Mary J. Blige Loses Her Cool in Front of Hollywood Royalty
It’s easy to tell when a sistah’s love life is lacking by the way she treats others around her.
According to online reports, Mary J Blige forgot her manners and chewed out her band in front of A-listers and industry execs at a pre-GRAMMY event inside the Beverly Hilton’s international ballroom last night. They say just as the band was about to strike up Mary’s hit “No More Drama”, Mary began flailing her arms and demanded to know, “Can we get the right music for Mary J Blige?”
[For the benefit of those who don't know, a classic sign of narcissism is when one refers to oneself in the third person.]
Anyway, she added: “Are we practicing still?” as the audience, which included Barbra Streisand, Jane Fonda, Usher, Taylor Swift and Joan Collins, looked on in disbelief because clearly, the band was not practicing, and it is not proper to disrespect top notch musicians at such a high profile event.
Mary eventually got herself together and continued her performance, and the well-heeled audience gave her a standing ovation, which was probably meant for the band.
Greg Phillinganes the legendary musical director of Mary C Blige’s band said later that the diva was right to halt the music and diss the musicians.
He explained that his ear piece wasn’t inserted properly and he hadn’t heard what the singer had said. Although I’m not sure what that has to do with Mary’s bad manners.

I think your reaching on this one. Mary has always been a no-nonsense type of woman. Kicking her drug and alcohol habit didn’t change that about her.
They are going to start taking some Negroes off the white A-List.

Bingo, you can try to act classy all you want but true colors will always remain. And look at the audience list, Joan Collins is a bit*ch in real life and tv, Barbara Streisand, give me a break she is no saint and Jane Fonda loves to give them hell, these are all Diva’s and Usher the Divo.

It’s the norm for an artist to check their band…and the band already knows that the chin-check will come in front of whomever if they are not bringing the fire.
Artists rely heavily on the band to be a whole lot of things in order for their performance to be a success. Two of them are on time, and tuned up.
Mary was surely referencing her music when she said that, not herself, as in third person. I would have clowned a little too if I thought the band sounded so bad that folks would think they were still rehearsing. That was not a jam session.
My favorite thing to say is “Chop Chop! Let’s get this together y’all!”. And the band plays on….

I am sure they have done worse things within their little circle of celebs/entertainers that we the public don’t get to see. They have to act perfect for us but I am sure they clown with each other.
Greg Phillanges is awesome. MJ used him for his OFF THE WALL, THRILLER and BAD albums including the BAD, DANGEROUS and HISTORY tours. I love him!
