Trey Song Covers Jet Magazine’s 1st Redesigned Cover
JET magazine has revamped its cover with an entirely new logo to go along with the times and to draw a new, younger readership to the mag.
So the editors decided to put R&B singer Trey Song (with his trademark pursed lips) on the first cover in an attempt to attract new readers. But was this a good idea? We all know the majority of Trey’s fans are broke and jobless or his album would have gone gold by now, right? Didn’t he drop his album last Summer?
Anyway, according to the SunTimes website, “The inaugural Feb. 15 issue, on newsstands Feb. 8, is described as “the most sweeping evolution of its iconic brand [JET] in the company’s history.”
“Given the evolving landscape for the media, we thought now is a good time to re-establish our standing in the industry,” Mira Lowe, JET’s editor in chief, said Tuesday. “We want to maintain our leadership position in the marketplace. . . . We’re looking to appeal to a broader audience, including younger readers as well as our core readers.”
Johnson Publishing, which owns JET and EBONY mags hasn’t responded to published reports that they are seeking a new buyer for the historically black publications. Newsweek magazine wrote an article detailing EBONY’s declining readership and loss in ad revenues that is now going to online media.

Jet magazine here’s an idea, come online & get ad revenue that way, nobody is waiting a month to read ur chit.
Ebony is a victim of their refusal to keep up with today’s trends. They think its still the 50’s & people can’t wait to get that magazine in the mail. They pushed themselves out of the market & if Time hadn’t bought Essence, it was going down the same path too. Innovation & staying ahead of trends is the only way to stay afloat in any businesss, people won’t conform to you, u better mold to the people.
And to pick Trey ‘Twan Songs as your cover for a rebranding/relaunch effort just shows how much help they actually need. He’s not moving any covers, its now they should pick someone like a LisaRaye who seems to have a juicy story & is in a process of rebirth herself, but u know what Ebony/Jet isn’t paying me for these strategy ideas I’m giving em & Sallie Mae still owns one ovary of mine…

I think the majority of his listeners are younger, I bought the CD for my daughter, she would have not purchased it with her own money.
Trey has stronger material this time around, he’ll probably sell more LP as he continues to drop singles….HIS ALBUM IS PRETTY STRONG actually #justsaying

i agree. i haven’t bought a cd in years. that’s what amazon mp3 are for.
and i don’t understand why they didn’t pick someone influential for their relaunch cover? this is like vibe going out with a “bang” having dream/milian on the cover.
the redesign doesn’t look any better than the original. my mom kept her jets from the 70s all the way up into the mid-eighties. they were fascinating to read because they had so much black history in them. now, a lot of that stuff and people are no longer recognized or appreciated.
I STILL buy CDs. It’s just something about going to a Best Buy and sorting thru disc after disc until you find something worth buying. And unwrapping it to get the book jacket so I can read the credits…….FREAKING AWESOME!!
