Celebs Out & About

Musical legends and A-listers galore gathered together at a studio in Hollywood yesterday to record “We Are the World Haiti” with proceeds from the song’s sales going to Haiti relief efforts.
25 years ago, Quincy Jones recorded the original “We Are the World” and asked the megastars, including Michael Jackson, Diana Ross and Bruce Springstein, to check their egos at the door.
The list of artists on this version of WATW reads like a Who’s Who of Hollywood and Hip Hop. LEgends Nancy Wilson, Natalie Cole, Freda Payne, Tony Bennett, Verdine White, Phillip Bailey and Maurice White of Earth, Wind & Fire were all there. The new school was represented by Justin Beiber, Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers.
Surprisingly, Beyonce, Jay Z and Rihanna didn’t make it to the session even though they were in Hollywood yesterday. Wyclef, whose career got a big boost from the tragedy over in Haiti, made himself available for the session. He appears in most of the photos because he annoyingly made himself the center of attention in the room. I’m sure the other narcissists didn’t appreciate him hogging the camera.
Below and after the break is a partial list of the stars who appear on the record.

Akon

Brandy, Celine Dion and Keri Hilson

Gladys Knight

Kanye West and Jennifer Hudson

Katharine McPhee and Freda Payne

Lil Wayne

Lionel Richie (who wrote the original WATW) and Quincy Jones who produced it

Mya

Nicole Scherzinger, Tyrese and Brandy

Jennifer Hudson looks great! She lost 56lbs and she’s still bigger than Kanye. lol She’s got another 30 to go.
Not sure that I like them remaking We Are the World but I know its going for a good cause. Interested to see how this all turns out. We Are the World was such a monumental song in its day. Hopefully it will bring much needed funds and keep attention on Haiti.
Im mad at Katharine McPhee doing that to her hair…just mad! And it still didnt help her career
Curious to know if Lil Wayne will be rapping or singing?

If this updated version sounds great, I’ll buy it. I just hope the money really goes to the Haitian people.

@ggouch….
Somebody got their wig split after the grammy stunt.
They walked uo there looking like a big happy family knowing the blogs would go in on bey about not giving that man any kids. When your first time claiming your husband is said stunt, it reeks of insecurity and desperation. And then you found out she wore your performance dress tweo months before you did in a Vogue shoot…
yeah, I’m thinking she sent Solo to holla at a bish!

Per Q.Jones, Mike’s voice will be included in the song. Isn’t that the ish?!
Excert from Yahoo.News…Please don’t ban me SR. Jus thought SR Fam would find this interesting.
Lil Wayne, for one, said he was not a singer, and thought organizers were joking when they asked him to perform the line originally sung by Dylan. Asked if he did a better job, Lil Wayne said, “Hell no!”
But the rapper added a note of discontent: “It’s amazing what’s being done for Haiti, but it’s amazing what hasn’t been done for New Orleans” (after Hurricane Katrina in 2005).
I see Snoop Doggy Dogggggy Doggy Dog
too much going on that from the pics alone, i’m not convinced i’d like it. i may be surprised with the outcome though. i’m tryna wrap my brain around a product with jonas brothers and lil wayne and gladys knight all on it.
wait for it…………
@ LovelyLady -

Love Celine’s LV scarf. Nice!
Jenn is looking so good! That size looks good on her. Kanye looks smitten…Aiight now, @ JHud!
OMG Trey Songs and Tyrese looks so gay, so does Gladys Knight, and Kanye is looking at Jennifer Hudson like she is just as gay as he is.
Maya has the gayest smile, and Lionel and Quincy have on some of the gayest glasses ever!!!. Pink is so gay. Lil Wayne is extra gay esp. since he is going to jail – all teh gays are in jail. Toni Braxtons hair is so gay, and Usher is the gayest of all times (GOAT).
This thread is just gay
@lovelylady
I just sent you a twitter message via @sherita78!
@RTB
LaTech, Kirk does not impress me. Why is he alwasy forming a different choir/group every 6 months and then they break up? Is he trynna be like Diddy or sum’n #imjustsayin
Well dang RTB!!
@RTB, LOL. The Gospel version of Diddy. This time it’s not bad I promise. All of the major gospel recording artists were involved in this project.
Yall are crazy.
I don’t see why people keep compariing the aftermath of Katrina to this Haiti earthquake. There were both devastating, but are we forgetting that New Orleans got destroyed due to neglect & government feck ups? The state of Louisiana & the country had the infrastructure & resources needed to prevent or fix everything, but Bush (& his administration) decided that it was more important to spend money chasing phantom WMDs & avenge his father.
Haiti on the other hand had a lack of infrastructure, lack of resources & widespread poverty (let’s not get into the US’ involvement in destabilizing that country) prior to this earthquake… Its inhuman not to help in any capacity posssible.
Besides Lil Wayne is ignoring that there was an outpour of help that went to New Orleans, are we forgetting the 1st infamous Kanye moment? I know GA & TX both took in survivors and took a hit in their budgets.
Umm half of them can’t sing. Why couldn’t they write a new song instead of remaking WATW?
@ggouch, Im late but I am a big fan of Amel. Her voice is so beautiful and her lyrics make sense. I love the song Weary. Every Black woman should hear it.
i’m tired of looking at Celine Dion. She thinks she is God’s gift – that dude Susan Boyle is God’s gift
I loves me some LL but why does it look like he has on Extra Berry lip gloss????

