Las Vegas Mayor: Obama Has a ‘Psychological Hang Up’
U.S. president Barack Obama angered Las Vegans after he slammed their city at a town hall meeting in Elkhart, Ind., on Monday. Obama tried to make a point about wasteful spending when he said people shouldn’t blow their cash in Vegas. “You can’t go take a trip to Las Vegas or go down to the Super Bowl on the taxpayer’s dime,” said the hypocrite.
Obama’s words angered the powers that be in Vegas, including the mayor who said Obama has a “real psychological hang up” and “he’s not our friend.”
Maybe in his haste to tell common folk how to spend their hard earned dollars, Barack the Narcissist forgot about the time when he wasted $250,000 of taxpayer dollars on a “dinner date” with his wife Michelle Obama in New York where they shamelessly took Air Force One to watch a broadway show.
He also didn’t mention the $1 million that Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has already spent flying her family to exotic locales around the world on the public’s dime.
What makes Obama’s gaffe even more galling is the fact that Obama will be in Vegas in two weeks to campaign for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, a Democrat from Nevada.
Las Vegans are still fuming from Obama’s snub last year when he criticized bailed out banks for taking junkets to Vegas with the cash that He gave them. The criticism resulted in a loss of millions in tourism dollars and jobs to the area as banks and corporations took their vacations and junkets elsewhere.
Wells Fargo bank and Goldman Sachs Group received $25 billion and $10 billion in taxpayer-funded bailout money respectively from Santa Obama. That’s $35 billion that could have gone towards creating jobs for out-of-work Americans.
Yesterday, Reid responded angrily to Obama insulting his state again (especially since Reid needs their votes come November). “To truly reenergize our economy, we need people to travel to Las Vegas,” Reid said in a statement prompting Obama to write an apology letter to Reid.
But Las Vegas Congresswomen Shelley Berkley, a Republican, had harsher words for Obama:
“Enough is enough!” Berkley said. “President Obama needs to stop picking on Las Vegas and he needs to let Americans decide for themselves how and where to spend their hard earned vacation dollars. This is the second time he’s pointed a finger in our direction and both times he’s been wrong to single out Las Vegas.”

Funny how he speaks on “wasting money” yet he approved for a monorail train, or whatever the h3ll it is, to be built down here in Tampa, FL.. I mean, why not just drive the 45 mins to Orlando, why do we need to spend billions of dollars on a train???

Oh Sandra. There are so many things wrong with this post. First, Obama was right to make the comment about Vegas. It was not a direct hit to Vegas in general but he was telling the very people that casinos spend their time advertising to (rural, middle class to poor people looking for a break) that spending $$ that the government is offering to help you get back on your feet at a casino is wasteful. Uh DUH! It is! He was encouraging them to do something intelligent like get out of debt or save for retirement. These are the same people that thought Sarah Palin was smart enough to be VP so YES, they need a little more coaching than most!!! There is a “psychological hangup” in America – it is in society. People (I love you Sandra but I’m looking at you right now) mix and match facts and fiction to skew the truth and common sense and these days IT WORKS on people who are easily led astray.
Obama is the leader of the US! He is one of the most recognizable and famous people in the WORLD! What did you expect him to do? Travel on Southwest to take his wife out? At least he is taking HIS WIFE out and unlike the GOP that YOU love so much, he isn’t “backdooring” her with a another woman or a MAN!If he had taken a private plane that he paid for with his own money (and they have plenty of it), there would have been a problem. If he had driven himself in a hybrid, there would have been a problem. If he had ignored the occasion completely with his wife, there would have been a problem. So, NEXT!
I’m glad Obama called the backs out for trying to take a Vegas vacation with the money they were supposed to be trying to help people with! Screw them- they screwing the public! Obama didn’t give them the money to party with. Everyone should be happy he chastised them- even Vegas because if the banks put the economy in the toilet, SIN CITY is gonna get a lot more Christian-like QUICK but, that would make too much sense no wouldn’t it?
Lastly, the only reason people have “angry words for Obama” is because it’s an election year and they are trying to save their arses. Anyone with common sense knows Obama was right and uh Harry baby, Vegas can’t save the economy and Obama can only make comments. He can’t lock people in their homes and keep them from going anywhere. If they don’t go, it’s because common sense kicked in.
But Sandra is a smart woman, she knows all of this and so do the “angry” powers that be.

Sandra, if you are going to tell the story, tell the WHOLE story. He was talking about how politicians try to go to Las Vegas and places of the sort and let the taxpayers pay for it.
And as for Mr. and Mrs. Obama’s dinner date what did you expect them to do? Pack up the Secret Service in the Surburban and drive the 3 hour or more distance from DC to NYC. You got to be kidding me.
And of course the Republican mayor is going to have something negative to say about the Democractic president’s comments.

I think President Obama is right in the sense that these corrupt bankers and politicians should stop using bailout money in stupid, selfish, and greedy ways. It’s ridiculous. But I also agree that he should stop running his damn mouth (which he does soooo well) and practice what he preaches. And that’s real.
African_dude: I think your focus is on the same small things other people who don’t want President Obama in office is on. They can wear $800 sneakers if they choose too, they have the money and don’t live beyond their means as so many of the people in this financial world wind have done today!!
