Judge Calls Keyshia Cole ‘Illiterate’
A New Jersey judge is not a fan of Keyshia Cole’s music. According to TMZ, the judge lashed out at Keyshia in open court yesterday. Keyshia was being sued by a promoter for skipping out on a concert in 2006 after he paid her $15,000 up front.
The judge questioned the singer’s intelligence, saying Keyshia was “confused and at times nonsensical.”
The judge was peeved because Keyshia was reluctant to read documents that proved she was booked to do the show. “It appears at times that she was not literate,” the judge wrote.
Eventually, Keyshia managed to read documents that she thought helped her case, which made the judge even more salty. Keyshia lost the case and was ordered to fork over nearly $160k in damages. Ouch. That was one time when Keyshia’s celebrity status did not help her case.
Keyshia lives in Cleveland, Ohio with Cavaliers star Daniel “Boobie” Gibson. She recently gave birth to the couple’s first child, a boy.

This was ridiculous and unnecessary..Keyshia should not have even exposed herself to this..she should have just had a lawyer handle it and settle out of court before even going to a hearing; sounds like she was in there trying to do the case herself…and if she was cherry picking which documents to read and trying to avoid reading the key ones that showed she was guilty, that would piss a judge off…in summary, this is just stupid! Keyshia you should have given those people their money like you knew you owed it and been at home with your son instead of in some random court making a fool of yourself! Do better please

Her teeth were straight, she just had a gap. I have a small gap too, but my teeth (per my dentist) are perfectly aligned and sized. Wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Hello All. Keisha ain’t the only one that’s half illiterate. Many, many Americans, black and white but mostly black, do not have a good command of the English language. Take one of my nephews, a wonderful, loving young man who finished high school in the 90s but could hardly read. At his graduation celebration, my son had to help him read his cards, so sad! I have a girlfriend at work who has to pass her emails to me to check for errors and editing before she sends them division wide. When a black person goes for an interview, most likely they will be interviewed by a white person, not all the time but likely unless of course its an all-black business. First of all, how they dress is utmost important and second, when they open their mouths to speak. If you have a crisp, Oprah-like voice, and know what they speak on, they think “Hey, they’re one of us” and lo and behold, most get the job. It’s so important how we are perceived by the white establishment especially when applying for a good-paying job. (And so many of our young folks don’t want “to sound white”) I’ve always wanted to sound like Oprah but childddddddd, it’s so hard to get rid of a southern accent unless you fake it and folks, I don’t blow smoke. Welp, I not really surprised that she cant read all that well but I dont think she’s illiterate. Maybe she is. Her folks are hood as hell and so is she but Keisha has made tremendous effort to do better and I commend her for that. She could be looking just as crackish as Neffe and Frankie. She a beautiful lady and I think she will be around for a long time.
Also, some people like to criticize her for bringing her family into the lime light and I’m sure even sometimes she regrets it but I believe in the long run, the positives outweigh the negatives. Now she doesnt have to worry about them finacially. They were going to act a fool regardless. Now they can at least get paid for it and not depend on her.

That judge was on her high horse. I can’t stand when people abuse their power. How is calling someone stupid (ala Judge Judy) and illiterate proper procedures for a judge who is supposed to be unbiased?
Keyshia is just fine being who she is. As someone else said, she should have shown up with a lawyer instead of trying to read through papers in court like that.
