Marion Jones Making a Comeback As WNBA Player

Disgraced track and field star Marion Jones wants to make a comeback to the world of professional sports as a WNBA player.

Jones, who served 6 months in prison for lying to the feds about her involvement in a sports doping scandal, has been practicing hard for a spot on a WNBA team.

“This is a second chance for me. I missed competitiveness,” Jones said. “I missed the challenges of participating in sports.”

“There isn’t a day I don’t reflect on some of the bad choices I made,” Jones said. “But I’m not going to crawl up in a corner. I know that anytime I’m involved there is going to criticism, skepticism and naysayers. But I know I’m on the right path now. This is just another little bit of the challenge.”

“It was never a question of whether I could do it physically,” Jones said. “It was do I want to welcome the scrutiny again in my life. I prayed about it.”

San Antonio Silver Stars coach Dan Hughes confirmed Jones has been practicing with his assistants to possibly play for his team.

Jones is no stranger to hoops. She was a star for North Carolina in her college days.

Lock up, is lock up but isn’t there a difference between “prison and jail”? She went to jail not prison.

@ anna – when its rappers, etc. they go to jail. When its people with money and the commit fraud etc – they go to Prison. Martha Steward, Marion Jones, and Berry Madedoff (sic) for examples.

I wish her the best. Hoop it up girl.

This is ridiculous. Marion Jones should be banned from all sports. She was the poster girl for track and field all over the world. This is not one of those athletes who used steroid once or twice and felt bad about it later. She knew exactly what she was doing and was on illegal stuff pretty much her whole career and made sure her coach and doctors covered up her mess. She ws also married twice (tim Montgomery and CJ Hunter) to two steriod users. She surronded herself with people who knew how to trick the system…

Sure she was a great athlete with a lot of natural talent but she is also one of the biggest fraud in the world of sports. It doesn’t make any sense at all to give someone like Marion jones a second chance when it comes to sport.

It’s a shame that she ruined her legacy because of that. I was shocked to hear that she used steroids. She’s one of the US sprinters I actually looked forward to seeing. Otherwise, I’m all about that black, green and gold!

I don’t think she told because she wanted to. She knew they were on to her and was pregnant at the time and wanted less time away from her baby. I just read that she had a baby this year.

She won a National title while playing ball at UNC. I think with hard work and determination she would be able to make a WNBA roster. The women in the WNBA tend to play into their early 40′s so she isn’t too old.

I totally forgot about her. Best wishes. Why do most female ball players have to be so manly looking. Can we get some sassy sisters in the WNBA? :shrugs:

    free says:

THANK YOU negrito! not only did she mess herself up (which is her choice) but she f’ed up HER TEAM, forcing them to have to give up their medals. that, to me, is UNFORGIVEABLE. i remember a relay meet where the team was skeptical, everyone was, but she insisted she did not use steriods. she could have faked an injury and let a replacement run. she ran, selfishly, and EVERYBODY had to suffer. NO SYMPATHY FOR THIS H*E.

she is currently preggers with baby number three i thought.

yes she went to unc on a basketball scholarship. and they won a title while she was on the team.

marion done helped ruin a whole lotta lives including her own. she was just so in love with c.j. hunter that he quit his coaching job at unc for her. then he took the heat (at first) for the ‘roids for her. she had tim montgomery deposting phony checks to take care of her. she THEN caused her team to loose their place in history due to her. and all of this…while she just claimed to be so dayum innocent and that she knew nothing about nathan.

sitcho “over the hill for the wnba” azz DOWN someplace marion. :coffee:

You know what this steroid lynching thing really gets my panties in a bunch. Look here, I can’t swim, play tennis or basketball if I take steroids guess what? I still won’t be able to swim, play tennis or basketball. Taking roids have horrible side effects but truth is talent is talent these mofo’s irk me by ending peoples careers and tarnishing their names. Hell, stop advertising gatorade as an enhancer then or prosecute all those who’ve indulged if that’s the case! I’ll Wait…….. :waiting:
