I found this pic of this seemingly macho black man on Ms. Wanda’s blog yesterday. To some of you, he may seem like the hunk of your dreams, who simply oozes sex appeal.
Unfortunately, this brotha likes the same thing you like.

This is the dilemma faced by many sistas in Atlanta who meet brothas like this every weekend in the nightclubs. Yes, he looks good, ruggedly handsome with sexy lips — but he’s also as gay as Kanye and Adam Lambert.
Black women in Atlanta struggle mightily to separate the eligible men from the many queens who prowl the same nightclubs they do looking for the same men they are looking for.
For this reason the competition for straight men in Atlanta is very fierce, and the hopes of finding a straight one who isn’t married is dismal.

I live in the ATL, but I think youre exaggerating Sandra. Yes there are a lot of gay Black men here but there are also a lot of straight men as well. A lot of these gay men came from other cities and states.

@ scandalous, I agree. I find it funny that lesbian is always trying throw gay men or supposed gay men under the bus w/o mentioning that there are a lot lesbians and bisexual women in the ATL. There are some malls I don’t go to because the lesbians are always on the prowl.
Well dayum…I didn’t think there was anything sexy about him in the beginning, also, my gaydar was beeping from the get go. Living in Atlanta for almost 10 years has sharpened my gaydar tremendously.
I often meet my BFF at Gordon-Birsch Brewery for drinks and you can see the type of men entering Bulldogs (for all the non-ATLiens, that’s a gay club) and they are not flaming and flamboyant, they’re your everyday, regular man. I’m talking from suit and ties to baggy pants and timbos…SMH…My thing is if you’re going to be gay then be gay. Don’t do that DL crap.

I saw that on Facebook. The reality is that the ratio of women to men is 24 to 1 (or something close to that). On top of that, a large percentage of the men are married, gay or incarcerated. What does that leave us with???

I have not seen the nightline clip, but I’m sure the numbers are staggering. I agree with your comments for sure. I have lived here in Atlanta for 3 years, and I have never seen anything like it. To be actually SCARED to date is hella frustrating.

Thanks renegadesince1985 – I almost embarrassed myself and my hubby; I’ve seen that “Bulldogs” restaurant on P’Tree and wondered if the food was good, and even asked my husband if we should try it (we used to go to the Vortex that once was across the street). Instead of stories like this, why not shine the light on the reasons so many men don’t want the females who cry about not having a man…

The real interesting thing is that the guy above is not who women should be weary of. He obviously has no qualms about his sexuality. Gay men are not the straight woman’s “enemy” or obstacle to happiness. It’s the married men that creep with other men, the boyfriends that cheat on their girls with dudes, the guys that date both men and women and keep women in the dark about their history or preferences. I have heard stories that will make your jaws drop and it takes a lot to shock me in this day and age. They don’t really offer suggestions but point out the obvious. When they try to give suggestions the women usually don’t listen.

I have to Amen you on this. We need to stop feeding into the media’s need to continously display us as “toxic people.” They constantly want to tell us we are diseased,criminal-minded and hopeless even when we are achievers. First and foremost gay people exist EVERYwhere. Not just Atlanta. The demographic here is exploited and in some instances this area caters heavily to that population as most urban cities do; and because of this people feel liberated to be themselves when not oppressed by thier environment. Cities like NY, San Franciso, CHicago, Miami, and any urban area will always have a dense mixing pot of ppl that more expressive i.e. the drag queens and wig wearers. Quit lookin for reasons to dethrone black men.
As far as the dateline interview….Through a mutal friend I am familiar with 2 of the girls on that show and they will remain nameless. Love them. Both of whom are established but unfortunately accustomed to dating football players and guys making a 7 figure salary. Why cant black women be optomistic but realistic?? All of you won’t marry a foot ball player or b knocked up by a rap star. Stop tryin so hard!! Your mechanic, or trash guy stares you in the face regularly but you turn your nose up at him. I have to agree with the posters who are saying it’s just not an Atlanta problem. Like I wrote, I’m from the Bay Area, Berkeley to be exact, and I have seen PLENTY of gay, lesbian, transgender people to last me a LIFETIME.
