troops total? lol, When I was stationed in Ft Hood (a few years ago) there were almost 50,000 soldiers on that base alone. "lovinme" is right.

  • SanfiPolemikos

Obama's national security adviser GEN. JAMES L. JONES says...

"The maximum estimate is less than 100 operating in the country, no bases, no ability to launch attacks on either us or our allies."

Wow! So they got about 68,000 troops in Afghanistan right now already. Now with another 34,000, we're looking at over 100,000 troops! 1000:1 ratio!

Kinda sounds like overkill don't it? And all on our tax dollar.

Well anyway it's good to see a lot of y'all don't agree with this at least.