I understand Lil W’s statement. There was a lot of neglect in reference to Katrina. Local and Federal Goverment both. Being that a lot of neighborhoods in LA still look the same today as they did the morning after Katrina, I can understand why he felt the need to make the statement. Hatie will return to it’s self quickly.
#58 – well you have to consider the fact that in the 80′s, people relied on talent, writing and singing. Now it’s just all about re-making a hit, chop screw and auto tune it.
Lisa-white-wearin-Raye
@ pointhimout
They better not ruin a classic with this melting pot of “talent”
this is clearly a publicity stunt….
Wow, I’ve never seen Tyrese with hair. I’m trying to determine if I like it.
What happens when you throw a few legends in with some narcissists, and some folks trying to resurrect their careers??? Hmmmmm
There were both devastating, but are we forgetting that New Orleans got destroyed due to neglect & government feck ups?
There are many reasons the two are compared. Per history, the same can be said for the Haitian government. The Haitian government has helped to destroy that country from the inside out. Seriously, read about their Presidents and leaders following their revolution (Duvalier and his son, especially). The greed from those men have been nothing nice. The leadership in the 90s cause those with the means (educated ones) to flee the country to do so, heading straight for the US.
Civil, is’t that called a VH1 Reality Show?

I’m with #1. This is going to be very interesting. SMH. Can’t wait 2 hear this remake.
I want to hear this.
I read that Bey and others part will be added to the track.
I don’t know how Haiti will be rebuilt quickly when NO has yet 2 fully recover. The USA has better resoruces n cld have rebuilt NO 10x over by now if they wanted to.
I am glad we helped both NO and Haiti but were sad situations
Arent we building a military base in Haiti?
If we stopped spending money on fake wars then we could rebuild many countries…. often times charity money is used to fund negative things like wars, weapons, etc
@Daisy…the difference is Haiti wants to rebuild. The US and Louisiana couldn’t careless about rebuilding New Orleans. They’ve rebuilt what was most important to them i.e. Downtown and the French Quarter. It’s up to the people to have their homes rebuilt and that’s difficult when the government allowed insurance companies to drop flood coverage from policies. Most people are depending on federal aid and you know how that goes…
WTF is up with Brandy’s eyebrows? I do not like Tyreese with hair!
instead of remaking it, why didn’t they just record a new song?
How many people are in this thing? I see singers and actors in the pics.
ROTFL @ RTB #66!
Whew! That just made my day!
They didn’t record a new aid/relief song because within the time it would take the talented songwriters and singers to work with the non-talented folks, the beat biters, the track slayers, the yodelers, and habitual offenders, Haiti would be rebuilt, thriving, and have 5 McDonald’s drive thru’s.
So they said to hell with it and remade the song. It’s what everyone is doing anyway.
@ RTB – That’s exactly what I was saying to the other blogger. She was saying that she didn’t understand why Katrina kept being compared to Haiti’s earthquake. I don’t see how one couldn’t see the similarities.
@ KayCei – LMAO and hi five.
There are some actors in here but there were also actors in the original version (i.e Harry Belefonte, Dan Akroyd). There were also some people in the original that could not sing very well (i.e. Cyndi Lauper). I think that people are missing the point of the entire song. Its about coming together to help each other: black, white, puerto rican, or hatian(sp). Its about the human race and for that I think the remake will turn out to be great.
That look on Barbra Streisand’s face…..lol – need I say more. I wonder what she was really thinking?
I mean LL. Cool J, Fonzworth Bentley — I mean did they even care, who they threw into this song. They just threw everyone, cousins, nephews, and there mommas in there.
Hell, it wouldn’t of surprised me, if Frankie & Neffe had made the list!
Tyrese had to grow that hair out for those new movies, one that is in the middle of shooting right now, yaw do your homework. He is not playing in 2010 or 2011, I see him eventually doing acting and not even touching music anymore. That will be a good look for him.
Umm…#101, Tan82–Harry Belafonte is also a singer and Dan Aykroyd did “Blues Brothers” which he was singing in it. #22, bigtyme–I still can name all of the ones who were in the first one, lol. I don’t know half of these people in the new version though.
BEAUTIFUL to see everyone together… can’t wait to hear it. I wasn’t very fond of them remaking that classic song..let’s see how it goes
Let’s not complain about help for Haiti. Katrina was an eye-opener for everyone so now people are stepping up because of mistakes before. Stop comparing disasters..they’re all tragedies, goodness. How about we complain about something that would make a difference in our community instead of adding negativity?? All this attention because its an international affair..its touched everyone. Hurricane Katrina was the US problem and we see how we handled that. We’ve learned and are trying to do more. Benefits, songs, etc WERE done for Katrina. 170k+ lives and counting are dead in Haiti. Get over it
ohpretty1, Haiti government did have their problems but lets not forget how much US intervention, embargoes, loans, etc messed the country up in the 1st place. From then on, it went downhill. Haitians were still maintaining but the last few hurricans and this earthquake greatly put us underneath. Don’t compare a NATURAL DISASTER results to something that could have been foreseen in the US had the gov’t cared. Just like they portray African countries in a negative light in the media, other parts of Haiti were fine and doing well despite corruption.
Who is the little boy standing next to Gladys in the second picture showing her??? Could it be Blanket finally got a hair cut? Surely SPR knows. Give it up.
